Why I Don't Like Anime Movies

Anime movies are a very mixed bag for me. There are a lot of things I like about them, but for every good thing there is usually another 3 that I don't like...

The movie ADVERTISESD itself as a movie about Uta, Shanks daughter who is a great musician. If you really thought that a movie would reveal super crucial information that would normally be revealed within the source material, then you went into a mostly filler movie with stupidly high expectations. You're setting yourself up for failure.

I really enjoyed Made In Abyss: Dawn Of The Deep Soul, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Haikyu!!: The Dumpster Battle, Spy X Family: Code White and the One Piece films. And I will never be ashamed of watching any of them.

I agree the only time where canon movies have been done very well is with JJK 0. Even though it can still be group in with the rest of the series it's a fairly isolated story having just enough chapters to make well paced movie out of and few enough chapters to expand on the original source material with anime only scenes But Demon slayer and Chainsaw Man always confusing with how they went about it. Obv from a financial perspective it makes the most sense, but it also makes everything so messy. It isn't as bad when they're trying to make a movie out of the final arc of their stories, but when they make a movie out of some random arc in the middle of the story that they're gonna adapt into a season anyway???? it just baffles me

Well main thing is that they adepted mugen train into a seasonal show despite having the movie on thier roster since they knew some people would skip seeing the movie. And you may ask, "well if they were gonna make it a show format anyway why make a movie format" And tbh, idk. I guess money, which isnt (and shouldnt be) considered a bad motivation. If it wad then manga wouldnt have shows in the first place.

demon slayer movies are perfect, and its not like demon slayer has perfect pacing, its always 3 filler episodes then big fight, thats the formula. so movies just means enhanced music, enhanced quality and most importantly, animation that will break the internet.

I disagree with Mugen Train, the reason mugen train was split was because crunchyroll viewers would find it as part of season 2 to avoid new people skipping the movie unknowingly that's why it was put together with season 2....plus they extended and re animated some scenes. On the infinity castle, the movie format also works very well coz imagine going from an episode of full blown action then the next episode is them talking in between fights then the one after that is a flashback then back to action.....in a movie it wouldn't feel awkward coz it's just in one sitting and not weekly, that was the problem people had with the chimera ant arc....plus not watching infinity castle fights on theatre would be such a missed opportunity

My issue with anime movies is how long it takes for them to become accessible where I'm from. Barely any of them get imported, if they do it's years after both US and Japan and even if they do this shit's limited to like one theater brand because no one believes in them doing well. Honestly I could probably count the releases in Poland from the past 4 years on my fingers. So you either pray that the movie does well overseas and hope that you live in a big city or wait for that thing to hit streaming AND then for when someone kindly does a fansub. Them importing JJK0 gives me hope but I am so fucked if they don't bother with the Chainsaw Man movie. And there is just no way I am seeing Look Back on the big screen sadly

I agree. I feel like not every anime needs a movie. Canon or not. They can just be in seasons with high production and everything will be fine. BUT! I still do enjoy them. Mainly the canon ones. Obviously. As much as I am excited for the Infinity Castle Arc trilogy (and yes, I've read the Manga), I still feel it should have just be in seasons. Because as you mention, it would be awhile until it hit theaters everywhere. AND in the meantime, fans would have to ignore the internet like the plague, because of spoiler reasons. Once again, I've read the Manga, I know what's happening. But there's a differences between reading something and watching something being adapted. I wanna go in blind. Like most people. Despite Ufotable doing these unnecessary movies, I can also understand why they're doing it. As a business protective, of course. Mugen Train made a shit tons of money. It was the highest grossing film in decades by 2020. During a freaking pandemic, and it still came back with money. So obviously, they want to hit those numbers again, but three times more. And they will. And that's fine. Ufotable actually does care about the series! Everyone there put their time, passion and love into this series! And the animation quality really shows! The pacing and how everything adapts the Manga are really well executed! And again, they are adapting the Manga! They're not throwing random filler movies just to keep the series going as a cash grab. And they could have done that easily. But THANK GOD they didn't! They are respecting the source material. Thanks, Ufotable. My Hero Academia on the other hand...... Okay, yes. Bones does "respect" the source material....until after season 3. When they made the first movie, okay, it made a lot of money. And I'm willing to bet, Bones were shocked and did not except it to make a lot back. So now, they made it a mission to make a filler movie once and awhile. And YES! I said FILLER MOVIES! Horikoshi can say this movies are "canon" all he wants, but they're not. The films DO NOT impact the over all story. You can literally watch the entire seasons and read the Manga without any knowledge of the movies, and you can still breeze through everything. Horikoshi thinks just because he references the films in his Manga as easter eggs, like characters being mentioned, DOESN'T mean the films are canon. Does it effect the over all story? Does Deku and the others talk about the events that happen in the movies? Does any of the characters learn anything from the movies that will be foreshadowed to their advantage? Do they learn ANYTHING new? No. Now, are the movies BAD? Not at all. They're really fun! It's one of those filler movies where you can just turn your brain off and enjoy! And that's how I can enjoy the films! Even that upcoming unnecessary 4th film, I'm going to enjoy it! Because I KNOW it's NOT canon! It's just there to be fun. I'm not trying to disrespect Horikoshi. Not at all. I still love MHA. But these films are not canon. And he secretly knows it.

I mean I’d be totally fine if the anime got slightly worse production value if the filler movies actually had good writing. But 99% of the time they don’t. Im paying to see it, but it ends up only delivering with the production, and not with the story, so in total, the money is not worth it

Maybe unpopular opinion i was really afraid that they were going to make the ds infinite castles into movie triology for a long time and behold my fears came true, to me splitting it into three parts is just going to be weird specially the second one which probably is douma fight and i rather would have taken a 24 ep season then three movie and a separate sun riss count down arc the waiting time is going to be insane for all of this . And other problems

I think the Demon Slayer being a trilogy of movies is a good thing.. for the studio. ufotable has been in debt for a while as well as a lot of studios. Anime seasons usually make the studio less money compared to movies. So i think in the end it's good for the studio. But i hope Aniplex manages to come up with a simultaneous Global release since the Demon Slayer is probably one the biggesy IPs right now

The reason why mha movies looks soo good is bcoz alot of animators and freelancers prefer to work on non-canon movies more instead of the canon show. Bcoz canon shows mostly follows Manga beat to beat and the directors and animators can't have much freedom where as in the movie they can do whatever the f they want and no one can get angry or upset. Plus it's more money and time compared to tv anime. From the perspective of animators, it's 100% makes sense why they would prefer to work on them over the actual show.

I had nothing negative to say about Mugen Train movie it was absolutely incredible and emotional TT, especially Rengoku! The only negative thing was ending Rengoku TT, but after finishing S4 I can finally accept it. Because of what happened to Rengoku Tanjiro was able to progress forward and become even stronger. Well anyway about S5 I would have much preferred eps, because that way (I get to know how it ends, not a manga reader) I get really excited to watch the next episode. To me at least it builds more hype as I am left wondering what's going to happen next episode or the fight going to end. For a movie a lot of stuff will be packed into 1, even if it's split into 3 it will feel a bit cramped. However, its been over 3 weeks of knowing that Demon Slayer S5 will have 3 movies, and I'm kinda happy about it now. Not only do I get to watch it in the cinemas with other Demon Slayer fans (yes I'm 100% going), but I also trust Ufotable like I know they will make something ABSOLUTELY EPIC, 3 MASTERPIECES! Hoping for the best for the 3 Demon Slayer movies :7 !!

The chainsawman movie will be fantastic. Fujimoto writes with volumes in mind, not chapters. So the pacing is fantastic and the arc being animated is PERFECT for a movie

I honestly like filler movies especially like MHA ones because since they’re in a vacuum they can go all out without consequence in the movies. They’re just for fun. I’d rather watch this than a canon movie because then I have to go out of my way to keep up with the anime’s I like. Tho I do agree I wish it didn’t affect the animation at times imo it’s not that huge of a deal.

mugen train had a similar pacing to the main series, and if we consider the number of pages adapted and how long the movies were, it wasn't that different from jjk 0 either. but, it's very likely the trilogy will have a faster pace compared to the rest of the adaptation. also, if the special screening of the hashira training arc, which is not even a movie, premiered in over 140 countries just in february, it's very likely they'll do the same with the trilogy. from what i've heard they might even do a global release, with the movies debuting at the same time all over the world. either way, the wait shouldn't be that long.

The mugen train movie did not have similar pacing to the anime AT ALL, in my opinion. The way Demon Slayer and all manga is written is by using chapters. A manga chapter has their own pacing and structure, so when you take a bunch of those and put it in to one larger story, without trying to change anything, the pacing feels really weird

Genuinely I’m not a fan of canon anime movies when it’s manga first then movie, cause the movie takes time to make it over seas and I don’t like how studios would just chop up the movie into episodes for that current or next season Plus a movie always have to condense itself for run time. Folks hyping up the potential chainsaw movie but I’m thinking how much the arc will get condensed for run time And One piece movies boarder between canon & non canon. To the point that actual characters and things would only be released in the movie. Apparently ONLY IN JAPAN! Yeah i couldn't disagree more. I love anime movies, especially the canon ones. The mha movies, the demon slayer movie, the dbs movies, the spy family movie, ect. And the ones that i don't love as much tend the be the 'filler' movies, but at least their enjoyable to look at when it comes to the animation 🤷. I cant wait for the CSM movie and the eminence in shadow movie, ect. Also whats with all the demon slayer and mha slander? 🙄

I mean i rather demon slayer to end with the movies than an anime season. My reasoning is cause it'll feel weird having to wait week by week for an episode since this last arc is nothing but fights and by having it in a seasonal pattern itll kill the hype for me. Instead with the movies they can be there for a while until the next one comes and people have time to fully digest and see each one before the next one comes out.
