couple quick thoughts: You mention that due to being a one man unit with backup 10+ minutes away, you go straight to lethal for your personal safety. You don't really go too far into details, but aren't there a ton of realistic scenarios where you have to use force now, but aren't justified in using lethal force? I'm not talking about a subject with a knife, or some other reasonably deadly force encounter. What about if you're on some standard call and two guys start fighting, no weapons? Are you going to draw down on them and give commands? When they don't respond and keep fighting do you just stand there with your gun asking them to stop? Or if you intervene, do you go hands on, spray OC, use your baton? What is your risk of injury if you go hands on? What are the odds you expose yourself to OC inside a building? Do you have enough room to swing your baton? If you do, isn't a Taser back at 10 feet away much safer for you than putting hands on with a person who is much closer to your duty weapon? What I'm getting at is yes, having lethal cover is ideal and best practice. But how often are we in an ideal situation? One of the drills I train my students is a transition from Taser to Gun. It's a simple gross motor skill movement that can be done very quickly. Lastly, you mention you don't have room for it on your belt. I highly doubt this. My Office went to Tasers only 3 years ago. When I certified my entire agency, only 5% of them had any experience with one. I heard the exact complaint you made. However today, 100% of our certified staff wear their Taser on their belt, and found room to make it work. Did they have to rethink their duty belt organization? Sure they did, but every single person from the rookie cop to the crusty 25+ year sarge found a way to make it work in their system. Overall I think your video sparks good conversation and there are many issues with single man units in remote places that have to adjust to unique challenges, but ultimately I believe the numerous benefits of carrying a Taser while on patrol greatly outweigh the cons...

Lots to break down here! And sorry it took so long, been a busy time for me lately. Let me hop on my PC tonight so I can hopefully answer some of your questions and statements!

Ok so now I have some time! So going straight to lethal question, Yes there were situations where responding to lethal was not an appropriate option. Often times just voice commands, presence, threat or use of pepper spray or personal knowledge of the situation or individual (knowing family members/friends that could talk to the person etc) was more than effective in those situations. As for getting exposed to OC indoors or out, it's going to happen. That stuff is nasty, which is why I carry the gel formula, less gets into the air and stays on target. A taser would be a great addition for many situations, but due to department policy, and my situation at the time of this video, the taser was not a viable option. I do work at a new agency that trains on and deploys tasers in 2 person units. As for room on my belt, I currently still do not carry a taser since I need to be recertified. But I have been talking with our training staff and finding alternative equipment, and discussing a change in setup to accommodate a Taser or other less lethal. I 100% agree that the Taser is a fantastic tool to employ, I also agree that I can find a way to integrate it in my current system. But at the making of this video, I was at a different agency that just did not allow for its use due to the officer situation and the department policies that are in place. But thank you so much for the comment and making me think! This kind of stuff lets me reevaluate myself, my training, and my thought process. Stay safe out there.

10 minute back up wow man cops are privileged I am a armed patrol guard in texas austin I had a gun pulled on me straight to my face gun was not loaded I fought the guy to the ground yelled for help eventually was able to draw my gun guy ran off PD pulled up 30 minutes later all's for 18$ an hour but I'm just a retar guard like the cops said by the way the guy was drunk and all I was going to do was ask him to turn his lights off and go inside he was intoxicated and hard liquor muscle

I think a Taser is great in these situations where Meth Joe throws a tantrum and you don't want to go hands on. I think the lethal/less lethal combination is perfect if the suspect has a deadly weapon like a knife. You obviously never go Taser vs knife, but in an ideal situation, you have lethal cover for non lethal options first. But I think even as a single officer without backup, the Taser fills that gap between you going hands on or trying to smack someone with a baton who is not armed with a deadly weapon and these situations where you have to draw your firearm because a deadly weapon is involved.

kind of a weird reason. idk i think caring a taser is important even more so when you are alone. I rather not throw hands with someone

I’m a police officer in West Melbourne Florida our agency carry’s the black Taser X26p with the 25” cartridge and we all have the extended battery to hold a second 25”cartridge we all keep our Taser’s on the light and laser combination if you haven’t seen a Taser x26p Google Taser x26p and click on images

I actually just did a video on the X26P, I'll be uploading it in a few days

Thank you for your comments. I am in the same boat as you. I am usually alone, with my back up being the Sheriffs department, which can be anywhere from 20 minutes to 30 minutes away. So for me a taser is not always a good option and is usually left in the vehicle.

Hello! Would you be willing to sell it? I'd buy it since it's DOA. It would almost complete my collection of tasers.

I don't get the argument where the perp grabs your (presumably fully deployed) Taser. Isn't the Taser just a glorified pain compliance device at that point? How is that more of a threat to you or surrounding people than the perp wresting your lethal weapon from you?
@JTFActual2 жыл бұрын
If the Taser has not been deployed or has multiple deployment capability (Taser x2) it can be used to disable the officer and gain access to other weapons and equipment that would put the general public and officer in danger. If the Taser has been deployed fully, it can be used for pain compliance, but in the right circumstance can still incapacitate.

Btw I work a city full time and a village part time. So working solo isn't a new concept. It's a mistake not to use the tools provided.

baton with built in stun is good enough

Do you carry one now?
@JTFActual2 жыл бұрын
I do actually, current policy allows for carry and we have enough officers for support and cover usually.

I don’t if that makes much sense to go straight to lethal all the time like that. I get the back up thing and all but situation dictates the amount of force always, carry it and not need it rather than need it and not carry it. Cant go wrong with carrying a taser, I usually leave my OC in the car before leaving my taser behind. OC just makes people panic and flail doesnt incapacitate the threat at all just causes pain and cross contamination. If you use the creating a hazard theory that means you should only carry a gun pretty much because you said you’re always alone and you should always have cover when alone and need less lethal or if Im making sense. You’ll have rookies out here drawing down on irate grandma telling them stuff like this.

Have you deployed taser before

Only in training thankfully, I've never had to use one in a use of force

I'm 14 years old and from UK if copper over here deployed and failed it's baton and batons are useless can't hit people with it like old coppers did hit ems with sticks and Chuck em in the van

I don't blame you. You could get tased with the prongs creating a path right across the heart. That could kill you and it has killed others.

Tasers do not use enough power to kill a health adult. Hence why taser so often tases its own staff. Its safe 99% of the time.

Looks pretty good actually for a home made rig. You're going to want a more secure attachment to the belt. There is a way to make a makeshift holster out of a coat hanger, let me see if I can find a video. If I can't find one I'll make a video.

And a baton, OC spray, radio, TQ, mags and so on. I do have other less lethal options in the vehicle though. We are in the process of fielding new Tasers along with new training and policies.
