@snakecharmer2011 LMFAO. 1 million mile trucks don't mean anything. They say nothing about the brand. Chevy, Ford and Ram all have trucks in the million mile club. It just doesn't mean anything. If you're buying a Tundra because "they will last a million miles!" you'll be disappointed. Both those trucks were 07 models and they put 125,000 miles per year on them. Toyota sold almost 200,000 Tundras in 07. Your chances of driving a million mile Tundra are 0.001%. Your odometer, in general, doesn't mean squat to reliability. Everybody is harping on the wrong number. It's engine run time that matters. Take any two trucks. Put one in stop-and-go gridlock in Los Angeles for 4 hours a day. Put the other on the open highways of the Texas Panhandle 4 hours a day. When the trucks start to break down, guaranteed the LA truck will have fewer miles on the odometer. Engine run time and driving conditions. An argument could be made that Toyota makes a longer running engine, but throwing out odometer readings is just silly. To highlight that. years ago I had a 2000 Silverado. With the job I had at the time I spent a LOT of time on the highway, though not nearly as much as the Tundra guys above. That truck didn't exhibit problems till it crossed 340,000 miles. After I quit that job I bought a 2012 Tacoma. My new job required very little travel. Mostly city driving. That Tacoma fell apart at 96,000 miles. That doesn't mean I think Chevy is better than Toyota. It means highway driving is better for a truck than city driving.
@facepalmdaily4404

@snakecharmer2011 If you read to the bottom of my comment.... my most recent truck is a Tacoma. I'm just a realist. Toyota isn't what they used to be. They used to build vehicles and sell them to other manufacturers for them to rebrand. Now they do they opposite. Just look at the Supra recall. The Toyota Supra isn't even a Toyota. It's a BMW. And if the vehicle is driven nothing but stop-and-go city traffic with lots of idling, then Todd is right. Under crappy city conditions the truck stands almost zero chance of hitting 700k. Possible, but SUPER unlikely...... and again... I drive a Toyota.

Recently traded my 2018 Chevy Colorado Z71 4x4 with 7,000 miles, for a 2019 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4. The Colorado was nothing but trouble. Transmission shudder started at around 1,000 miles. Leaking front differential pinion seal and also right rear brake caliper seal found to be leaking at 5,000 miles. I was told it would take 10-21 days to get the brake parts. I didn't wait for the parts I got rid of the truck instead. The truck had never been off road or abused. No reason it should have had all these issues except for G.M. making junk, in my opinion and first hand experience.

That's a good question, ask G.M. It was the last of many frustrations as to why I traded the truck for a Tacoma. I haven't checked since about the middle of July, when the dealer told me 10-21 days, but at that time I looked online, to check for myself and there wasn't a right rear brake caliper to be had anywhere online, OEM or after market for my Colorado. The earliest ship date was August 5th. Now I have no reason to check since I got my Tacoma.

Got that right. I had a 1988 Toyota, delivered pizzas for 3 years with it, hauled everything, 318,000 miles. Only replaced clutch at 180,000. Bullet proof. Only complaint, seat position really low. Toyota FINALLY have powered seat, in 2020 SR5 and above. Praise the lord. I had a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Cummings diesel. Best, awesome engine ever built for 3/4 ton truck. 24 mpg tuned. Engine surrounded by Mopar CRAP. Air conditioner replaced, (expensive and hard as shit to do), wheel bearings, ball joints replaced twice about every 50,000 mi, upper and lower control arms replaced, whole key fob, replaced 3 times, the selector for which way heat/ air-conditioning is positioned replaced, again expensive and hard to do like airconditioner. Basically junk, other than engine. Very comfortable seats, air-conditioning works awesome, when it works. Now I'm ready for Dodge lovers to send hate texts that I'm a pussy Toyota boy. If you're gonna replace a new car or truck every 3-5 years, buy whatever one you like best. If you want one last 15 plus years, and not break, buy a Toyota.

Just bought a 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat FX4. Love it! My best friend is a Tacoma guy and I test drove both and drove the Tacoma over and over again and just preferred the Ranger. My buddy and I came to the conclusion that they’re both very capable trucks and well engineered and that it really just comes down to preference. Personally I think a better comparison would’ve been the Ranger XLT to your Tacoma which comes with a full sized touch screen and both front and rear parking sensors. As for the tailgate... come on lol it’s a truck. Besides the Ranger’s tailgate is so incredibly light, I think having a dampener would be sorta pointless. Also, the Ranger you compared was the FX4 which is not only the 4x4 but Ford’s version of the TRD Off Road. It has all the trail controls as well as crawl control with upgraded suspension. Of course that’s going to increase the sticker price considerably. You can get the new Ranger XL Crew Cab for $25-28k. As far as resell, these trucks may share the same name as the Rangers that we all grew up with however, these are completely different trucks and it’ll be interesting to see how they do in the resell market here in the US. Personally, I don’t resell my vehicles. I keep them until they are dead lol. My vehicle before I bought my new truck, I had for over 13 years and it was my first car lol. Enjoy your new truck man 👍🏻

Your discussion about the Nissan having the same engine and styling for 15 years is actually a very good thing for parts availability. However, build quality since merging with Renault, is poor. Fiat buying Chrysler, same thing. I drive a 2004 Lexus GX. Will easily go to 300K miles. If you’re going to buy a new/used vehicle to keep for a long time, Toyota is by far your best choice, bar none. (IMHO) Your comparison of your features sealed the deal for you. Very wise choice young man! Keep your new truck till the body falls off!

Thumbs down for needlessly bashing the Frontier. Nissan isn't as strong as it use to be (before Renault) but the Frontier was always a solid, dependable, capable, simple little truck...and it isn't absurdly overpriced like every other truck, which is a major draw for a lot of buyers. That said, Nissan's build quality has definitely fallen since Renault took over and they've also had lots of corruption with execs (pretty sure Carlos Goshn is in jail), so I certainly wouldn't buy any Nissan at this point, but I still respect the frontier for its old school appeal and the value it represents in the overpriced truck segment. Also, no one pays anywhere near msrp for a Frontier. I owned a Pro4x crew cab until recently and I paid $5k below msrp when I bought it new.

@@btvr17 Well, as a techie myself (I've worked in IT for 20 years), I do love a well executed, highly functional infotainment system because it makes a long commute more bearable. Had a 2012 Tacoma Sport 4x4 crew cab long bed. It was cramp for a 6 foot tall guy like me. It rode and guzzled like a tank too. No power seats and navigation and it had rear drum brakes! It felt like a truck from the 70s. Driver seating was low to the floor, but i kinda liked it. Had a shimmy that wont go away after tires were changed(it wasnt the tires). It started doing 30mph at a 55mph zone costing me 1 grand plus to fix(600$ part for a freaking valve that looks like 50bucks). The dash started peeling off and the exterior paint was a joke. I kept it clean inside and out. The only thing i did like was it held its freaking value, it's unbelievable for such a lousy truck IMHO.

I needed a truck and i was willing to sacrifice comfort and a lot less options after driving a full size for a while. My Taco wasn't much better with mpg as was my full size so it was disappointing. It felt heavy and sluggish. It was an expensive truck even though it was outdated in everyway and hardly came with any standard equipment...no powerseat for a 30k plus vehicle and still sporting drums lol. I had the Sport and the next higher trim is the offroad and still didnt come with leather, power seats, navigation, and still drum brake.

My Taco was expensive and didnt come with bells and whistles unless they were cloaked or never notice it lol. Im not gonna seat here and say it's the best truck cause I'd be in denial just like the others. Maybe they never had other trucks or it's their first vehicle and have nothing to compare it to. The Tacoma is tops in reliability and has the best resale value of any car or truck sold in the U.S. I plan to keep it fro a long time, but if I change my mind and decide to sell it, or trade it in someday, it's nice to know it will still be worth something.

My only thing I wish it had is push start, blind spot monitoring and a more comfortable from seat just a little wider would be nice. Its the price I paid for it and I like the look of the Chevy. I purchased the truck new in Aug of 2019 . The truck sticker was almost 43 grand at the time and I bought the truck for 10 thousand dollars off that price. I liked the Ford but I would have paid at least 6 to 7 thou more, same with Toyota. The price was right and sometimes you hear many people complain about a vehicle but not all are bad. There are many that run just fine, in any brand, you just don't hear about them because there are no issues.

People always rip into the Taco for what it doesn’t have. I am actually not sure what these people are looking for. Especially for a more “work-related” trim. In my mind, “does it to what you NEED, SAFELY and RELIABLY?” The higher trim Tacos can be pricy, but you are not forced to by a TRD Pro. Also, quality components are exponentially more expensive. I rather money spent on mechanical than electronic goodies.

One massive drawback to Tacos are they suck for tall guys. I think the threshold is maybe 6'0 at the tallest, will be okay. But with the shallow floor and low roofline, it sucks viewing the road out of the top portion of the windshield in the tinting all the time. No leg room. And the seats tend to be very hard and not good for long trips.

I kind of beg to differ about the price of the Frontier. Let me start by saying that I realize Scotty Kilmer says Nissans are pieces of crap. But I did look at some. And with incentives and all I was looking at about $28,000 for a crew cab, 4x4, automatic and not giving a crap about whichever other options it had. I mean it would have had a decent stereo and a back up camera. But I wasn't interested in the special off road package they offer, whatever that's called. I felt like $28,000(give or take) was probably a pretty reasonable deal for what it is. I decided to go a different direction though so I'm no longer looking at those. But not because I think they're over priced.

The sticker was $37,500 for it but they were offering it for $34700 I think because of memorial day? And since we couldn't agree on a price for my trade in we settled on $32k flat out. Nice video, I also bought mid-size in 2019, shared your opinion on the Frontier (which I didn't bother to even test drive). The suspension on the Ranger was a disqualifier for me as it felt like you were being tossed around the cab even with regular highway driving. My decision came down to a Tacoma TRD Sport or Colorado z71 (as I couldn't justify the twin, yet more expensive Canyon). While I found both the Colorado and Tacoma very sharp looking, I went with the Colorado for the towing capacity (and overall peppier v6) and more comfortable driving position (I'm fairly tall) as well as IMO a smoother suspension and ride quality. If I was doing a bit more off road use, that might have swayed me toward the Taco (or a more expensive zr2 Colorado), and to be fair, I don't think you could go wrong either way. Good work on the video!

Ya the Nissan frontier, I used to own a Nissan 300Z, it was a 1990. They've gone WAY downhill since then, no thanks. The lack of design change kinda communicates they either don't care or they're not doing well financially to invest in their new truck lines

I test drove a used '21 SR5 with 16K miles on the odo today and I was shocked at what little $43K will get you. No moon roof, very few power ports inside, no remote start, small interior, cloth seats, basic sound system, no heated seats... while my 2011 F150 FX4 was $21K with about 123K mi, but full leather interior, sun roof, power rear slide, heated seats, full power driver and passenger seats, lockable huge center console and glove box, large interior and tons of rear leg room with flat floor with seats up, big touch screen, 4 12v plugs, rear heating & a/c vents, tow mirrors, off-road suspension, heated side mirrors and rear window, twin turbos, similar mpgs, more than twice the towing and payload, trailer brake control, automatic with a switch to go into manual mode, remote start, 6.5ft bed, tailgate step and hand rail and the max tow package. It's almost paid off (bought used 4 years ago), so, I'm not sure I'll be downgrading for twice the cost. The ride was good, though, and many year models are very reliable. No hate for Toyota because I've had many, including my current lexus, but wow, it seemed like a base model that sh have been closer to $27K. You can achieve a soft open tailgate with a $20 tailgate shock.

@AlphaShark 2 жыл бұрын
The SR5 is a base model, it’s the 2nd lowest trim. Because of how the market is, they’re selling like crazy. I bought this truck for $27k brand new. They just offered me close to $40k as a trade in at a local dealer and I have no doubt they’d sell it for $43k! There are much more equipped Tacomas, but now is the absolute worst time to buy a car, especially a pickup truck. A used Taco should be in the ballpark of $22-25k because of that low mileage. You gotta factor that in, 123k is a lot of miles on a truck.

I don't think the fact that the Nissan has kept the same engine for quite some time is a problem. Toyota actually tends to keep their engines for a long time. I think it's the fact that literally nothing about that truck has changed since it was released. Like it's the most outdated pick up truck to date.

It's the most outdated vehicle to date! This year marks it being the oldest same body vehicle on the road without any major updates. But I agree on the engine aspect in retrospective I'm told it's bulletproof.

how much do you pay? I am shopping for a truck, I got Toyota Rav 4 2006. Have been service with dealer since new. About 3 months ago. Notice of oil consumption is high. They told me I need a new engine. Toyota know the problem something wrong with engine and did settle law suit 2 and a half year ago. Mine was too late to do anything. We have everything that they told need to be done, but they never tell me about the engine wrong. So I am mad and want to buy Ford or Canyon or Frontier because it cheap and 2019 has no complaint or problem. I didn't change the engine because it will cost over $6000 mine is 150000 miles now. I just took car to Gerald for oil change and keep extra oil in the car and check every 3-4 days. It takes one bottle of oil every 300 miles.

$38k for a Frontier? Unless you were getting the Pro-4X, you could have got one a *lot* cheaper than that. I got a 2018 (when it was new), almost fully loaded, for under $30K. Those trucks are great value for the money.

I went from Tacoma to Colorado. Not impressed with Toyota dealer service when I had problems. Number one problem was that "composite" plastic bed coming loose! Toyota service wouldnt even look into it. Turns out the "composite" material was wearing at the frame mounting points.

Toyota went cheap with current Tacoma. I got rid of my 2016 Tacoma due to bad wind whistling sound that could not be fixed. My 2005 Tacoma was better built. Other issues I had with the 2016 is fitment wasn't as good as 2005 and it loved shifting up and down on the slightest incline. What else sucked is it still has drum brakes and a non locking gas cap cover.

I got a 2006 Tacoma and the build quality isn't as good as the 1st Gen Tacoma's. Every year Toyota's build quality is going down hill. At this point, Toyota is the best of the worst. If I had my choice of a brand new 1998 Tacoma or a 2019 Tacoma, I'd chose the 1998 ALL DAY LONG! You can keep your 6" touch screen and power sliding rear window. I dont see these new Toyotas going 300+K miles like the old school ones.
