@@goddammitalanaThat is unfortunately dangerous rhetoric when you're talking to someone who has struggled with delusion/hallucinations, schizophrenia is real but the things within it aren't. I know the intention was good, but blurring the lines between spirituality and psychotic disorders can be pretty dangerous, even though it's usually meant as a "but it's okay, you might not be mentally ill and we just don't understand what you're tapping into" type of thing.

My education on Schizophrenia was that my grandfather had it and spent his adulthood in a straight jacket until he "killed himself." So growing up, my siblings and I were worried any time we had a fever or bad reaction to meds that caused hallucinations. Later, we found out my paternal grandfather did not willingly end his life. He was a war vet, and began drinking until a car accident ended his life. That was their version of "killed himself." Even the documented cases in the past are very skewed due to post war PTSD and drug/alcohol abuse... all of which changes behavior and may have changed one's diagnosis in the past.

Im so sorry to hear this happened to your grandfather and your family. My mother had a raging bad temper and a short fuse and so her adopted mother began telling everybody from the time my mum was 13 back in 1971 that she had schizophrenia and continued to do so for the rest of her life, so many people just assume and have used this illness as a "all purpose" diagnosis for anything behavioural that they didn't understand. I hope you all have been able to move forward from the worry of possible onset schizophrenia now that you all know the truth. ❤❤

Statistically speaking single car collisions are overrepresented in car accidents and many are most likely acts of self harm. If you hear about a single car collision, spare a thought that it may have been a fatal depression.

I learned about schizophrenia when my roommate (with epilepsy) had a schizophrenic episode (which turned out to be mold toxicity from rummaging through her storage unit for an extended time.) I've seen another KZbinr with schizophrenia document constriction of his pupils but my roommate's pupils were so big you couldn't see the blue of her eyes. She was paranoid and was seeing floaters in her vision and getting confused about memories getting mixed up about who the memories involved, accusing people she had met later in life for things that happened in her childhood. It was just the pure look of fear on her face that stood out to me the most.
@ninetailskwami
@ninetailskwami 3 ай бұрын
as someone with schizophrenia, i've never heard that it can be caused by mold. are you certain that you mean schizophrenic episode, and not psychotic episode? mold is well known to cause psychosis and people without schizophrenia can experience psychotic episodes from it or drugs or a lot of things, but its not the same as having schizophrenia.

My neighbor is schizophrenic and she yells at us everytime she sees us outside. Shes yelled about siphoned gas, someone goin in her house stealing food out of her fridge, accused us of recording her, stealing her flowers, she purposely set of her car alarm and let it blare until the the car died, apparently law enforcement are aware of this and she did it to the previous owners of our new home as well. No one can get her help because she doesn't seem to want it. It is heartbreaking to know and scary to watch. Many neighbors do not even go outside anymore because of her antics. I think schizophrenia affects people differently and that education on schizophrenia isnt as common or detailed as it should be to the general public.

Nobody knew my dad was schitzophrenic until he beat somebody and ended up in a state-asylum. He heard somebody insult his mom, and since he was already 'violent' (read: undiagnosed) he immediately attacked them. He blacked out and next thing he knew he was in a straight jacket, and then he was diagnosed. Its scary honestly how 'random' it can occur, because its so hard to tell if somethings a hallucination or not.

I grew up being bestfriends with an adult with schizophrenia. So, I got to learn quite a bit. My second oldest brother is schizophrenic and I'm pretty certain I'm schizoaffective, just need to be diagnosed. But I knew something was wrong when I explained a delusion in grade 8 that if I breathed the same air as someone with a mental disability I would get that disability. The teachers made me a volunteer for a class for disabled people with mental disabilities and to tech them squaredancing. It was awful but I lived and was like "wait.... somethings wrong here...."

Ive worked in a Doctors surgery for many years and i am YET to meet anybody with schizophrenia who actually KNOWS they have schizophrenia before being diagnosed, its not an illness that allows you to be self aware enough to realise something is wrong, but like MANY other mental illnesses people get on medication then they start to feel better and so stop taking their medication and end up relapsing, then it will take X amount of time for them to get help again, get back on their meds.... wash and repeat, its so important with any illness to always stay on your meds or at the very least speak to your health care professional. ❤❤❤❤

I think that might be more than I learned in high school about anything but depression. They were very worried about teenage girls and depression, and related issues, in the 90s when I was in school. It really should be a basic part of public education for every kid. Just some basics about various warning symptoms to at least know to get checked out. I would love for everyone to have a basic understanding of the human body and about both physical and mental common health conditions. Even in my psych undergrad, we only had like one abnormal psych class available until Masters level. So, I barely learned anything about it in my formal education at all. I have learned about it just out of interest on my own. I’ve just always been fascinated by how different people experience the world. Thanks for sharing so much of your own experience on your channel. I think it’s so important to raise awareness and lower the stigma, especially around certain conditions. I really appreciate what you’re doing! :)

I strongly believe the basics of psychology need to be taught in highschool. The main things people are likely to encounter in themselves and the world around them. Things like mental disorders- mood, psychotic, personality, etc, types of dysphoria, disassociation, eating disorders, grooming, abuse dynamics, burn out, neurodivergence, intergenerational abuse, etc etc etc Its not that hard to cover the bases and help countless people.

He is a sweet, innocent, Christian man who wouldn't intentionally hurt a fly but makes people incredibly uncomfortable with the way he acts. I dont think it's a school's responsibility to teach children about every possible mental illness during health class, but to highlight to children what is abnormal so that they are ablento asl for help

I actually think they should do that, because it is very likely that they will suffer from them or a close relative. They should talk about the big ones like depression, mania, schizophrenia, borderline, ptsd, psychosis and autism. And even if they don't have it and non in their family will, they will have encounters with people, which are in a crisis and its just best to know what is going on and to know if that person is dangerous and if it is an appropriate response to act afraid.

Yeah, hs education typically focuses on extreme cases and the consequences rather than understanding, like most things, there is a spectrum of different behaviors and intensities that occur in individuals with schizophrenia. Also with time, the health care system is getting better at diagnosing and identifying troubled behaviors. It’s not perfect but we’re working to get better and I hope this info gets into hs classrooms

Maybe I went to a really good high school, but I knew other symptoms or schizophrenia. My best friends cousin was diagnosed schizophrenic and he shot and killed his sister and a man she was with, while they were watching TV. He put their bodies in a trunk to be found days later. He was found to be able to stand trial and was sentenced to like 50 years in prison. But we were taught of the paranoia, delusional thinking, like God or the devil speaking to them. Hearing voices. Thinking people are out to harm them, or harming themselves because the voices tell them to. Unmedicated people will suffer serious delusions thinking the CIA is after them, they bar their windows shut. Depends if you're properly diagnosed and taking medication, or stop taking medication and the delusions and voices become extreme.

I want to share a story I heard about my great great Aunt Marie Poutz. She was a Theosophist. The family story goes that she and a couple of theosophist friends would visit mental asylums because they knew that a certain number of the patients there were not ill, but rather had entities attached to them, not in a good way, or the patients were clairvoyant or clairaudient and could hear spirits from the other side. If the patients worked from a lower energetic level because of fear, sadness, etc, they attracted lower entities. Tante Marie and her theosophist friends would work to help those patients. It seems to me that it would be worthwhile to check with a psychic, a clairvoyant, a medium, etc. to rule out this possibility for anyone diagnosed with schizophrenia. It may truly end up being a brain dysregulation, but it's worth ruling out some spiritual connection that the patient and the patient's family can't see.

Not everybody is a mental health professional. If your getting lessons in mental health in school, they should be covering this topic better than this. It’s not like some obscure thing either

I have no intention of being rude, but can I ask how old you were when you found out you were Schizophrenic? My son has it, and he was young when we started noticing symptoms but had never had a psychosis episode, so they would not officially diagnose him. he struggled for many years without medication.

Even though both of my sisters biological parents were schizophrenics it took until her late 30s to finally get a diagnosis when she went into a psychosis after giving birth. I had known for years but she was convinced she didn’t and was able to hide it when she spoke to doctors. I mean she still denies she has any form of mental illness

@@asacowherd4860 well considering none of you know my sister, or me, that there’s no way for you to identify my sister and that she will never ever know about it there’s absolutely no way for it to harm her.

At the age that schizophrenia is diagnosed, most people can't spell the word, never mind use it correctly.

Um schizophrenia is diagnosed most often in early adulthood so not sure if you're implying adults can't spell or if you think they're diagnosed as children ???

This makes it sound like it's somehow the schizophrenic's fault. Not a new thing for the church to claim.

I hope you can answer my question. Every now and then I hear my name being called. It's a familiar voice. Once it was my deceased grandmother once it was my deceased spouse and sometimes it's just a familiar voice I can't place. Is that schizophrenia? It happens every now and then. Just my name nothing else.

Its pretty common to hear your name being called bc your brain is already used to hearing it so sometimes it mishears things or you did hear someone call your name but they were just referring to someone else who has your name.

No. It's not. They call your name because they are not truly dead. They are alive with their astral bodies and they live in the astral plane.
