As a 62-year-old woman just now learning about all these incredible things that are so important to my health and to my four daughters and my seven granddaughters and even my grandsons and my husband and my sons. This information would’ve changed my life as a child, if my mother had been treated like a woman with a hormone imbalance instead of a crazy person. I am furious, heartbroken and raged at our patriarchal society that treated women like crazy and unimportant. I am so grateful grateful grateful that people are learning this now and teaching us all. I’m sharing this with my daughters and telling them to share with their friends, and we will change the world with this knowledge.

I feel every word you say! I too could have had a way better life and far more confidence--it was a simple hormone imbalance all along that could have been tweaked!

You have no idea, Dr Gersh, how valuable that knowledge is. This Perimenopause/peripheral nervous system axis is exactly whats going on. I am very metabolically healthy - so it always puzzled me, why they say you get severe hot flashes because u r metabolically unwell, so why do I get severe ones too? It might as well be true for some but not in my case. In my case, I had unbalanced parasympathetic system long before, and I’ve learned about it first time while wearing health monitor and puzzled by very low HRV, also my pulse it usually somewhat higher than normal and there other signs as well. And of course, it gets disregulated even more during perimenopause. All the puzzle pieces are falling into the place now, thank you for doing what you do 😊🙏

Lately, I've had to remember breathing. That's scary, you realise you simply don't breathe in, unless you pay attention. This happened while I was on classic HRT. When I added testosterone at the lowest level recommended by the British NHS, the symptoms went down 95 % in a few days.

Is this why grief, trauma and stress can cause premature ovarian failure-because all those things can traumatize the vagal nerve?

Dr. Gersh, Appreciate all of your information, including this info on the vagus nerve. Your HRT protocol is also wonderful, except for one thing: the lack of info on how to prevent the conversion of estrogen into androgens-a common phenomenon in post menopausal women! Uggh. How can we have both a healthy body and brain, courtesy of adequate level of estradiol and …hair?

I don’t know what Dr. Gersch recommends but while on hrt my wellness doc prescribed spironolactone to help regulate it. Ask your doctor.

How might the autonomic system be influenced by estradiol like in low dose patch where it causes heart palpitations with premature ventricular contractions when coming from undetectable estradiol levels? I want to utilize estradiol to help with hot flashes but could not tolerate even the lowest patch dose. I was also taking 200mg prometrium and using low dose testosterone cream. Is it the continuous dosing of patch that is overwhelming system? Had no issues with compounded estriol/estradiol cream but it wasn’t raising my levels enough. Just curious what info you could share regarding heart palpitations with estradiol. Will it improve with time or is that a red flag to stop. I stopped and in 3 days the PVCs went away.
