The most expensive antique coin that i made into a ring for someone was $70. I've seen some extremely costly ones at coin shows. I still feel a little bad when taking them out of collectors circulation like that but enjoy when someone appreciates what it is made out of. I don't have as much time for my etsy shop and self promotion as i used to. I've been focusing on privately minted coins with unique designs. My A.D.D keeps me from sticking with one art form for too long as well as switching my major a ton in art school so i am a jack of all trades. I love your videos and am trying to find the energy and time to make videos of my own of all the unique functional and decorative creations that come forth.

It’s really a head game I think personally. I went through the same thought process when I started making these years ago. There are literally millions of these things out there. Every coin shop in the country has a stack of them for sale. The US government wrapped them up in patriotic sauce in order to unload them for a premium. And even then it took 7 sales over almost a decade to finally get the public to take them off their hands.

1.1 million mintage on the 1882 CC. I think you should go large and buy 500, 000 or more of these 1882 CC's. Make them all into rings. That would leave the otherwise small population even smaller, thus rarity would logically go up, and remain coins would skyrocket in price.

I agree. Very cri ge. With Carson City dollars being the crem dela crem, a CC dollar is a piece of history. I wonder why it is, or isn't illegal to deface or destroy American coinage? I know we can't melt coins down to get bullion, like pre '82' Lincoln cents. But it's totally worth it. Currently, a copper cent( can't bring myself to ever call them pennies ), is worth 3.1 cents melt value. And nickels are worth 8 cents melt.

You are a talented craftsman, but not educated on CC Morgans. You could have bought a non GSA, ungraded CC Morgan, same year/condition and made the same ring for less. Once you removed it from the GSA packaging, that is exactly what you had. The good thing is that is a common year, the bad thing is you could have paid one to two hundred less for a raw 1884 cc Morgan, made the exact same coin, and passed the savings to the buyer. But it is a beautiful ring, no doubt!

You replied to another comment and said "it's always interesting to see how perceived value affects emotions", and that "perceived value is really the key here." No... That's not perceived value. Perceived value would be me thinking my Morgan's are priceless because they came from my grandfather. My subjective perception. Or you believing this Morgan "looks better this way." Your subjective perception. Actual value is based upon the objective facts of the product. In this case mintage, grade, demand, history, and so on. But it's your coin, do what you want with it. If you don’t care, no one else should. At any rate, the real key here is semantics and it appears your grasp on them is weak.

Thanks I appreciate the compliment! Honestly the reason is just because I can I guess. People want them is a big reason. But the biggest reason for me is that this exposes the silliness of perceived rarity. It’s literally just like you said. The only difference is the cc markings. I’m not really a sentimental person so this feels good to do. And on the flip side, a very small set of people will get the ability to wear one of these. That group loves the exclusivity of it. I don’t care about that part of it but I do like making them :)
