Seems to be a lot of misunderstanding and upset Emira owners here, so lets clear things up... This WHOLE video is about why I chose to buy a GT4 instead of an Emira. The features of the GT4 suit MY lifestyle needs from a car and what I want from a car. NONE of this is related to the Emira being a bad car. As a petrol head, you compare cars within the same bracket, to help you choose the car you want to eventually purchase and own... which I outline in this video & subsequently led me to buying a GT4. As you can see from the outro, I look forward to seeing the Emira on the road & I'm sure it'll be a cracking car to own!

Don’t quote me but I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that a suitcase can fit behind the seats of the Emira. Looks are subjective and the gt4 is a nice looking car, the Emira looks more exotic IMO though and I don’t see a bad angle on it personally. Waiting times are an issue definitely but owners picking up early cars will probably have free motoring or sell at a profit, especially for the first year or two. Also Lotus historically have one of the best residuals around as does Porsche so don’t think you can go much wrong with either there. Finance is on par with what Porsche would offer brand new @ around 5.9% and the Emira has good residual looking at gfv. Engine wise the Porsche wins hands down on that one. The rest of the points could be argued either a way I guess.

Great pick! I can see why you picked the GT4 over the Emira. I’m still onboard the Emira train because the huge storage behind the seats and the trunk is enough for me. The lack of front storage imho is more due to packaging constrains of the traditional longer double wishbone control arms. The GT4 and the Emira are my top picks but I’ve decided to take the risk with Lotus.

This... Better suspension and downforce on the front of the Emira makes it the clear winner... At nearly half the price. I think an Emira and a cheap daily like a kia rio or something would be the optimum setup.

Emira being the finally gas powered Lotus it will hold a better resale value. In America a 2005 Lotus Elise with 30,000 miles is going for $50,000 a competitive Boxter with similar miles will go for $12-$15,000.. that should tell you plenty

@@rokan81 The 718 GT4 is not a 'normal' Cayman. It's quite rare and can not be bought unless you have a close relationship with a Porsche dealer. Its a lovely car you have purchased and well done, as for your points comparing the Emira to the GT4, 1 the Emira I understand has similar or greater luggage capacity with the space behind the seats, 2 The point about supercharger versus normally aspirated, you’ll only know when you’ve tried them both, 3 reliability of a Porsche? I had a 911 992 2S convertible for 10 months and 5000 miles and I loved it apart from the 7 times it went back for many problems including untold rattles a squeaks, instrument failure, panel realignment rear wing motor replacement and torsion bar replacement over 5 weeks in the garage, my friends 911 991 blew a turbo and cylinder damage and his friends 992 had a new gearbox, apparently these cars have amazing build quality? 4 Residuals on Porsche are good especially 911s but all cars have amazing residuals in this world were supply’s are not meeting demand Lotus Emiras are reported to be selling 2nd hand ( before they have been released) for £30k above new 🤔 5 the design of the Porsche is great but no better than the Emira but personal is just that Personal. It sounds like your justifying this purchase to yourself, which of course we all do, Its a lovely car and im sure you’re going to love every minute of ownership.

Congratulations on a beauty! I have been driving a Lotus Evora S since 2012, with now 103500 KMS on it. It’s my daily driver and haven’t had big problems at all. I shall exchange it for a Lotus Emira in July, and have been offered 60% of what I paid for it. So Lotus is fantastic for residuals. As for storage space? The has the radiator mounted horizontally, which is the best solution to protect it against stones. The 200 liters behind the seats (and on the rear seats in the Evora) will hold a suitcase and a Brompton folding back. So whereas I understand your decision and wish you all the very best of enjoyment of your ownership, I shall be sticking to my Emira Dark Verdant. All the best, Bart

@@KKushman A Lotus is something special. I've driven my Elise back to back with a Porsche 911 Turbo and was surprised that I preferred my Lotus. Sure, the 911 was a monster and could leave my Elise in the dust, but handling was muted in comparison and the car felt sterile - no soul which older Porsches seemed to have. The best thing about a modern Porsche to me though is this aspect of it. I could drive a Porsche as a daily driver and not really care if it was totaled tomorrow because they make so many it is easy to get another one, like buying an appliance. If the Elise was totaled, I'd need a period of mourning. As you said, exclusive as well. People frequently walk past mush more expensive cars to take a look at my Lotus. Even non-car people see something special. Give them a turn behind the wheel, and car people appreciate it too. All with a dependable Toyota based drive train that is cheap to run. Special cars.

The Porsche is a brilliant, brilliant car, no wrong choices here... but I would have gone for the Lotus. When I consider this catergory of performance car, I don't let practicality or resale value come into it, it's going to be a second/third driver anyway. I'd choose the Lotus because its the braver, more exciting choice, its a new chassis (even if just a development of the Europa plan), the last of the petrol powered Lotus', you know they're going to make the handling and steering very special. It's also going to be a much rarer sight on the roads and lots of people will be interested about the feedback of it too.

You can def get more in an evora than a cayman since i have had both i know this. Emira seems close to an evora in terms of space so i would say get emira if you want more storage. I managed to get 4 brand new tyres in my evora (2 behind seats and 2 on passanger seat). This was impossible in the cayman. Turbo charging and supercharging are very different things, you cant really tell the difference between naturally aspirated and supercharged since supercharger is working constantly throughout the rev range.

Does the luggage shelf behind the seats in the Emira not give you just as much if not more room than the frunk in the Porsche? You then described drawback/feel of turbo cars vs n/a cars whereas supercharged cars closely mimic n/a cars and feel nothing like turbos. You like the Porsche GT brand... can't fault someone's personal taste of course, but your practicality and driving experience arguments have some holes. As for the delay... very valid there!! The front of the car is actually used for the suspension, not just aero. The space is actually relatively similar, but whatever. Twin-screw supercharged cars actually feel like N/A cars. GT = GT... ok, whatever. Residuals... we can't predict the future. Finance... go buy a new GT4... LOL. You're comparing a used car to a new car. Apples and oranges. I agree, the GT4 is a looker, but there are so many Porsche's on the road and except for the wing... they all look the same. I like that Emira will be unique and different. Anyway, these are your reasons, right or wrong... your money, you spend it how you like. I'm sticking with the Lotus. Everyone I know has a Porsche, they're everywhere... they're just not special to me. Enjoy your GT4 for 5-6k miles... sell it for what you bought it for and by then the Emira will be out and you can always change your mind if you want to. Make another video, we won't hold it against you either way. Cheers! ;)

GT4 and Emira are not in the same class. 718 GTS yes, GT4 no. GT4 is an allocation-only car and not available for non-Porsche customers. Secondly, there's the price.tag. Base price for GT4 is £80K without any extras, so you're looking at a ballpark 86K- 90K bracket. GT4 performance is 3.6 0-60. The only thing these two cars have in common is a mid-engine. P.S no one cares about storage space in a coupe.

The Emira has the behind the seats and the back it all the same because the rear in the Porsche is very shallow so no difference But it’s just super charged is just force air in a natural aspirated car so no lag Superchagers are popular in usa not the same as a turbo charge engine Residual may be better but you don’t know what the emira residual is going to be in the future . because they will be electrified and not manufactured in the near future with manual boxes that makes them exotic and valuable! I'm the complete opposite. Granted, your car is nice, and I wouldn't complain if that was my only choice. I have a poor man's Caymen with my 2013 Subaru BRZ. But I want a car that brings me excitement whether I'm walking towards it or sitting behind the wheel. For me, that's the Emira. As many have already stated, the trunk space shouldn't be an issue with the Emira. I have never owned a supercharged or turbo'd vehicle (although I've contemplated installing a supercharger in my BRZ). I feel like the engine in the Emira will be much cheaper to fix due to the Toyota based engine. I've owned a couple of European cars before (Peugeot and Saab) and they were pretty expensive to fix. Granted, Lotus is a European car but having that Toyota engine kind of makes it Japanese too. LOL! Although your car is nice, I agree that it's pretty common. It's rare to see a Lotus on the road here in the US. As for practicality, I have my SUV for that. For me, every angle of the Emira looks nice. The interior looks good too. Definitely an upgrade to my BRZ! I also love the sound of the Emira and being able to see the engine through the rear window is too cool. As for residuals and from what I've seen, Lotus vehicles also hold their value. If the Emira is the last of its kind, then I think it has a good chance of its value going up. Right now, I can only dream of being able to put money down just to get on the Emira's waiting list. I agree with your point about putting money down and having to wait. From what I've heard, the wait is now about 2 years with the high demand of the Emira. But congrats on your purchase! Don't let the opinions dissuade your decision. As I've said previously, if the GT4 was my daily I would be happy too. :)

I am sure when I see an Emira on the road I will have some end but some of the reviews from people I have seen since driving the Emira (Harry's Garage and Tim from Shmee) have both mentioned some things that put me off on top of delivery delays. And I am aware of the Supply Chain issues that all car manufactures are facing before everyone jumps on that. I just think that Lotus have handled the communication very poorly and there is a lot of hype about a car that not a lot people have driven outside the motoring journo's. I truly hope they are awesome cars. Like this video states I think the safer option is a Porsche for quality and living with it daily

You changed your mind, that’s fine but blaming the Emira seems an odd way to justify your decision. The Emira will have better luggage space than the Cayman, and Lotus have better residuals than Porsche - you may want to do the research there. Your other reasons are subjective. But to compare a Cayman GT4 to a launch spec Emira seems unfair. Would you take a base Cayman over the Emira? You can choose any car, I’m just not sure you had to imply issues with the Emira and Lotus wanting you to pay for it as being why you were sort of forced into a Porsche. However, it sounds like you’re suited to the brand.

@rmsamonte
@rmsamonte 2 жыл бұрын
The myth about electric cars being "greener" is such a lie. You still need fossil fuels for the power plants to provide electricity to charge your EV. Will the power plants upgrade their ability to deliver more electricity? It's bad enough you risk rolling blackouts when the weather gets hot, and people are using more electricity to cool down their homes. But you want to add on the demand for charging their EV? Imagine a home with multiple EVs? Then you have the issue about the long-range drivability of EVs and supporting that. Do we really believe that every parking stall will have a battery charger? If not, then everyone will be fighting for the few stalls with chargers. Then there's the question about battery life and the cost of replacing and disposing of old batteries (which is not green). I definitely agree EVs will flop once the reality sinks in.

I agree, that’s sadly the “game” you have to play with Porsche - which I can’t afford/ don’t want to do. 😪 No doubt the emira will be an awesome car for you to own mate and hope you have many happy miles with it!

Porsches look ugly. This is no exception. Should have waited for the supercar looking Emira. Just comparing the side intakes makes the GT4 look like an everyday ordinary car.

Such an old car, looks so out dated. The tech looks like it comes from the arc. the rear lighting could have come from a car 15 years ago. I have ordered the EMira, I agree with a lot of your points but if you think that'll get more looks than an EMira you haven't watched enough KZbin.yet IMO
