Why I Denounced Delta Sigma Theta Sorority: My Journey Leaving Greek Life

Christians in sororities and fraternities is such a touchy discussion. I denounced delta sigma theta sorority in 2021 after 13 years. The purpose of this video is to share my journey and speak to some of the common questions I received since going public a little over a year ago. NOTE: There is much that was not shared. I primarily focused on the official process of joining an organization and why I removed myself. What I didn't mention is what's considered "underground" processes to join (hazing). This looks different depending on the organization and chapter (where you pledge).

Our prayer continues to be that blinded eyes are opened, that hearts are receptive, resulting in their obedience to come out as well.

Yes Ma'am. I denounced and renounced in 2020. When I realized what I had done, I wept and was soooo embarrassed. The Lord forgave me and I thank Him for it. The freedom is inexplainable. The Lord is calling us to help others be free. Thank you for this my sister. Excellent! To God be the glory!

Praise God! This was very informative and so well put. I just denounced and renounced Delta last year in January of 2022. I had been in Delta for 20 years. I was also Christian and saved, but not in my word like I should have been. He began to reveal to me on last year that being in the sorority was not of him. I thank God for delivering me. I recently pledged Delta this Spring and renounced after only 90 days. There is no way you can be a bible reading Christian and not feel convicted. I couldn’t sleep until I renounced and got rid of all that stuff from my house. I learned a powerful lesson about being caught up in hype. I was aggravated during the entire process but stayed in due to peer pressure which is sad at 41 yrs old. Nevertheless it didn’t last long. I sent my letter, messaged my line sisters, informed the chapter president and rolled out. Been in peace ever since. 🙏🏽❤️ I’m waiting to see how He wants me to make it public because I am influential in my community and folks are going to be tight. 🤦🏽‍♀️

A part of me was always conflicted with my decision not to pledge (when the idea would surface). But I see now that God was counseling me during those moments through divine intervention. Awesome testimony!!! Denounced and renounced DST in 2016 after the Holy Spirit revealed through prayer and fasting that I was in Idolatry because of the oaths I took in Fall 1992 while pledging. At the time I had been inactive since 1999. 🎉

Thank you for this testimony. I denounced/renounced Free Masonry Eastern Star in 2018 I was a member for 4 years. I cried as well when I read my ritual book something you receive after taking all the oaths. I prayed and asked Jehovah God to forgive me. Idolatry is real Satan will blind you into thinking it's perfectly fine to be a part of it and it's not that serious. But be wise my people🙏 1 Corinthians 6: 9 & 10 2 Corinthians 4: 4

Thank you for your obedience to God. My dad informed me of oaths to sororities and fraternities before I entered college, thus I never pledged. However I have family members and friends who have pledged and I pray the Holy Spirit will draw them just as he has drawn you. You are so compassionate and speak with the love of God. My only advice to you is that, don't be so concerned about hurting people's feelings or offending someone. Greek fraternities & sororities are not of God; point blank & that's all it is to it. Praise the Lord, GOD is still moving to bring His people out of bondage/idolatry. 27 years ago when there was no social media, the Holy Spirit spoke to me to come COMPLETELY OUT of the sorority I was attached too. I did not have the full understanding and at one point I thought God was picking on me because I did not know of any other Christians that God was telling them to do the same thing. Nevertheless, I obeyed God and much understanding came later. Giving God ALL the glory 🙌🏽🙌🏽 for your release. I pray 🙏🏽that this video helps to set others FREE. ❤❤❤❤

I enjoyed this testimony so much. It is always interesting to me that everyone says they do not remember the initiation/ceremonial process. I think you are the first person I have heard say that it is because you were tired. I often think, don't people remember their wedding ceremony even if it was years or decades ago? But maybe not. My mother and closest friends are Deltas and I have shared denouncement videos with them but they all say that it is "built on Christian principles" no matter how well the video breaks down the information or how genuine and compassionate the person is in the video. I love how you shared that God told you that you do not get to decide what you are "the face of." Our Heavenly Father chastises us and gets all in our mess, doesn't He? Gotta love HIM for getting us together in a way that we can understand whether we like it or not. 🙂I also love how you addressed every single rebuttal that you hear. My father was on the charter line for Omega at his college in the late 40s. My mother pledged Delta, but did not cross. (I can't remember why.) I would have pledged AKA in college in the 80s but the Lord shut the door. Currently my sister, in laws, three of my best friends, and probably 75% of my church are all "Greek." (We even have college & Greek day at the church!😢 ) My youngest son will enter college this year with his best buddy, who is already preparing to pledge and trying to encourage my son to do the same. I am grieved in my soul about all of this. I've shared with my closest friends (all sincere Christians) these concerns but none of them really heard the alarm. I think of God's command to Ezekiel (chpt 33) to warn the people. I will continue to pray for eyes and hearts to be opened to the truth. Lord, help.

I’m not Greek but I found out in 2018 that the organizations including masonry weren’t of God. I know so many people in these organizations and this definitely help minister to those in them. God bless you for putting your testimony out there to help set God people free!! 🙌🏽

Thank you for this wake-up video. Also saw a video by "Jade" who just renounced DST. It made me think way back to my university days when I pledged a "Greek" organization in my major area of study. It was made to sound like an honors organization. I was so excited as it would look good on my resume. I knew I had made a mistake on the night of the formal initiation ceremony. We had to wear white robes and remove all jewelry. Even the 3 sisters that were already married had to remove their wedding rings!!! The large room was dark with only candle light. Even our prof sponsors were there. I can't remember everything so many years later, but their were oaths to the Greek letters and "secret" sentences in Greek which had to do with love and the arts. They told us that we must never, ever tell anyone the secret 3 words. I was shocked to find myself in this situation as I was also secretary of our campus Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship. After the ceremony one of the new sisters was so moved, she was sobbing and said it was the most beautiful thing that had ever happened to her! What!? I should have left then. But like you, I was 19 - 20, lacked confidence and self esteem and wanted to have an honors Greek organization on my resume. I'm still getting occasional emails from the organization, and when the sender signs their name with the accepted Greek signature phrase, it still makes me cringe. God has blessed me greatly and we pray and thank Him every night. Thanks for reminding me of this dark past. God Bless! ✝️ PS- I just remembered... They led us in to the candle lit room with white blindfolds on! Is this something that should be going on in a respected university?

I pledged to Sigma Gamma Rho in my youth. But, after finishing college I realized that this just did not feel right in my spirit. After finishing college I never stayed involved because it felt like idol worship. I have cousins who seem to live, breath, and put Delta into everything they do. It is not my place to say anything so I use wisdom. But, for me it is a no in terms of Greek organizations. I am now late middle age and still don't get the fascination with Geek life.

Do you think in 2023, people seeking to join Black Greek Orgs, Masons, Eastern Star, & etc. now have access (due to Social Media & the internet), to know everything entailed in the membership intake process & initiation rituals, such that nothing will be a surprise to them? I guess I'm asking, is the secret not so much a secret anymore? If a person does their research can they say that they didn't know what they were getting into (both the good aspects and the controversial aspects? I'm not questioning a person who joins and changes their mind and denounces, because as you mentioned, people's values and interests change. I'm asking (and forgive the rambling), do you think a Sophomore in college/university in 2023 has the full picture of what membership in an org is vs. a Sophomore in 1989. Thanks!

I’m convinced enough to not join after debating, however something you said about spirituality. Just curious as to why it’s not Christian like to do as you see fit. Or what works for me. I grew up in church, I have a lot of foundational beliefs but I live how I believe I’m led to. Through truth.

If you’re a Christian and have a relationship with God, being overzealous about a Greek organization does not sit right spirituality. I’ve struggled with this myself which is why I don’t idolize the sorority.

People makes vows as Christians and don't follow any of those vows. People make wedding vows and cheat on their spouses. Honestly, you just need to know who you truly are and what you stand for. All of these organizations, including the church organizations can be deceiving and not of the True and Living God. I'm not quick to condemn sororities and fraternities when you have Pastors out here doing all kinds of evil things. There is evil and good in everything and if you are going to speak on one entity, please be prepared to speak on the other.

To kneel at an alter of a pagan diety doesn’t have anything to do with good at all. You enter into a bond from which you will never be free from. Why is it necessary? You cannot serve two masters. We are to be humble. There is not remotely near humble about the divine nine. Look up the word divine. There are people who actively pray to these pagan gods represented by each of the nine organizations. Minerva isn’t even Greek… didn’t even use the right name. My people perish from a lack of knowledge !

Your skepticism is giving you the answer. There is nothing else you need except God; he tells us that. The man that wanted to stay back and help his father before he joined Jesus; and his father was no where near death; what did Jesus tell him; let the dead bury the dead.
