I'm looking to get in to the ICU because I want to attend CRNA school but you made very valid points for your decision. Loving the videos, keep them coming!

Male, NYC , RN. I've had trouble deciding which dept to work at. ER sounds intimidating but the rewards for future studies you mention are enticing. Thanks for the insight.

I love how you think ahead and plan out your path to what will really benefit you towards eventually becoming a PA. You are really inspiring and I love how well spoken you are. May God bless you and help you attain all your goals.

Peace be to you Mr.Brown! The ER will give you an EXCELLENT foundation for medical management which includes some procedures! Try to get some skills like line placement (if you're allowed there) and suturing! You will be incredibly sought after as a PA! I have used the knowledge and skill set I garnered during my rotations in ER for the past 17 years. You NEVER know what's going to show up in the ER. You ALSO learn to prioritize ("Treat the teenage skateboarder w/ a possible broken toe or, the middle-aged obese guy w/angina first?")🤔

Yes, my feelings are hurt. Do NOT ever say ICU is quiet, aha. That is so offensive to us ICU nurses. You may not get that patient interaction but you learn to interact with their loved ones while your patient is sick.But best of luck to you though!! Still look forward to your videos.

I'm starting my 3rd semester bsn next month. I'll be doing oB, peds, como, and informatics. Last semester I had the opportunity to go on the ER for one day .omg I learned so much, putting in catethers, iv, drowning blood, running iv. Then when I went back in my medsurg unit, it was boring. I'm contemplating getting a student nurse position in the ER

I admire your video as a fellow nurse! Do you use your I pad to take notes during report when in ER or just strictly for school?

You made valid points. You are really looking into the future which is awesome! I work in pediatrics and I love trying to guess the pts dx and I'm not a nurse yet. Starting in the fall as LPN then bridging to RN. Did you do better studying by yourself or with a group in school?
@Alyssa186336 жыл бұрын
I hope this isn’t a stupid question, but, are male nurses allowed to take care of, for example, like you said, vaginal bleeds of girls/women? Or are only female nurses allowed to do that? Sorry if this is a dumb question I’m just genuinely curious & don’t know
@RayBoomBoomRoom6 жыл бұрын
Alyssa a nurse is a nurse and if the Male nurse or patient feel uncomfortable then she can ask for a lady or you can ask a little nurse to be there with you or change patient.
@kaynenbrown51026 жыл бұрын
Alyssa No questions is a stupid one:). It does not matter if you are a male or female, you’re the nurse. Now if a pelvic exam is needed I will certainly make sure a female coworker is in the room as well.

Honestly, a year isnt enough experience to be at least intermidiate in the arts of the bedside. But at least you know your goal early on. Good luck! I know you will do great.

Hey so why not choose NP? Usually NP’s have a little more freedom then PA’s and they’re more independent
@simplychi94186 жыл бұрын
how did you come about wanting to go to PA school? Was is during, after or before nursing school? What lead you to that decision?
@MattandKatAdventures6 жыл бұрын
I also don’t understand why you would not become an NP if already a nurse. In NY NP or DNP is considered higher
@simplychi94186 жыл бұрын
there are differences..I really would like to know the differences that matter to him

@mochabetty5 жыл бұрын
MattyPie NP and PA are considered to be the same mid level practitioners or APP(Advanced Practice Provider), everywhere in the US especially in NY. Pay is the same as well, one is not “higher” than the other.

why does almost every nurse try to avoid the ICU? is it really that bad?
@kaynenbrown51026 жыл бұрын
Derp Queen I don’t know.🤨🤨I know many that like the ICU so it’s just preference I would presume.
@brianharrison36766 жыл бұрын
Derp Queen For sure it is just preference. Nurses used to say to me why do you work in the ED when I worked there and I would say why do you work in the ICU back. Lol
@ZiMakeUp5 жыл бұрын
I avoided it cause I thought it was boring but my preceptorship never gave me the real deal. ICU is amazing. There is so much more to learn that the ED in my personal opinion.
@hellojuneau89176 жыл бұрын
What I hear from nurses are other floors and ER use more critical thinking versus ICU there's a lot of nurses that depend on protocol. Don't know if this is true or partly. Did you ever do a video on PA versus MD it other advanced practice routes??
@ZiMakeUp5 жыл бұрын
Sqrb3arスクエアクマ UH, in my experience. It seemed many ICU nurses have more critical care experience. ER is like the bandaid. They stabilize. Don’t let me discredit them. Of course they are critical thinkers and you do see more a variety of stuff. ICU on other hand...they see everything and have to keep in mind why we need to start certain medications and do procedures.
@Winston0Boogie5 жыл бұрын
If you put me in either I'd be just be happy. I prefer ICU right now but to each their own. :)

Prior to transitioning LPN to RN (school) I knew ED was my first choice-ICU my 2nd. Fortunately, I was able to precept in ICU prior to completion & I agree....Two completely different environments: ICU is too quiet, a lot of computer clicking & 80% of the patients don’t talk!! I like interacting with patients & I love chaos....”Organized Chaos”!! Emergency Department is LIT 🔥😂 You’re doing great Kaynen

What's PA school? Sorry lol (from New Zealand)
@kaynenbrown51026 жыл бұрын
Symmone Yates A PA is a clinician that works along side a doctor to treat patients. If you have nurse practitioners in New Zealand then that’s what a PA is only they attend a school of medicine rather than a school of nursing. Some say it’s a provider that is in the middle of a doctor and a nurse...if that helps you better understand.
@antaya7156 жыл бұрын
