This video is interesting the only reason I watched through it was because this guy has amazing personality and how he looks into the camera so confidently. Other than that all his points are either invalid or have a semi truth to them such as the hardware, sure lower chips aren't gonna be able to do complex video editing. If you're doing hardcore video editing you should be getting the max chips it is x10 more expensive but that's the cost. Also to point most of his augments stem down to "It's not the same as windows" okay? what you expect a whole OS built by another company to be exactly the same as windows? im sorry but what the fuck is he expecting? keyboard shortcuts are slightly different takes a week to get used to them. And the os doesn't take long to get used to the first few days will be sluggish. His only valid argument was that the software he is used to using may not be made for macOS/ or has to buy a new copy other than that he''s got nothing.

As one that just did a similar upgrade have to mention a few things that are worth considering. 1. your Motherboard BIOS upgrade - DO it 2. the PCIe setting that you should have on Resizable BAR. Try to enable it, could possibly improve speed 3. RAM - make sure you use an XMP profile to bump speed to 3200/3600 whatever your ram can do 4. Windows 11 2H updates had some optimization for our "old" CPUs you might want to be up to date on that 5. Your case ventilation will affect the performance of all crammed parts in there, temps will force them to throttle back. Slightly positive or negative pressure is what you want. And enjoy! I was in a similar place, PC forever, mainly because I could upgrade it whenever I wanted to, but then when I had to upgrade my GPU, the video card was more expensive than buying a brand new Mac M2, so I finally made the switch, and I have to say, It’s been a great move. I’m somebody who definitely always advises people to stick with what they have, but when the upgrades begin to be more expensive than moving to a computer that has been proven to just work, it just finally had me make the move. But I totally understand why you would want to stay with a PC because of all the muscle memory, and the usability of windows. But for me personally, Once I switch to the Mac, I don’t think I’ll ever go back. It has been flawless for all of my professional work. Took me about two weeks to get my muscle memory together, and it was smooth sailing from there. Having said that, I still think a PC is an awesome way to go, Purely for the flexibility. No longer is a PC more powerful than a Mac though. That’s an old way of thinking. I look forward to seeing what video card you get, because as you get faster ones, more powerful ones, they become extremely expensive. And Reason? For example FinalCUT, if you need more GPU for DaVinci, you should look towards Macbook m4 Max, or wait for the new Studio on m4 max/ultra. It seems to me that there will be no transition to MacOS on this channel, because judging by the current configuration of the computer a new top-end Mac is simply not affordable. I built a $6k pc in 2020 (24 core threadripper, 3080 GPU, 128GB ram) and later that year I got a M1 Pro Macbook pro (16GB ram) just to use occasionally for editing out of office. Once I realized that the $2500 MacBook was faster than my PC I started doing all my projects on the MacBook and am still using the M1 Pro MacBook as my main editing rig while my $6000 PC collects dust 😢 The only thing it has trouble with is multi cams with 4 (4k) video streams playing back at once....or trying to go 2x speed in multi cams with 3 (4k) camera feeds. I also shoot in Sony HS codec which is h.265 so it's understandable. I think you would probably be very happy with a M4 Max, or a base M4 Ultra Studio when that comes out as that will have options for beefier GPU effects. And yes, when you are ready to upgrade you do have to buy a whole new system with Mac but the good thing is that they last for a very long time. Like I mentioned, my M1 Pro is still doing great almost 3 years later. Also, I should mention for anyone wondering, I (unfortunately) use Premier Pro, so I could probably get better performance results in FCP or Resolve. Your experience may vary. Switching to Mac after years on Windows did take a lot of getting used to but now I do actually love it. Current system is a 3950x, with 64gigs of 3200, 1000watt power supply, and 3080TI. And instead of upgrading my system components these last few years, I’ve focused on storage instead, which is future proof and will upgrade nicely into the next system. The other issue I have is that I have a goldielox MB, and haven’t found its equal in modern updated boards - MSI x570 Prestige Creation. My entire setup is build around the number of ports and the 10gig ET it provides for a massive number of external storage connection options. No idea why they didn’t make another one.

The learning the new mac system does take about a week to get used to and if you switch back it takes time to learn again.... but it's never that much but other things in mac does make you hate a dumb windows is at time... the closing the thing and something still being open in the background is annoying until you learn it... but another thing is if you have programs already on your PC or your Mac and you switch to the other you need that system version of everything... either way you are in a cult which ever one you chose... if you are starting again from scratch then a I would suggest a mac myself and have a PC for fun stuff... the time it takes to get use to how a mac works VS how well it works after isn't that much of a thing... fortunately the only thing Apple do right enough is their computers and only for professional use, don't switch also if you are someone that does a bit of stuff and the rest of the time you are gaming and pissing about... Apple computers are a business computer choice.. they have been dickheads with the not being able to switch SSD's and RAM, something that annoys me when I will buy, but a part of it is not having the terrible problem windows has with systems being so unstable... but for your Channel, it's about fun more than anything so your best remaining with the same... I saw one the MixBusTV guy switch to mac recently, but he's making thousands a day from the studio so could afford to switch systems and get the plugins switched also and prefers it now... but again this is a professional studio that is only doing the studio work... for audio. Mac is better for latency so it is kinda better... but to have to thought that one or the other is actually is brainwashed mentality ironically when the premise is to get away from cults... where a mac might have suited you is if you then made a editing suite to edit other videos all day and that was your new bunnies but you still wanted to come home and be creative you might get a mac for that editing suite but keep a PC to have fun at home and do whatever and work with all your own programs... the premise that you wanted what was best for editing brought up the "get a mac" but the premise of course included a lot more than just the question "what was best for editing"

I've been a Mac user for decades. When we opened a new partnership in live streaming during Covid, I quickly discovered that while I like Mac better and hate Windows, it was impossible to deny that in the world of live streaming, PC was far ahead of the Mac. Today we own 10 PCs and four Macs. I still edit on Mac using Resolve, but when it comes to live streaming, we are big fans of vMix, a PC only live streaming program. It's a truly amazing tool and it will never be available on Mac. I built a $15k hot rod rack mounted PC desktop for live broadcast and live streaming and we have a pile of PC laptops that we use for smaller jobs. It's pretty juvenile to indulge in Mac versus PC wars and pointless. Both have their strengths and weaknesses and building my high end PC was fun and interesting. I can input up to 8 1080 sources and 4 UHD sources with two BMD cards in the high end PC, I don't even think that would be possible on Mac. OTOH, mandatory WIndows updates are evil and constantly break drivers on all of the PC programs and we have to scramble to fix it, typically on insane deadlines. Microsoft is probably more evil than Apple overall, but IMHO, both companies suck hard, but its what we're stuck with. At least the Mac OS updates aren't mandatory and you can choose when and if you want to do them, unlike evil Windoze. I still love using my MBP M1 Max for editing and I am typing this on my daily driver iMac i9 27", stupid Apple no longer offers a 27"" iMac, pricks. In the end, they're just tools and its what you can accomplish with them that matters. As far as the updating versus buying a new computer, I will say that overall, my Macs have lasted longer than my PCs, we have to dump two laptops soon that won't be upgradeable to Windows 11 and support and anti-virus updates will discontinue for Windows 10. OTOH, my other 27" iMac is a 2017, still works great and this one is a 2020. Recently updated the hot rod PC with a new CPU cooler but kept our old GPU, the NVidia Quadro RT 5000 as it handles the live switching stuff just fine. Mac versus PC, in the end, doesn't really matter, at all.

No, I don’t want to see a 1/8 sliver of my desktop at all times and no, I don’t want to lose my taskbar just to maximize a window. My Windows editing PC is 8 years old and I still use it and upgrade it all the time. Hey, I'm an old audio guy and have built my Windows PC for over 30 years, the last one three years ago (AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 64GB), but now I switched to a Mac mini M4 Pro. You are right on so many points, MacOX stands in my way many times. Even for an equivalent to ctrl-x, I had to buy an App. WTF? You also are right about the point of keyboard commands, they have burned into my brain for over 30 years now, and it's hard to relearn, especially if you are 59, like this old man here. :-) Also you are absolutely right, the lack of IO ports makes a docking station essential and this clutters up your desk like f*ck, and the Apple taxes for extra RAM and internal SSD are absolute robbery. And this f*king power button on the bottom of the case? Form follows function, Apple! Not the other way around. On the other hand, real-time audio in my DAW on MacOS is buttery smooth, I never had such an (audio) performance on Windows. No fiddling around in the registry and dark sides of Windows anymore, to get a stable audio performance with low latency and without any bleeps and bloops. That's really great for my daily work. I've been in Dolby Atmos Music for a year now, my old PC wasn't able to run a 9.1.6 immersive reverb plugin, it just sucked the life out of my 5950X like a vampire. On the M4 Pro, I don't have to care about it, it just works like any other plugin.

Good call. Get WindowsManager to prevent windows from opening in front of each other. You can use a PC keyboard on a Mac for ALT/Control. The noisiest thing in your computer now is that ancient SPINNING/SPINNER hard drive. At least spinner's give you some warning before they bite the dust. SSD's go quickly when they go. Swap out your main drives every 4 years because they get better and larger anyway. You can emulate/VM Windows on a Mac, but you lose some processing power/resources.

@NorthernWhisper3 күн бұрын
No idea who you watched to give you the impression that mac gpus can't keep up with windows gpus in real world video workloads, but it's just not true. If you already have a pc, you can upgrade some parts, sure. However, full price pre-built VS full price mac (baseline) right after release and you usually end up with more bang for buck on the mac. Don't buy older machines (M2 ultra in the mac studio for example) as they don't offer the same value now. The one exception is storage space, but external thunderbolt drives are extremely fast and pretty good value so you can handle that later. Another major benefit to mac is that you only pay full price once; the resale value stays high and you can usually get most of your money back for a machine even 2 years later on the used market, allowing you to effectively "upgrade" like on PC. It's different, but not in a meaningful way. Selling a machine to buy a new one ever 2 years is as cheap as buying new computer parts and gives you new warranty for the entire machine. This allows you to also reuse the external drives you bought, so that is effectively a one-time purchase too. All that is to say, macs are not expensive relative to PCs in the long run, if you intend to upgrade every 1-3 years. This used to be untrue, but the M-line of processors are goated. As for needing to repurchase software or relearning hotkeys and so on, yeah that is annoying. This is a completely valid reason to not jump ship, as creativity can really die when you constantly get stuck on the learning curve.

I'll have to disagree with your point on resale value. Maybe it was the case before, but now that they're coming out with a new M generation processor every year or two, the older ones are getting harder to sell. My brother bought an M2 air about a year and a half ago for ~$1800 CAD, now he's having trouble selling it for $900 because the M3's and M4's are the same price. Most people aren't gonna wanna pay close to $1800 on a Mac that they can get new for the same price.

Almost certainly the noise is just your case fans - You might want to take a look at your fan curves if your temps are alright, or if your temps are at the limit maybe you just need either more fans, a better arrangement of fans, or just quieter fans. If you have a prebuilt often times the fans are one of the places they cheap out, since it doesn't really affect performance and also doesn't show up on a spec sheet. EDIT: Also, since you're making a switch from an Nvidia GPU to AMD - make sure you check out a guide on what you need to do when you switch. Since your computer has drivers installed for Nvidia, they can often conflict with the new AMD ones you'll install and create weird behaviour. There should be plenty of videos online about how to clear out those old drivers.
