Why I decided not to have any children and live a child free life. When people find out that I don't want to have kids they always have a lot of questions and opinions. So here's my answers and thoughts on being childfree by choice. #childfree

Funny how people with kids always say it's selfish to not have kids but then they always tend to have kids for selfish reasons like someone to take care of them as they get older, needing a purpose in life, trying to hook someone else, money, etc?

If they're depending on Junior to take care of them as they age, GOOD LUCK!!! The nursing homes are full of folks with kids who don't call, visit or even acknowledge their existence. I've seen elderly women looked after by their friends and neighbors way better than kids look after their parents.

The research on happiness agrees with you! I read a review of scientific studies on happiness several years ago. The eye-opener was that the studies disagree on almost every aspect of happiness except one---childless people report feeling happier than those with children. This result has been replicated many times using different measures over a number of years.

I been getting shit for years and I’m almost 32. I’ve been called a genetic failure, future cat lady, said I was killing my bloodline, not a real woman, bullied at work by the moms about my relationship not being real-even strangers on the bus feel like it’s ok to tell me why I need to have them. I just had to switch therapists because I got told to just have kids to give myself a life purpose. The funny part is-when I tell these people my ovaries are fucked they suddenly feel stupid and start apologizing.I shouldn’t have to tell people about my medical status just to get them to fuck off, but that’s been my reality.

I will be 78 years old this October and I am sitting on my 30 foot sailboat contemplating going to sea for the rest of my life. I would not be here if I had a kid. I have been married three times and each time to a woman from a different continent. If I had to do it all again, I would do exactly the same thing. I'm 32 and childfree and I love it! My life is so peaceful. I have so much time to do what I want. I see most of my friends are struggling with kinds running around, no sleeping, need to take them to school everyday, pay for everything, change diapers, omg;.... no!!! I'm good the way I am.
@epiphany55
@epiphany55 3 жыл бұрын
I feel you man. Freedom is the number one benefit of being childfree for me, and not only does it make life more spontaneous and carefree, it makes me a better person. I've changed diapers, taken kids to school etc. No problem with that at all. I just want it to be 100% voluntary for friends/family, not an obligation. When something becomes an inescapable obligation that you can see drawing out on a daily basis into the future, it becomes very grey, burdensome and suffocating for me. I want to be able to give my energy to things when I have that energy, but also to be able to say "no". With having children, that energy is in constant demand, whether or not it is available. You can't say "no" when you have kids and everything is dictated by the clock rather than how you feel. It has to be done whether you are in that space or not. And I think that is the main cause of stress in life. You are imprisoned by unrelenting obligation and I'm just not the personality type to respond to that positively. So I'm aware that, for me personally, having kids is not compatible with how I roll.

I'm 34 and I've never wanted kids in my entire life. Maybe I have occasionally thought about it in an idealised sense, but hardly ever. Some of my reasons: 1. I like my independence, 2. I dislike 95% of children, 3. The world can be a nasty place, and I don't want to bring a kid into that, 4. I don't buy into this "well everyone else has kids, so I'd better have some" crap, 5. I don't buy into this "but who's gonna look after you when you're old?" crap. There's no guarantee that your kids will even be around to look after you when you're old. My brother and I were born in England, but now we both live abroad. Ergo, get a carer (if you even need one; my Nan didn't).

Why do people think it’s ‘selfish’ to choose child free life. Wouldn’t that be ‘selfless’? Most parents are not fit to be parents, in debt, living pay check to pay heck, relationship is rocky, can’t look after themselves. Yet, they still decide to have kids. They say, ‘I want to pass on my lineage, I have lots to teach, I don’t want my kids to live a hard/poor life like I did!’ Really? You can’t even take care of your own problems and you have the audacity to think they have something to pass down onto another life? Most people who decide not to have kids, take things more into consideration about the future of their (possible) children, so if it feels like you’re better off without having kids and you know the kids won’t be living the best life, as you can’t provide/afford it, they’d rather choose no kids. PS- you don’t stop your responsibilities after the child turns 18, you need to take care of your kids for the rest of their life.

You know how many women envy me because I have no drama and responsibility and or debt. They look down on me because I chose to not do what they all have done. I even have a cousin that dropped out of college and her business because she started a family and she doesn't talk to me because I have chosen a different lifestyle than her.... I agree Tim with your last reason as why you don't want any kids. I think we what is going on in this world with society as a whole bringing kids would be too selfish

When you chose to live your life against the status quo of women having children and getting married, you always get negative feedback from family, so called friends, and society as a whole!!! I've been getting the same treatment thrown at me because I chose not to have children or get married!!! The hatred against childfree and single women is very real!!!!

Thanks a lot for this Video. I dont have any kids myself and dont want any. I'm sort of an childfree activist. The USA seems to be more progressive to this topic. Here in germany childfree is still a huge taboo. The first german book on childfree lifestyle got published only a year ago - it caused a nationwide scandal and the female author got hated on by most of our country. So thank you so much for your video!

I have one chid and I understand why people dont want to bring children into this world. It's a responsibility of not to only clothing and feeding them but also protecting the from this strange world we live in. That's why this American dream was such a push because it was an easy way to get your kids to not venture out and explore this dangerous world we live in. As a father I'm going to protect my son but also not push him towards the safety of the norms of going to college and getting a good job. Sure I'll be an anxious parent if my kid decides to go and do the unordinary in life but he didnt ask to be here so why should I force him into anything that wont give him purpose?

Haha! Gosh this is soooo me. I am 43, free as a bird, I love being alone, despise the idea of a mortgage, hate staying in the same place, gotta be on the go and have new experiences, BUT I have a 16 year old and it does slow me from all those things, but theres a deeper layer of indescribable fulfillment and they bring sheer joy you never knew existed into your life. I have never been married, never had the desire and also only had 4-5 relationships in my life. I haven't dated since I had my daughter. But she is my best friend now. You are not selfish, your life just went a different way - not the wrong way. Having a kid is like having a wound and a worry that will never heal. Enjoy your freedom and peace.🙏🏼

Almost no one is ever going to say having children was a mistake; I've had only a handful of mothers and fathers acknowledging the bad choice, and usually only when they were very impaired, or on the brink of nervous breakdowns. Realistically, you can only play out certain situations , and qualifying the value of the experience is abstract. It's hard to be in LTR's, and NOT have them; I've struggled with that a few times. More people should put more thought into it, instead of just being afraid of missing out.Too often, kids are the ultimate act of selfishness, which isn't how it was supposed to be.

@@Sappylittletrees So often, I see people make bad choices for want of alternatives, - better, or otherwise.Needless to say, if you are pursuing a specific passion, or if you are caught up in drugs or illegal activities, having kids isn't the move.I always feared looking in my kids eyes and knowing that I was deliberately failing them due to my life choices.You can blame others, or society, but it ultimately comes back to you.Everday, everywhere I go, I see children born into chaos, to parents that are mentally unfit.

To Betty - Thank you, thank you, thank you for your honesty. If only people were honest and straight about kids, I may be more inclined to have them, however, I only ever hear the mantra of 'meaning' and 'fulfillment', and then the constant whining about how hard a parent's life is, how they don't get time for themselves, how they're not given enough support by the government... etc, etc.. but how they 'wouldn't change it for the world'. If people were just damn honest about how they love their kids, but their life was better without them... well, maybe I could consider having them. All I hear is desperate anger and regret and bitterness from parents.
