I recently met someone who I felt an instant physical attraction to, but I’m at a point in my life where I need that emotional bond before I hop into bed with someone so I told him this, and he told me he wasn’t ready to be in a relationship because he was recently out of a five year relationship :/ it was rough and I probably could’ve still slept with him after that, but I knew I wanted (and deserved) more. Our relationship never took off and I’m still coming to grips with that, but I did what was best for me instead of succumbing to another person’s set of ideals and I’m proud of myself for that.

I’m one of those people too. I just don’t do casual hookups. Not that that’s bad or anything, it’s just not how I do things. I prefer physical intimacy as a way to manifest existing emotional intimacy and to further it, because emotional intimacy (trust, respect, teamwork/problem solving skills, etc) is the thing that helps long lasting relationships thrive, and I tend to look more forward to the future. Again, this doesn’t mean that casual hookups are bad for other people, everyone has different preferences, it’s fine so long as people are being safe and it’s consensual, etc.

I’ve had 1 “hookup” in my life and I’m actually glad I had it since it confirmed everything I suspected about casual sex. The sex itself isn’t very good. Even if the guy’s attractive and the sexual chemistry’s hot. A lot of men overrate their capabilities. There’s little motivation to genuinely want to pleasure each other or connect emotionally since you’re basically using each other as a living masturbatory aid. The “heat” is more from anticipation and perhaps the excitement related to risk. You’re NEVER going to be sorry you DID NOT have sex with someone you barely know or don’t know at all or aren’t interested in as a relationship partner. It’s not a life changing event and if it is it’s usually for the worse (risk of disease, unplanned pregnancy, possible abuse or murder if the man’s a deviant). Casual sex is the equivalent of wading knee deep in a warm, luxurious jacuzzi.

I don’t think she’s saying that casual sex requires more maturity than a committed relationship; you’re definitely right that a relationship requires sacrifice, commitment, and lots of hard work. But even if relationships require MORE maturity than one night stands, they both require some amount of maturity. It sounds like Anna has a lot more experience and knowledge in the world of romantic relationships, and therefore has the right kind of maturity to live in a healthy relationship. I can do one night stands and casual sex and friends with benefits just fine. But only last time things got messed up between me and this guy I'd been friends for years with... Very few people are consciously engaged enough with their heart, mind and emotions to know whether they really genuinely just want sex and no connection (I don't get these people and I would never consider a partner that thought like that). People who DO have one-night stands DO need to be honest and upfront about what they can't be to someone and make the encounter about the other person, not just them. AuroraS 92 sorry to say that, but that is just wrong. They show pretty openly what is going on in their minds and what emotions they have. You just don't know how to read them. A very important indicator are their ears, for example they show interest, being relaxed, stressed or angry. All that is shown just by the movement of their ears. The eyes tell you also much. Cats only watch in each other's eyes in a case of conflict. So if a cat is doing that to you, you most likely did something wrong and you should brace yourself for an upcoming attack. But they also smile with their eyes, if they blink slowly and for a long time they actually smile. It looks like they might be sleepy, but it means they are ok with you and accept you. There is many more to know. Cat communication is purely body language, the meow they use is a little compromise they adopted for humans, because we use so many sounds in our communication.
