Yes - I met an OD who was skeptical of a minus lens as a solution, when you could still read the 20/40 line. Self measured -0.75 Diopters. As a result, he insisted that HIS THREE CHILDREN wear a preventive plus len, for all close work. He knew they were safe, when worn that way. He was a great mentor. The result - they kept their distant vision clear for life. I know the few ODs are willing to help their own children that way ... But that is the difference between a scientific understanding of the eyes behavior, versus fixing a person in an office with a minus lens.

Yes, I would like to make my vision better, from 20/40 to 20/20. Refractive change from -0.75 D to +0.5 Diopters. That would be an excellent goal for any optometry student.

4 years pre -med B.S.must have 3.5 GPA or better. 4 Years, optometry, little to no summer time off. $ 200,000 in debt by graduation. First paycheck at age 26-27years of age. There is no shortage of optometrists. There is competition with cut rate eyeglass warehouses. Most ODs are self employed, so no: paid vacations, holidays, sick days, retirement plans. If you are smart enough to get into optometry school, you can figure out it is not worth the expense and ago
