I have a 1989 Honda Shadow 1100 I’ve had it for 13 years. Most reliable bike I’ve ever owned. One day me and the Miss’s stopped by the local Harley dealer to look around. Two hours later... finished the paperwork on a 2011 Ultra Glide Limited. Love this bike. Unbelievable on the highway, easy to ride in the city, smooth as silk. Kept the Shadow though, still ride it.

I owned a 1986 Shadow 1100 for 24 years. It was still near perfect when I sold it. I've ridden a 2008 VTX1300C since 2013. When the kids are out of the picture I will get serious about a HD Ultraglide. I've always been leary about the typical rumors but you only live once. My sister has a low rider but we don't talk bikes much.

Sportsters Forever!!! Welcome to Sportsterville, young lady! My first was a '56 KH. My last is a '93 I bought new. Still got it 'cause it does everything I want a bike to do and it's been dead reliable. It's only got 111k on it and it'll cruise at 80 on the interstate. It's the beat bike Harley makes IF you know what to leave stock and what you can modify.

I didn't own a car in 1979, just a bike. Owned several bikes since, some salvage. In 2019 I traded a 2005 klr650 sold, to buy a 2004 Harley. The klr rattled me, hurt my physical issues at a older age. A road bike, I can ride for hours. I bought a 2004 FXSTD soft tail duce. It's a cruze bike. It had 5,000 miles, a garage queen, then I got it. Babied bike, my new freedom.

I love my 2018 48. I modded it a bit, but I love it! I have 7.5 inch Biltwell frisco bars, led headlight, black headlight trim ring, led brake master cylinder fuel gauge (super clean!), Diamond HD black Fuel cap, screamin eagle plugs and wires, vance and hines short shots, s&s teardrop intake, vance and hines fuelpak 3, smoked lenses front and rear, side mount led license plate, smoked led tail light with license plate light deleted since I have a side mount plate now, black trim ring for the rear tail light, HD medallion that covers the fender holes for the old license plate mount, black led oil temp/level gauge with black bezel surround, 4inch led tach/speedo with all kinds of cool features, swing arm saddlebag with a 1.5 litre fuel bottle, black HD derby cover and black chain inspection cover. I am in the process of ordering parts to do the 1250cc big bore kit with cams, push rods, tappets, pistons and jugs with all kinds of performance goodies. It is a super fun bike and gets lots of compliments but you absolutely made the right choice if you are looking for something to travel long distance with saddlebags and whatnot. I can travel because I have the 7.1 litre small tank with a fuel gauge and 1.5 litre fuel bottle but most 48 owners only have the 7.1 litre tank and that's it. Sportsters are super fun bikes especially if the engines are opened up with a stage 1, but the aftermarket is never ending for them! I'll either be picking up an Indian FTR1200 or new Fatbob 114....or both🙊

I owned two Sporty's since the 80's, but in 2004, I bought the same Dyna FXD that you're riding. I absolutely loved that bike. It was my daily driver, and I even rode it from SoCal to Sturgis. Comfortable, powerful and good looking. Ran like a top. I sold it for health reasons a few years ago and have been kicking myself since. I sure hope HD comes out with a new line of cruisers to replace the Dyna's because they were great bikes.

I used to ride sportbikes and had fun on them. I rode a Sportster and got hooked. I love the look and feel of Sportsters. They're the most 'Harley' bikes available today. They're simple and fun and affordable. The evo engines are very reliable and they have the sound and shake like a Harley should. I might get a dyna one day if one speaks to me, but it'd probably have an evo engine.

Just an observation, i went from a 1972 Triumph to a 2008 Ultra fully expecting the Ultra to be like driving a truck compared to the Triumph. It wasn't, it was just as nimble and agile on the road as the Triumph. I guess what I'm saying is don't be intimidated by a touring bike, they just don't feel that big on the road. Just don't try and lean them at low speed, they fall over, but you can pick them up by yourself. Please don't ask how I know. I've only seen a couple of your videos but so far I'm liking them. Keep the good stuff coming.

I'm 43. For some reason I decided I wanted to start riding motorcycles and in Alabama all you need for the endorsement is to pass the written test. So I took the test shortly after my birthday in 2018. I sat on that for a while before decided that I wasn't going to just buy a bike without going through some training so I signed up for the riding/safety course that Harley Davidson of Pensacola, FL provides. I did that in the middle of February in 2019. Three days after passing the course I bought a HD Street 750. It was a great bike for me in the beginning since I was still learning but it wasn't great for the interstate. In November 2019, I traded the 750 in for a HD Iron 1200. I love this bike! I'm not leaning forward too much and it's easy to handle and great for the interstate. I honestly don't see how anyone can be comfortable on an actual sports bike. My back would never forgive me if I got one.

The 2020 Low Rider S...Awesome bike !...it is fast at take-off and at acceleration speed on the hwy, a lot of torque and power and doesn't feel top-heavy into curves and cornering with the 180 rear tire that it has. Besides that,it is Really fun to ride weather you are out on the country roads or cursing down the hwy. I too, love Harley's! I ride a 2007 Sportster 1200C Custom, it has the forward controls like the 48 you mentioned. I know a lot of people consider a Sportster either a chick bike or a starter bike, but I don't I have been riding Sportster for decades and have never felt a need to upgrade to something else. I have it converted it to a semi-cruiser, as it has a much softer seat (still two up), throw over HD leather saddlebags, different (louder) Vance & Hines pipes and a windshield. I also got rid of that wire spoke front wheel (I hate wire spoke wheels and they rust like crazy). Put on a really loud air horn and got rid of that 5 3/4" headlight and go a 7" housing and upgraded to a Trucklight brand LED light, I didn't like the one like you have ever since my oldest son put one on his Sportster. It seem that when you are going on really curvy roads with on lights but your own, each time you turn the bar of light is either shinning on the ground right next to you or out into space on the other side. Can't see the side of the road on the side that centrifugal us trying to push you towards (not really good on high mountain roads). Also installed a flasher on my brake LED light so they flash fairly fast for 5 times before they go solid (5 flashes is the most you are lawfully allowed to do in California). Also added a few more red LED light to the rear too. You have to make sure they can hear and see you, as static lights and soft horns don't get their attention around here.

I'm here from the Magpies'. Nice video. I'm more a fan of Japanese naked bikes (I use it to commute to work everyday), so I'm kind of shocked that you chose a big fat Harley! Subscribed. I look forward to your riding exploits.

J Gb thank you for visiting! My Harley is one of the smaller big fat bikes! 😂

Cool video. I've had 3 Honda's and 2 Harley's. The Honda's were great bikes. Can't complain except they had more plastic than I like and didn't put as much effort into paint and chrome. That said, I didn't have problems with my 02 Ultra but I sold it because I didn't have time to ride for a few years. My current Harley is an old school 91 Electra Glide Sport. It's had some things done to the motor for LOT more power and totally reliable. I wouldn't hesitate to ride cross the states on it. And it's got a thunderheader exhaust on it so it sounds good. Cool to see you enjoying yours so much. I would say this however. If you seriously want to pound out miles, nest time go ahead and try out a Road King or a Standard. They aren't as much to handle as you might think and they are very comfortable in the long haul.

I just got a Kawasaki Ninja 650. Its definitely not a great long distance bike, my butt and wrists start to hurt after about 30 minutes so I have to take breaks often. I LOVE the bike, its just more of a Sprint than a Marathon with it. I never liked the look of Harley's I've always loved Sport Bikes, but now comfort is what I'm gonna be searching for on my next bike.

I've had metric bikes since 03. Now I ride HD Ultra Limited. What I've learned is you hafta stay on top of the maintenance and you really do hafta check and re-tighten quite a few bolts. Things I never had to do with the metrics or my Triumph.
@HerTwoWheels5 жыл бұрын
scotte42 yeah the bolts shaking loose are quite common and quite annoying. I’ve had friends who have lost whole kickstands and shifter pegs before

I love my shadow 600 it's a 1996 I didn't bob it out I put highway pegs on it and I like to lay back on the passenger seat I also put a 750 front end with a fat front tire then I put 750 carbs on it now I'm working on changing the air intake so it can get more air but it runs great I put e3 spark plugs in it today seemed to help alot still going to change the air intake because it wants to hesitate when you get to a higher speed which it only started doing that when I put my 750 carbs on it so that's why I assume it just needs more air I always wanna get mag rims but they are costly and the spokes looked decent I just hate having a tube

Great story and hats off to you for doing it the right way, unlike me who went through 3 sporties and a small mortgage before realizing I needed a bike that can do a bit of everything with a degree of comfort. I now ride a softail low Rider and love it. I suspect you may go the new softail direction too, particularly if you test ride one. Thanks
@HerTwoWheels5 жыл бұрын
I would love to go the new softail route, unfortunately it's not in the finances at the moment. one day! but for now, I'm truly loving my Super Glide =)

Not shitting on your choice, but the Harley comments just loving to complain about plastic on japanese bikes suck so hard. Every one of them has slightly retro bikes like the Yamaha xsr 900 that dont have fairings or plastic on em. And that most likely will be the better choice if you like curves fast. Harleys now also have plastic sometimes. +plastic is ok. Not even sure the Honda cb1300s fairing is plastic, but it is a noble looking high quality bike.
@scottstross58345 жыл бұрын
My wife had the exact opposite experience. Tried the Dyna, then tried the Scout. Once she rode the Indian it was all over. Just a better overall bike for the price.

Dynas a good choice for you. One of the lighter Harley’s that can tour. Probably better for your needs then the Indian Scout. And I own a tuned Scout , it’s amazing. Low rider s is stunning but...less suspension and whatnot, not a great choice to tour unless your gona toss more cash at it. I think a 2020 sport glide would be your speed. Tour when you want, remove the fairing and bags when you do short hops. If you go full bagger down the road there is always the Indian Springfield or HD Road Glide. Just know full bagger isn’t an upgrade to everyone, especially if you like nimble medium weight bikes like the dynas and softails.
@HerTwoWheels5 жыл бұрын
yeah I keep saying even If i get a bagger, im keeping the Dyna. I just love it!
