Why I Don't Buy Sony FULL FRAME Cameras!

I just upgraded from the A7iii to the A7iv and my deciding factor was the 10-bit video. I would suggest picking up a used A7iv over an aps-c camera. Having a full-frame sensor enables more light to hit the sensor and thus much better performance in low light scenes. Not forgetting the 33 mp sensor for photos is just amazing.

@ags911 not really. You have so many cheap options like the Sony 55 F1.8, Sony 50mm F1.8 is like $180, and Sony 28mm F2.0 is around $250. You don't need G master lenses to get a good image. Also, third-party lenses are so affordable, especially from Viltrox

I am in a similar situation, currently own a a7III and have for some years now, but definitely time to update. When I look at the numbers and I can get an FX30 with a 3 lens SIRUI Night Walker kit, and ND filter and still be hundreds of dollars under getting JUST the FX3 body, it just makes sense.

A well reasoned decision. I'm not a camera expert and I look to you and several others for advise for shooting and buying. Last January I upgraded from a ZV1 to a ZV-E10 after much hemming and hawing. I had a tough time deciding between an A7iii, FX-30, ZV-E10 or waiting for the rumoured (at the time) ZV-E10 Mark II. It was your cinema rig buildout of the ZV-E10 that convinced me that the ZV-E10 was the best for my needs. I only dabble in photography and my main use for the ZV-E10 is to shoot my KZbin videos (the ZV-1 is still my "B" cam). I still WANT an FX-30, but the ZV-E10 gives me everything I NEED. With the money I saved I was able to buy a Sigma f1.4 and I couldn't be happier. Thank you for your awesome advice and videos!

I agree, the cost for a FX3 is too expensive, when you look at what competitors are offering. Great low-light performance, great auto focus, good ibis, no overheating, but doesn't shoot 6k, no open gate, no shutter angle out the box and more. I recently heard the FX3 was Sony's response the Black Magic's Pocket 4k, then lower the price like what are you doing making it 3 times the cost? Hopefully their next round of cameras are less expensive with what their competitors are doing think about the Lumix S5II & X, Canon C80 etc.

I switched from the Sony A7iii to the Canon r8 because its a full frame camera with the same specs as the Sony a7IV minus ibis and dual card slots for $1200. This camera is a major sleeper in the industry.

@@Stakleni148 Biggest difference between Canon and Sony is unfortunately Canon doesn’t have near the amount of lens options as Sony. They just started allowing Sigma to make apsc lenses a few months back. Outside of that this Canon is incredible. I’m shocked more people don’t talk about it. Downsample 4k60 with no crop. Awesome Quality.

The only issue is that if I want to buy a 24-70mm f2.8, the only option is the first party canon L lens where as in the Sony system, I can buy the sigma version for half the price. Not saying canon is the wrong choice, this is just my reasoning and my opinion for going for the Sony system! There are no wrong choices, the best camera is the camera you have

I love the ZV-E10II.....I bought it just to make content on the camera (which I have failed at LOL), but it makes a great top down camera and takes good photos for having no mechanical shutter. Youth pastor......awesome! Change kids lives! Worship leader here. You make great content keep at it!

Your giving a reasonable explanation for why you don’t want to spend the money on a Sony ff camera. I personally somehow feel like the imagery seems to not care about the narration, it talks over your narration like „look, I’m a complementary color scheme here, and here too, and here a third time so I would assume that makes me kind of a signature style thing“. And I find myself kind of silently responding to the imaginary „yeah, but the 50:50 weighting is odd, too much in my face“. And then I realize I missed parts of the narration.

It makes total sense to go with apsc camera than full frame....full frame cameras are great but we can still do or make amazing short films or any sort of videos which looks just as great. The cost and other factors definitely helped me personally decide to go with apsc as opposed to full frame

and I'm agreeing with you conclusion about GAS; I've been doing paid work (mostly podcasts and live streaming conferences) for years on multiple a6400/a6300 APSC cameras. They are reliable, produce amazing 4K footage have superb AF, are tiny and light and are super cheap. also, a6400 produces great HLG footage even though it's 8 bit 4:2:0 video. And that's also much less demanding for post production. Overheating is a simple 40mm USB fan fix and a6400 can be powered trough USB as well so, multiple options there :)

Been using a5100s yrs for my youtube channel. Near 500 videos made and I see no reason to upgrade for my use case. I added a DJI Osmo Pocket about 4 yrs ago, and recently a DJI Action 4 (for wife). The a 5100 is still my workhorse camera for video. Cheers

for video and in the price range, zve10 II is a steal even for the new price. 10bit video, great lens options (sigma 18-50 2.8 and sigma trio 1.4 comes to mind).

hey man thanks for the video, and I agree 100 % i noticed your audio is a bit too harsh bc the top is too boosted, I would prefer to leave some 100 hz (only a tiny bit) so it sounds more natural and take away a bit of the high frequency (s sounds, probably around 5k-12k)

FX3 owner here, and it is worth every damn penny. Still a leading camera, 4 years later. APSC drives me crazy cause your lens focal ranges don’t match the labeling of what they say they are. You always gotta do the math, and when you enjoy wide angle lenses, APSC sucks to always crop in.

It’s just something I’ve become used to, doesn’t bother me. And yeah it’s very very rare that I’ve ever shot wider than the full frame equivalent of 20mm. So if ultrawide angles are your need then it can make a lot of sense

I think the fx3 is definitely worth it for people who need it, that’s just not me. Not crying about it, but for my needs, currently other brands offerings for the price seem better as far as full frame cameras go. But each persons needs are different

I also use APS, but the price of the body is the least problem imo. A7iii is cheaper than some APS bodys now. It's the lenses which make full frame more expensive.

Hahaha i sold my ZVE1 for ZV1M2. The issue is FF camera is heavy to walkaround with its 24-50mm lens. Another issue is memory card. That V90 card is so damn expensive for me. ZV1M2 use V30 memory card and it is so darn cheap. Last reason is most of my video is on social media. I don’t need 10 bits or higher bitrate video MBPS. Although i do appreciate higher bitrate video so the detail of the video will be more beatiful and detail. If i ever need to upgrade i might go for ZVE10 and get those 7artisans f0.95 lenses just for the sake of bokeh. If i am going extreme may be Lumix S9 because of its stabilisation. That camera still heavy though 😅 anything above 550 gram will start feeling heavy for me to walkaround. 😊

For me camera doesn't matter its the person behind the camera who matter. I never bought a full frame camera using apsc camera from years. The main advantage for me the using An Apsc camera are - its light weight, compact, cheap, light weight lens, easy to use even for a whole day.

If your channel was predominantly photography, I'd push back. But for a channel that's 90% video, 10% photo, A7iii to ZV-E10 is a very reasonable decision.

I have wondered if the pricing is purely based on what they can get for the software. From a hardware perspective, I don’t think there’s that much difference between models. I paid $1200 for an A7rii and feel good at that price. I am not into paying 3 to 4 times that amount for better ( marginally) software. I have an old Nex7 apsc and the final output difference is marginal too.

I shoot on five separate ZV E10s in a controlled studio environment. They produce absolutely stunning perfect image after color grade (HLG 4K30). Seriously, a snapshot from the rendered video is absolute crystal movie quality in the skintones and dark gradient areas. However... when posted to KZbin it's all banded, and the quality and hard work goes down the drain. So for KZbin a camera like A7S or whatever will only make you (me) more angry.

The only way I have found to reduce banding and the blocks on the black areas of the video after youtube compression is using Davinci and exporting at the best bitrate, enabling "network optimization" and using Color Space - Rec709 and Gamma Tag - sRGB. Give it a shot!

It depends what you need or what you use it for Documentary work needs more dof and doesn't need a large CMOS for that You can shoot wide open with smaller CMOS and a fast T Stop lens and still get enough dof If you need to do a portrait photos shoot with stupid shallow dof style then yes, bigger is better 😂 Macro photo graphy with less photo stacking ? Try m43 or 1 inch system

Get the right camera for your use case and be a d*ck about it 😂Cameras are all so good these days it doesn't matter. Personally I used the A7iii along side the FS series but the change in crop factor was frustrating when investing in and packing lenses for shoots. I now have a A7iv and A7Siii which I think compliment each other perfectly but it's my full time job so I can justify the size ad expense of full frame. Don't knock crop sensors though, that FX30 was really tempting and I still miss the size and weight of my original MFT kit. Some of my best photos are still from that Olympus EM5ii just because it was so easy to take everywhere
