Gyasi. I've talked to you once and I need help again. I've only taken 2 programming courses in my college which is C++ and Matlab. I want to become a software engineer but my curriculum does not offer any more classes than that considering that they do not have software engineer but they do have computer engineering. I'm at my junior year going into my 6th semester and still clueless of how will I get to software engineering if there's no other programming courses that will help me excel. Is there any other areas in where I can learn more programming specifically for software engineering and a place where I can show a folder of all my coding. I stress everyday about engineering because I feel that I'm not good enough and I love doing photography and filming as a hobby and you doing you KZbin and engineering inspires me to be like you or to get to where you are at. Thank you for reading.

5:40 "I haven't used any math in my internships or any math full time". As someone who's been doing software engineering for around a decade, I can tell you that the ability to use math (particularly discrete math) sneaks up on you, and occasionally makes your life easier. You'll find little optimizations that you might not otherwise have thought of, and sometimes that's enough to get you a bit of an edge against other programmers.

Regarding math and computer science, because this comes up a lot. Computer science is a sub field of mathematical logic, which is itself a sub field of mathematics. Most early computer scientist have very strong roots in mathematics, particularly Alan Turing, which was a famed logician. Because mathematics is foundational to computer science, it's most often isnt ignored. There has been a push to dumb down the curriculum. So I don't know what they teach students anymore. With that said, I don't see how they teach complexity theory without getting into some math. But again colleges have become paper mills, so anything that ups their graduation rate is important

Nobody talks about "Computer Engineers" only "Software Engineers", Why? Or is it because the field is not as Lucrative?
@josemhs12135 жыл бұрын
I think computer engineers were more for the time of early Apple such as Steve Wozniak. I think some of the new CE stuff would be quantum computers but don't take that for fact I ain't a god lol.
@MrBranh09135 жыл бұрын
Because it's harder to teach Computer Engineering at scammy bootcamps. It's easier to emphasize software development, or really just web development for beginners. CE takes mathematics, physics, and a core understanding of computer internals. Most CE typically come from an EE background which us a notoriously difficult major to clear.
@mindhunter87725 жыл бұрын
@@MrBranh0913 wow you have a point, but I thought mechanical Engineering is a harder major compared to Electrical engineering
@MrBranh09135 жыл бұрын
@@mindhunter8772 I dont know much about mechanical engineering. But without question EE is considered one of the harder if not hardest major in most schools. Since you need a good understanding of physics and you need to get into higher mathematics with differential equations. That alone will discourage most students. These lifestyle blogs are mostly about demonstrating how anyone could be a programmer. Which is not true. Anyone can make a shitty web app in react. But not everyone can write robust software that doesnt break.

4:10 I'm an aerospace engineering major, thinking about switching to software engineering before It's too late (before I start actual engineering core classes), and I've already taken calc 3 and I think my school only requires up to calc 2 and then a choice of any upper level math for software engineering. But I think deep learning math is cool. I don't like repeatedly setting up and solving integrals just for the practice though.

@johnwig2855 жыл бұрын
@maliboo I suggest u start with learning the Certified Ethical Hacker syllabus and then progress to Comptia Security+ followed by other related essential certifications. U dont have to take the tests now but study the topics invovled. The cyber security field requires u to take these certs and they will hire ppl with those certs over someone with a degree without those certs. Degree is a plus.

Your side projects could score you a job easily. It's all about understanding and willing to learn. I've seen plenty of jobs hire before you graduate. How do you even go about getting an internship I've applied to so many over the course of like 3 semesters and have had so many interviews but all I keep getting is rejections and I feel like I'm running out of time :/ The job market for tech honestly sucks it's so competitive it feels impenetrable! The only people who I see getting in are people who already have connections inside the companies that can get them in. They also usually ask for previous internship experience which is ridiculous considering that internships are supposed to be your first experience!! I've worked on so many personal projects and even posted them to the Play Store but recruiters seem to unimpressed unless you already had an internship at Google or Facebook (which are virtually impossible unless you get extremely lucky). Sorry I'm ranting but it just feels like I'm never gonna get there at this pace, I was very disappointed by what I expected the opportunities in tech to be before I came to college vs. what is actually attainable to those that don't have close connections already inside the tech companies.
@bernardo67156 жыл бұрын
@Anthony Renfro I'm still in college. I've been trying non-stop for 3 semesters, so much so that I've even neglected school work at times because of it because I'm so desperate for one. I've had tens of on-campus and phone interviews and have gotten flown out to on-sites twice already, but still no offer :/
@bernardo67156 жыл бұрын
@Anthony Renfro Yup! I've had meetings with career advisors, mentors, done mock-ups, everything. The job supply in tech has gotten oversaturated I guess.
@bernardo67156 жыл бұрын
@Anthony Renfro I keep trying to not lose morale but it's nerve-wrecking because I'm going to graduate a year early so if I can't secure an internship this summer I'll be basically graduating without any experience, which would make landing a job so much harder!
