I've played for an hour and can already tell, this is the true neverwinter nights successor that I thought it might be. That combined with all the experience that the team has racked up working on divinity over the years, what we have here is a GotY nominee at the least. Especially if its opened for modding, which I haven't seen yet or not. If it IS, it becomes the de-facto digital DnD experience that all enthusiasts have been dreaming about since they were kids. If the modding community starts to flourish, it will be one of those evergreen games that gets played for decades and seeds its own ecosystem. It's also funny to me, cus a month or two ago, I was malding with some friends about it being $60 long johnson pre-release and promptly ghosted on for 3 years.

I have owned bg3 since a few weeks after EA released. Larian has kept us informed by releasing community updates and even live shows for big updates. They took their time in making this instead of releasing it premature just to cash in. One patch my game wouldn't launch, so I sent larian a message and figured they would fix it whenever their next patch released. To my surprise, within an hour, they messaged me with a fix, and I said that's cool. Then, 4 or 5 hours later, they patched the game and fixed the problem. I have never seen that and would never expect a developer to care that much. I am sold on larian, and as long as they stay the path I am with them.

Just to correct a small misunderstanding: Larian Studios did not create Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, that was Bioware (RIP). They were given the liscence to make it by Wizards, who own the IP. Larian is the studio behind the Divinity and Divinity: Original Sin games (which were also excellent)

most companies aren't trying to make good games though, they are trying to make good money. shitty repeat games with battlepasses sadly make more money than a good quality one time purchase game. The fact that they openly stated that they were curious how other modders would add certain gameplay elements from tabletop into the game (i.e. Defend action etc) shows that they actually care about their community and health of the game. In most other cases, community mods are perhaps the greatest thing modern gaming has left to fix most broken products that make it to the consumer. Larian earned their paycheck on this one, and its a standard the industry should strive for like it used to.

Be real. If this game wasn’t going to make money, it wouldn’t be made. It’s a game based on the well-known, popular D&D franchise. It is a very reasonable bet that it will make money. @@gdgy7569 unfortunately that doesnt work, especially not for fifa. As was loosely touched on in this video, Fifa is mainly played by casual gamers so they arent aware of the effect they have on the industry, nor do they care. Fifa has a monopoly of football licences and therefore no other game can really replicate it so all football fans that respect the sport will go for fifa, which in turn gives them huge profit and wont make ea want to change the formula. Fifa's damage to the gaming industry can really be traced back to the sport of football, as the only reason ea is in that position is due to being allowed the license. In any case, i personally believe in an ideal world we should do both, punish bad practices and reward good practices by devs.

Thank you for supporting this game despite your lack of interest in it generally, Asmon. I've personally been waiting for this game since BG2 (my fav game growing up) and its finally here. More than that, it has turned into something more than I was expecting. This could have been a disaster if EA-Bioware had made it, so let us rejoice that Larian studios has provided gamers a full game with no microtransactions. More than that, this game is feature rich compared to its competitors in the same genre. Gamers should be thankful for this and support it if possible.

I bought it with zero expectations, never really got into any of the previous games. I got it solely because the AAA developers were trying to vilify it for being a great game that actually cared about its community. And WOW, this game has me blown away and addicted so far and I can't wait to see what this studio continues to do. It's on track to becoming one of the all time greats. All these scummy developers need to realize is that they just have to care a little bit and put forth some effort. I'm getting sick of the "norm" in gaming. Keep going Larian!

Divinity Original Sin 2 is a really great game from the same studio as well, has an interesting story and the gameplay and character builds are familiar but also different in important ways. @@utisti4976 Hold on a second here, just because Larian doesn't have any /current/ plans to add microtransactions doesn't mean we should just ignore the fact that they had the balls to add a user data harvesting patch, only to got found out because some "nerd" read through the new terms of service (no mention about it in the patch notes by the way) then when the rumor became loud enough they quickly made a non-apology "we didn't know players DIDN'T want this" to paraphrase their response. Nothing about "we won't do this again" or "it was wrong of us" or anything in that line, just "we didn't know you didn't want this". That's not a company we should put on a pedistal. Then let's look at their adaption of the D&D ruleset they choice and the seemingly arbritrary way they adhere and change these rules.... (hint: attack of opportunity on an enemy with your melee hero) Then there's the issue with the characters and writing.... well.. yeah. This company may be better than Bioware/Activision/EA/Ubisoft, but they are miles below Fromsoft. Just because they're not complete garbage doesn't mean they're good, there's room for "mediocre", "ok", "meh", "nah", "not if I can avoid it" et.c. between Ubisoft Fromsoft. If you want to look at "best devs" you should look into Hello Games and the amount of sh*t they got (rightfully) for the mess they released and the colossal work they did to basically re-do the game over the years with free add-ons/expansions/whatever you want to call it. And they're STILL doing it - basically for free (besides the initial purchase of the game) today 5 years later. (granted it's not quite near the insane hype pre-launch, but it's going there slowly). Yes, there is an argument to be had here where Hello Games shouldn't have released the buggy mess in the first place and maybe just maybe they should have told a few less "convienient lies". Now compare that company to a company that knowingly and without telling adding a data harvesting tool to their early access game. And when they get found out with their hand in the cookie jar they say "oh, you didn't want it? We didn't know. Not sorry".

Thank you for making this video and actually going over why games like Baldur's Gate is a huge win for gamers. You pretty much summed up how I think a lot of people are feeling. An amazing, beautiful game with no micro bullshit from a company who cares deeply about its fandom and players. I have not been this excited to play a video game since I was maybe a teen when Skyrim came out or Red Dead Redemption. I am almost 30 now and it honestly brought so much emotion and nostalgia back into me playing the Baldur's Gate 3 demo and watching this game develop into what it is today. I am so so excited for this and mad respect to you Asmon for making a video like this and expressing your support to Larian and smaller gaming companies. As a community of gamers whether its casual or serious, we need to see more games like BG3 and support them. I hope you do give it a try at some point but so understandable why its not everyone's type of game. DnD players I think are majority audience because we play this style all the time and understand it to a t. For newcomers it can be confusing, shit I was hella lost first dnd campaign I did but once I understood, fun as hell. If solo isn't your thing, multiplayer is pretty fun too with friends lol.

@@Spamkromite don't get me wrong, a lot of people like that content, but if you pursue no romance in any way, it's still a fantastic game. The world is reactive, and the consequence of actions is insane. A few examples- A man is mourning his wife who just died in a fire. You can cast the spell speak with dead on her. If you do, he asks if you're a medium and requests that you ask her a question for him. Not angry that you touched her body ('stealing') and it's not ignored. The world responds. Another of my favorites, there's a child who's basically being threatened in a major scene early on. If you don't intervene, she can die. If that happens, and you go a certain route in act 1, the murderer and the parents are at a party together. You can catch them about to kill her to avenge their daughter and you have the opportunity to intervene if you wish. It's not just let go and inconsequential, the world responds.

I must say, I've always enjoy watching Asmongold as well, and I share your sentiment that his take on the gaming industry is commendable and deserves more attention. It's essential for more gamers and companies to recognize and promote his perspective. However, I do believe there's some validity in the saying "action speaks louder than words." While he advocates for games that do things right and set a positive example for the industry, his actions seem to contradict this message at times. For instance, there is this game he pays for and makes a promotional video for, but will never or rarely plays it. On the other hand, he spends considerable time, thousands of dollars, and countless hours live streaming and making multiple videos about pay-to-win games such as lost ark. This heavy focus on a pay-to-win game might inadvertently promote it to a much greater extent than his sporadic promotion of games that strive to do things right. As a content creator with a huge platform, it's entirely reasonable for him to choose which games he wants to play and promote. Nevertheless, it's also essential to consider the impact of his actions on the gaming community's overall health and development. By paying for a game and promoting it without playing it, it may lead some to question the sincerity of his advocacy. It's fair to raise the question of whether he can have it both ways or if his actions are driven by pleasing his viewers rather than genuinely contributing to positive change in the industry. The discrepancy between his words and actions regarding game promotion leaves room for scrutiny, and it becomes crucial to evaluate the consistency of his actions with his principles. This evaluation will determine the extent of the credit he deserves in promoting the healthy growth of the gaming industry. In the end, we should all appreciate his efforts in highlighting crucial issues in the gaming world. However, it's equally important to assess the balance between his words and actions and whether they contribute more to the good or the harm within the gaming landscape.

Great games stay in the public eye for GENERATIONS, which is why even casual players have at least heard of Baldurs gate. The average person knows what DnD is. I can't remember the last time I really got into a AAA game that wasn't an MMO. I've been hard in the indie scene for over 10 years. I remember being STUNNED by Cave Story and never looking back.

@@OverBidden Fair argument. But at least he is up front about playing those games and what not.
@OverBidden
@OverBidden Жыл бұрын
@@thecasualgamer2017 You made a valid point that Asmongold is upfront about playing those games, and this transparency should indeed be acknowledged and encouraged. However, it’s essential to consider a few other factors: -Financial Gain for Making this Video: This video has already generated ~650k views, which translates to potential earnings of $780 to $5200, based on the reasonable $120-$800 per 100k views calculation. While content creators naturally earn revenue from their videos, it’s worth considering the finial gain he receives along with promoting this game and his ideology. -Tax Write-Offs: As a content creator, it’s highly likely that Asmongold declares gaming expenses, including game purchases and in-game expenditures, as business expenses. The $60 price tag for this game, along with a significant portion of the thousands of dollars that he spent on pay-to-win games, could be used as tax write-offs. -Inconsistent Actions Guided by Pleasing the Narrative/Viewers: Some of Asmongold’s past actions that seem to contradict each other, raising questions about his true motivations. For instance, during Lost Ark’s exposure, he spent extensive time live streaming and creating content for the game, fully engaging, enjoying, embracing, and promoting its pay-to-win aspects. Later however, as most of the players interest waned due to the pay-to-win mechanics, he then suddenly made a 180-degree shift, even being viewed by some as a champion for criticizing the game’s greedy practice. This pattern raises questions about whether his actions are primarily guided by pleasing his viewers or following certain narratives, rather than being motivated by integrity or the betterment of the gaming industry. Asmongold is indeed an S tier entertainer and content creator, and that’s the reason that he has a huge and dedicated audience, including me. However, I humbly believe his consistent past actions do not necessarily warrant praise for his integrity or long-term contribution to the gaming industry. Rather, his actions often seem to align with satisfying narratives, content creation, and viewership, which may not necessarily reflect a genuine commitment to the industry's improvement and on many occasions even caused more harm than good. While it is important to acknowledge and encourage his recent alignment with integrity, it is equally, if not more important, to assess him as a whole based on his consistent past actions, rather than viewing him solely through a single action. This broader perspective allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of his integrity and impact on the gaming community and the industry at large.

More companies need to follow their example and give people a complete game and respect their time. Here's a game that will give you tons of infinite replayability - with all the what 17k endings they have said it has? 75-100 hours to complete - I know people might hate that - not me, give me long form entertainment please. You pay for it - you get tons of entertainment from it. No microtransactions to do anything. No pay to win. You would probably have a ton of fun with it in multiplayer.
