Why I cancelled My Volvo EX90 Order!

So a month ago you cancelled a Porsche Macan order and now you cancel an EX90 order. How much cars do you have on order at any given time ?

Since I started this channel back in 2016 I have owned 7 cars, so on average I have changed cars once a year. Considering I ordered the EX90 almost two years ago, and the Macan Turbo earlier this year with delivery next year those cars fit perfectly into the trend. But now with them cancelled, I have no plans on ordering anything new yet. Still love my Tacan CT!

You should be aware of what you order and if that fits you, as well what is the budget, what is coming next on market etc etc…. I think these type of videos (repeated) they don’t bring you any positive feedback in the work you do in general- is like you don’t know what you want, what is good for you. A reviewer that is not even able to take decision after having seen so many alternatives. A bit childish Kris….

As I explained in the video there are many reasons for cancelling this order, and none of them are childish. How do you even come to a conclusion like that after watching the video? Is the fact that the interior has disappointing quality compared to the two XC90 I have owned childish? Is the fact that infotainment and ergonomic experience in the new Volvo design and layout bad and terrible in many way childish? I mean come on dude? What is exactly childish? The fact the car will launch without many features due to the SW not being finished when the first cars are delivered? Or is it childish on my part that the car is almost 20% more expensive now from when I ordered it? In the past two years I have ordered two cars that I have cancelled because I haven't gotten to drive them before taking delivery. The Macan interior disappointed me when the first test drives came out, and it was an obvious downgrade compared to the interior in the Taycan I currently own. Nobody knew this at launch or when I ordered it. As a rational human being I tend to change my point of view and my mind based on new information. "is like you don’t know what you want" I ordered these car early to secure early delivery of cars I thought I wanted, and when the first videos came out and the cars didn't seem as good as they initially seemed I cancelled them. So nobody knew how these cars would actually turn out, not me, not you, not the best car journalist or even the people working on them.

Kris, while I love your channel, and really appreciate the work that you put up with it, these kind of videos where you "order" something and then you cancel your "order", doesn't bring anything but a lack of trust in the way you review your cars. It is clear from the last few videos, where you cancelled your orders, that you follow the same pattern of unaffordability. I understand that. The cars are indeed getting more and more expensive. But that was the case when you ordered them. EX90 was designed to be an expensive and unaffordable car. Macan was in the same boat. So instead of putting out clips of you creating orders that can be seen from the moon you'll not afford, how about stop making out those clips, have a break, watch a movie with your family. Because that's the definition of click-baiting. I hate click-baiting, just as many around here. And it makes your channel untrustworthy, when you're bragging about ordering, only to quit after a while. How about presenting a car that you actually take delivery of and not generate so much fake drama?

sorry dude, but I think you are the one being dramatic and that really makes me sad. I have made almost 1000 videos testing cars and two videos in the past two years cancelling two out of eight I have taken delivery of. So you think me taking delivery of eight cars ordered, and then making almost a thousand videos and then cancelling two makes me untrustworthy? Two? Are you being serious? Wow! Both cancelled cars follow the same pattern, I ordered them early to get an early car. When the first videos dropped on the cars they both turned out to be less luxurious and exciting than at the initial launch. The Macan turned out to be an obvious downgrade in the interior compared to my Taycan. Again something that wasn't apparent or clear when I ordered it, and once I learned this I changed my mind. Do you think people changing their mind based on new information makes them untrustworthy? Because I don't, I would rather surround myself with people have that ability, I think it is a very good trait to possess. The EX90 has shown to have a much worse interior that the XC90 once I actually got to see one, again something I didn't know at launch. I have also said for years, once the electric XC90 is launched I'll be first in line to order one, which I was. After I have gotten to drive the Polestar 3, Polestar 4 and EX30 I have gotten to experience the new Volvo/Polestar ergonomics and infotainment system, and I am not impressed. Another thing this has made me change my mind. I explain all of this in the video. I think it actually proves the opposite. I initially ordered these cars thinking (based on my past experience with the brand) these cars would turn out a certain way. And then when I saw the first videos of these cars and they turned out different and worse than I thought, I changed my mind. I am actually acting on my own experience and advice. Would you rather me makes several videos complaining about the EX30 infotainment or the Polestar 3s ergonomics, but then ignore all that and still go through with my EX90 order? Do you think that makes me trustworthy? If so, you may want to look up the definition of trustworthy. It would be like your parents telling you not to drink and smoke and while drinking and smoking. "EX90 was designed to be an expensive and unaffordable car. Macan was in the same boat." Do you have a hard time understanding parts of the video? Because I explain this clearly. In the two years since I ordered the car it has gotten 20% more expensive, interested rates have basically doubled and used ev prices have dropped off a cliff. I may have a higher budget than many, but I don't have unlimited money. And if you claim to have known all of this two years ago, why are you wasting your time commenting on ad KZbin video? You should clearly working as the best financial analyst in the world making billions.

I’m holding on to my EX90 order with expected delivery january 2025. I do understand your reasons for cancelling, but it sounds like you order many cars and cancel if you do not ‘feel them’ when you get close to your delivery day.

Seriously? A $3500 increase on a $90000 car? I buy that waiting two years and seeing a lot of other cars come on the market could help Kris change his mind. Another factor is changes to the EV tax forgiveness scheme in Norway. Nothing wrong with a Taycan CT, though new tires won’t be cheap!

I still have an order for a EX90, which have now been delayed until januar 2025. I also have an order for a Polestar 3, which have delivery late september 2024. I'm pretty sure I'll get the P3 and cancel the EX90. Reasons are delivery date, cost (interest), and the fact that many of the systems won't be fully functioning until mid 2025. Like you, I'd rather wait a year or two before buying a EX90, or maybe a EX60...!?

If EX90 was avalable 2 years ago, it is recommended. But now, I think it use old technologies with very expensive price. Normally, after 2 years, the EV price should drop for 50% due to the technological advances.

I'd just have ordered EX90 ASAP and then wait for being able to test it and then decide to keep or cancel the order based on the test drive. Unfortunately that doesn't work so easy in Switzerland ...

I think the fact is that if you want to be early to the party you have to order a car without testdriving it. That beeing said i still think that you whould have been able to test drive it before yours would have been delivered. I dont think anyone in Norway will get their car this year, and if they do it will be late.

I think Volvo have priced it very wrongly. I have an XC90 but would never consider migrating to the EX90, at least not to a new one as the prices are crazy. A Kia EV9 makes far more sense if I was to switch. Hopefully the significant depreciation will make for such cars to be far more affordable in future. The EX90 doesn’t even come with all the features it would supposed to at launch.

I canceled mine as well. Made the order Nov2022 but with all that's out there -> missing features and crazy price loss of used EV's, why would I pay premium now for two years old car.. Made no sense for me. Thank you for the video and sharing your opinion.

I've chosen my car without a test-drive. In 2021 you loved the polestar 2 so much and I ordered the PS2 2022 LRSM. And till now I still love the car every day except for some minor things. It even saved my life twice in an unbelievable way. The last time I had to do an emergency break and lane shift in the rain, at 120 km an hour because a slow car (I estimate 70km/h shifted in my lane. I stupidly tried to avoid the car and, in the rain, made a huge avoid move. Instead of losing the grip on the wet highway, the car immediately stabilized the car between the 2 lines as if nothing happened.... I was stunned..... So... I love my no test-drive car mainly because you do a lot better test-drive than that I ever do.

That's the same thing, when you order a car the dealer then requests a reservation on the production line. Before they actually start the production line the automakers would call these preorders. But they work the same way as normal orders, first come, first serve.

I think that Volvo/Polestar are going to go out of business unless they stop emulating Tesla and try following Porsche (or Honda, even) more in their cockpits. The masses do NOT want cockpits that look like they were designed by 7-year-old, with tacky-looking iPads glued to dashboards and a lack of useful/safe physical switches/dials. (But then there are the crazy Chinese who maybe prefer Tesla-like cockpits, and Geely does own a majority of Volvo and Polestar, sadly. So all bets are off; maybe the chinese are too stupid to understand all this.) These EX90 types of cars will depreciate wildly and be rather worthless in 5-7 years. I'd like to see a BEV with minimal touchscreen capabilities (touch changes should not be possible in any touchscreen while a car is in motion, so all required actions while a car is in motion should be put back into physical buttons/dials). Citing expense for physical buttons/dials as a reason for not including them (as some people constantly suggeest) is absurd for a luxury-car maker when the cheapest new cars still have physical buttons/dials. (And one thing I'd also like to see go in the reverse direction is voice controls -- which are very limited in ability and are often more frustrating than fiddling with sub-menus with tiny icons in a touchscreen while the car is bouncing over our typical bad roads.)

Polestar has way better handling and chassis than Tesla. An electric towbar is also nice. The design is also more interesting than the soap-like Tesla. I do like big tablets. Voice control works very well with Google in Polestar. I rarely use menus. I just push the talk button on the wheel, say where I want to go and it work very well.
