The Stelvio is definitely the best looking adventure bike out there, along with the Super Tenere.I wish they still made the Stelvio.

When riding gravel, drop the tire pressures to low to mid 20's psi. It will help tremendously. Get yourself a little $20 portable air compressor (about the size of a sandwich) to carry around so you can air back up on the asphalt. Those Pirelli's you now have are mostly street purpose. If you're going to be doing a decent amount of gravel, I would get some adventure tires with a little more off-road bias. Sexy bike. I'm considering one myself.

Being a Guzzi owner myself I congretz you with your Guzzi. Done a few km’s on a Stelvio the Stelvio is a very reliable allround bike. If you ever find the time, ride it on the Stelvio pass or one of the passes nearby Mandello del Lario Italië, home of the Guzzi. Beautiful area, a lot of camping places in the area.

Nice Review...I love my Stelvio and was in the same position as you...checked pretty much everything else out, couldn't justify the price of the BMW, no shaft on the Africa Twin and the super ten was the only serious competitor. I picked mine up in late August of 2017 and rode to Belize in November.....no problems at all - rock solid on the slab and surprisingly light in the marl, just a solid does it all with character bike. I am not sure why BMW's are so pricey here (Canada) in Europe the difference was only a thousand euro or so... cheers M

I put some Michelin Road 5 TRAIL on mine this year because the 10 000K I did on the Scorpions left to be desired. I LOVE them, sticky in curves and long lasting (so far). But at $620 for an installed pair... Not cheap. Not as good on gravel, but adequate. I love my Fat Italian! Planning a trip across Canada on it.
@DifferentSpokesTV

Yeah, these Italian bikes ain’t cheap. I’m learning everything I can about the maintenance so I can do it myself. I really need tires that are good off road because so many of my rides are on gravel. I love the bike but it definitely has issues. Video on electrical problems coming out tomorrow.

Bought mine for the same reasons. Well-built, adequately priced, super comfy, checks almost all boxes. Just installed Mitas E-07 Plus Dakar on my 2013 NTX. Rock solid. Of course, experience, skills and confidence go a long way. Experiment with tire pressure and ABS/ATC on/off settings for better off-road experience. Standing up on the pegs when going off road and over bumps and humps helps with stability and with the sphincter ;)

As an owner of an MG Griso, I'd love a Stelvio. Easy bikes to live with, and self maintain on your own. To my eyes, I love the dual headlights and overall feel of an MG over the BMW which my buddy has (R1200r). BM's lack a little excitement for me personally.

Try TKC-80s. That's what I use on my '09. They are great on bad gravel roads. These are the stock tires on the BMW Adventure. I even love them on the street.

I rode my '11 Stelvio up the Dempster to Inuvik and back (1400+km) in about 26 hours including waiting hours for a ferry...the big girl does just fine on gravel! Relax and let it move around. I made a stupid mistake and traded it for a Norge, which is a nice bike, but I will be going back to a Stelvio as soon as I can!

I’ve gotten better on the loose stuff since I made this video and feel much more confident on the gravel. Standing up helps too. Unfortunately Guzzi discontinued the Stelvio but they can still be found used. I hope they bring it back soon but until then we have the V85TT.

I’ve been riding for 50 years on many bikes for many miles, but never owned a Guzzi. Still own a sport touring bike and a trusty but not exciting V-Strom. But today, today I rode a 2013 Guzzi Steivio NTX. Let’s just say I found it has a lot of character; kind of got me looking for a place to attach a winch. I used to say these bikes appeared to be half NASA half Massey-Ferguson but really, I’m not sure about the NASA part anymore. Feels more Russian than Italian - okay, that’s just not fair. That said, nobody could say it isn’t interesting and different; wouldn’t see yourself coming and going on one of these. At the end of the day, I’m not sure what I admire more, the bike or the people that appreciate them.

I love riding a bike that almost no one else has and it's not because it's a shitty bike because they are pretty damn reliable. There engineering is unique. Somewhat more automotive like but pretty simple and basic for the most part. The tonti frame mean't that for a long time Moto Guzzi's were great handling bikes. I just love having Moto Guzzi on this planet so i can have my own favorite brand and it isn't the same brand 99% of people convince themselves to buy. The engineering, handling and the horsepower curve really make it a fun bike that's not too much of anything but just right in a lot of ways. I don't really need the power some bikes have and i am not buying into the lifestyle. I love motorcycles and Moto Guzzi is my Harley Davidson. I just ride old classics. I'm sure i'd like a Harley but it's just a lot of money. At least there are some cheap ones finally. When i was younger they just were a little too rare still but now? Something that has the power but makes it a little higher, is a little lighter and still a little less expensive. Because even if you can get bikes at a price you can stomach it's still going to cost what they cost to fix or upgrade.

@@ronaldwesterduin3719 Thanks Ron. Maybe not exclusively because i daily an 80 XS1100 Yamaha for the time being but that's only because my 76 Moto Guzzi 1000 i convert is being torn down (by me) to tidy up the wiring, brake pads all around, lower bars, charging issues, etc. Oh well, no bike is perfect but i know a Moto Guzzi can be a damn reliable bike that will travel a LOT of miles. I love their engineering and the simplicity and ease of maintaining it.

Even before buying a Stelvio, I have always thought, as good as they were, BMWs were overpriced. Again, glad to hear you, too, are enjoying your Stelvio! I bought my 2017 new and it was a real bargain to boot. No regrets! I don't know about their other models but Stelvio and V7 models are highly reliable yet underrated bikes, imho.

@@DifferentSpokesTV I tried the new 1250 GS and I really loved it, but found all the electronics, the 45 different maps, how it did rev matching up and down, it was all just really weird to me and felt very sterile. Plus the expense. Still had a huge smile on my face, but then I got back on my v7 and I was blown away at how fun the bike was and just how it felt so mechanical and raw and thrilling to ride again. Really want a Stelvio one day!

I know what you mean Tyler. Love the BMW but all of the R&D that goes into the technology is driving up the price of these bikes. They're becoming very expensive toys indeed. Love the v7! It's on my shortlist of bikes to ride and review. Can't wait to swing a leg over one.
