I've decided to live a #childfree life. Here's some reasons why:
1. Children are expensive.
2. Kids are a lifelong obligation.
3. Raising children is stressful.
4. Kids are a joint venture.
5. I might not be a good parent.
6. I don't see the point in having kids.
7. The world already has plenty of kids.
8. I'm too old to start having kids.
9. Parents have to hang out with other parents/kids.
10. My kids might not be well behaved.

I cant wrap my head around these kind of statements. Only reason for not having kids is not wanting to take on the responsibility (which is perfectly reasonable.) But lets not act like there was ever an ideal golden age for having kids. As i think of it, each generation life expectancy goes up

Main reason to not want kids is having complete silence. I was open to having children when I was in my 20's...that's only if I found a compatible husband. Never happened. Now that I am in my 40's, I am actually relieved that I didn't have any children. Single and childfree. I love my independence and solitude. Not to mention sleeping 8-10hrs every night. Raising children to adulthood is not for everyone...especially not in this chaotic world.
@EC777

I’m right there with you. I was open to it when I was younger if I found a husband, but i didn’t. I never had that maternal instinct and I placed finding a good partner over kids. I'll be turning 40 and have no kids. It takes a strong person to deal with all the criticism and the odd looks at get together, when you're always the only one who chose a child free life. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Since I'm the only child on my fathers side, I won't be continuing his legacy and that's a blessing because he abandoned me. I'll never forget that day, crying uncontrollably after him, as a four year old child. I can't imagine surviving through my child's heart breaking, the way my little heart broke, forever. There's just so much cruelty, pain and suffering, competition for resources, poverty and wage slavery in this World. Why put a child through that? This World is just not good enough for the future generations.

Back in the day, I got into an argument with my mother and sister in law, and they shamed me for not wanting to be a mother. This was when my husband and I were first married, and my sister in law had just had her first baby. She gave me the speech about how she's carrying on her bloodline, how she sees her grandfather in her son, and how parenthood is so sacred and magical, and blah, blah, blah. Fast forward to today, She's been married twice, and both men cheated on her and left her. she has three kids who are living with my mother/father in law who are both retired, old, and decrepit. Their house is always a mess. They never get any peace and quiet. My father in law is always looking for an excuse to get out of the house. One of the kids ran away to live with his girlfriend and isn't going to school. So now, my sister in law who is currently in jail for not being able to pay her taxes may be getting charged again because her oldest son won't go to school and no one can get a hold of him. These aren't the only problems she's faced, but I'm not going to write a book on here. Although part of me feels bad for them, I can't help but smile out of spite when I think of how they shamed me for not wanting to be a mom. Sometimes, I really want to ask them..."So, how's motherhood and grandparenting going for ya? Enjoying your sacred duty as a parent? 😏

Honestly I think being a parent can be great but the way they came about it definitely wasn’t the correct approach. And yeah, I would say being a parent is sacred since no one else brought that particular child into the world but that doesn’t mean it’s fun 😂. Some people make horrible parents and it’s good if they either better themselves or just never become parents, nice story.

You're not alone in this bro. These are my main reasons why I don't wanna have kids: 1- They are too expensive: Cost of living is already too high and rising more and more. If I work , I don't wanna see all my money disappears in the blink of an eye. I wanna enjoy it and do things I like with it 2- Freedom: I reject any kind of pressure that pushes me to do something I don't feel like to. I'd rather spend my time doings activities or whatever. I do as I please, when I please 3. Future plans: I have other plans in mind , such as travelling around the world, meeting new people, exploring places , and having children isn't one of them. Absolutely not!

I’ve never had that happen before. 😂 Excellent rant and I’m ‘damn near 60’ and grateful I didn’t have kids for all the romantic reasons and fantasies that culture pushes. I’m often assumed to be a younger person and when asked my ‘secret’ I say “sleep, regular meals…no marriage, no kids… but good friends who offer reciprocity. And, noone really wants to hear about how you’ve managed to carve out more choices and options for your life. But, not feeling stuck between kids and aging parents while trying to manage debt and a changing economy means that you have enough space around you to complete adult challenges without it coming at the cost of your health. I can be more of service to others by not running on empty all the time. I’m 40. I don’t have any children. I witnessed first hand how hard single parenting was for my mom. Our society doesn’t support the health and wellness of parents or children. My mother was extremely stressed and, as her primary support system (I was the oldest) so was I. All we do is make cuts to social services that parents and children need: school buses, schools, resource teachers, after school programs, social workers, recreation centers. I don’t miss being a child and I can’t imagine growing up in today’s world. Public areas like parks and waterfronts have become encampments and the local children in my county don’t have many places where they can socialize and hang out. More than ever parents have become a 24hr taxi service for their children and their children’s friends, shuttling them around to safe places where they can interact and build social skills. Things are very different now. To me, being a parent AND being a child in today’s world looks very isolating, like prison. Sry for the long ramble.

I am a 48-year-old woman with no kids. Never wanted any, but 100% of the women I’ve known in my life wanted them. Not 99%, but 100%! Crazy! My friend went through hell to get pregnant at 47 and went tough even more hell with a premature baby. Hell no! Look at all the screwed up people running around in the world. I’m sure they were once cute babies. Look at the state of the world, what is being taught at school, all the insanity! No way! It’s time to end these karmic cycles and generational traumas! Other reasons not to have kids: women become totally absorbed with them and start ignoring their partners and their relationship suffers; you can’t have a normal, intelligent adult conversation with a child. Teaching two plus two is not fun for me; Your life is not your own anymore. Other animal species quickly let go of their young, but a human is totally dependent on his parents for years; your house is always a mess… I can go on and on. It’s a hard no for me. Parenthood is not for everybody. There are some great parents out there, I do have to give them credit.

I used to want having kids a lot to a point where I felt scared that I wouldn't, until last year this was the situation. However, after getting married to a prick, I got abandoned after a year of our marriage with no reason whatsoever. It was a traumatic experience for me but opened up my eyes to the bitter reality of the world we live in today. That reality is that you can't trust anybody, even the person you get married to, with anything let alone having kids with them. I realized that single parenting is very scary, especially as a woman, having to sacrifice your body, time, energy and everything into kids that you made with the person you once trusted with everything, but chose to cheat on you, dump you or act abusive towards you. A big no for me. In an ideal utopic world, where the father is all loving, loyal, honest, responsible and the mother caring and nurturing, that would seem very nice to have, but it's just an ideology which happens to fail 99% of the time because of the current world we live in. Everyone talks about how nice it is to have a family with kids, but nobody talks about how untrustworthy, irresponsible, unfaithful and unreliable people have become and once you get divorced, it is even worse, because now the children have to pay the price. It's all a huge mess that I am not interested in to be involved with. I'd rather maintain my fit healthy looks, be with the person I want to be with, and not have to worry about what'd happen if one day they betray me.

Dude, You are on point with everything! I thought i wanted kids when I was in my 20s. But now I’m 33 and went through an epiphany when I turned 30. I realized that I enjoy my me time a lot! My philosophy on life is: Keep things simple! The less responsibilities, the better! If i had a child, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the things I want to do (gaming, traveling, hitting the gym) on MY time. I want to go as I please without having to worry about finding a babysitter or what time should I be back home. I realized that some peoples’ reasons for having kids is because we are fixated on the idea that we should have kids, get married and etc based on society’s standards. Like if one person sees another person having a child, they get jealous and eager to want a child of their own because we are all about trying to compete and compare each other lives like it’s a competition. And i also feel that some parents especially the younger parents often treat their kids like “trophies” and be like, “oh Timmy won his first spelling bee, what has your son/daughter accomplished?” I’m like “get out my face” 😅

Typical comment of the current generation completely egocentric and narcissistic. These people run the risk of becoming disenchanted with age quite quickly, pseudo friendships withering away, total and distressing emptiness as time goes by, particularly after retirement. And in the end the feeling of a wasted life, of an absence of transmission of a little of oneself, of an absence of passing the torch. And how not to say that with this kind of idea it is the very future of the human race that is at stake, not to mention the gradual death of our civilization, to the detriment of others whose representatives do not not ask all these questions and which are otherwise fruitful, follow my gaze.

I’d like to add my biggest reason why I’m not having kids. I don’t recommend life. There is far more pain and suffering that is to be experienced than pleasure and joy - even for the average and above-average quality lives. The most common feeling the average person feels on a day-to-day basis is tired, and it is more common to hate yourself than it is to not. Plus, none of us asked to be born. A lot of people say it’s immoral to pierce a baby’s ear because they can’t consent to it, but don’t realize they’re forcing a new being in a world where they’ll have to work a crappy job they hate for 50+ years without a guarantee that it’s going to even pay for their base existence. We spend the majority of our lives working so we can pay for our ability to go back to work the next day. How much money do we spend on our rent/mortgage and utilities for a space we use mainly to sleep in so we can go to work the next day to pay for it? What about our cars that we use mainly to drive to work and back: payment, gas, insurance, maintenance, etc.? All of that adds up to half your take-home if you’re very lucky. Most of our time not working is spent decompressing from it by using coping/escape-like mechanisms like music, algorithmic entertainment such as TikTok, KZbin, etc. I was born in 1999, and the fact that I couldn’t experience all the small and large pleasures I’ve ever experienced in my life in 1998 has not harmed me in the slightest. But all the pleasures in my life pale in comparison to the fact that I’m going to eventually leave existence, which is far more painful than never having come into it (aka, my life in 1998) - and all the suffering and boringness I’ve experienced, which is average in comparison to the general population. The only things we can guarantee our kids is suffering and death. No pleasure in life is guaranteed, even if you’re the best parent in the world. There is chronic pain, but no chronic pleasure. Our children are literally 10 million times more likely to get cancer than to cure it - or to even contribute meaningful research towards a cure. Sorry for the long ramble. Just my two cents. I like my life. I just can’t imagine giving it to someone else where none of the good things in it are guaranteed. Hope this wasn’t too doom-and-gloom. 😂
