I love Sumter, my daugh & son in law were both stationed there, I lived with them 08 to 16, they retired, we moved back home to San Diego. I would love to go back and drive around for a visit, then take a drive to Columbia. I like the people, the peace and quiet. I am happy to be back home in San Diego, it's where I grew up, my family is here, but Sumter has a part of me as well.

Im a travel nurse who has been in Sumter for 9 months (original contract for 3 months) and I’ve extended my stay simply bc I like it ! I was raised in Miami and what I love most about Sumter is that it’s much slower paced , people are much nicer than in big cities. I’ve traveled to multiple states , and Sumter won my little heart over. But to each it’s own.

I am not a fan of Sumpter but as far as SC people go there are some very good and hardworking folks in this state for sure. I live in the country here and wouldn't think of living in the city. We may not be what you're looking for if you don't like country living but most of us do and we get along with most anyone for the most part. I have seen some of the kindest people you could ever meet helping others and doing for their community's and yes sometimes we have folks who cause trouble, but it usually works it's self out. I wouldn't want to live any other way or raise my kid elsewhere with all the violence and hate we are seeing now just know not all of us are idiots or backwards inbreeds as you mentioned some of us are educated but that doesn't make us better than anyone else. I hope you find what you are looking for out there that will make you happy man stay safe and God Bless.🤠

My husband was stationed at Shaw AFB and we lived in Sumter for awhile. Terrible place! The people were rude and unwelcoming to outsiders, so much of the town was rundown, way too many places became dangerous at night, white and black people do not hide the fact that they hate each other. I’m white and worked with a lot of black women at a daycare. I was told they would not be friends with a white person and when the owner was gone all the employees would move around the kids so that the white kids were with white teachers and the black kids were with the black teachers because they “cared for their own kind”. And this was at one of the best daycares in town. Drivers were awful and I still think about the ridiculous things I witnessed people do while driving. And I had to laugh hearing you complain about the slow service because we dealt with that at so many places in Sumter. We were so happy to leave!

Shaw AFB is in Dalzell , you should have stayed in Dalzell it would have been a little bit more pleasant for you. That's what I did . Only went into town to shop and all . My wife loved Dalzell . We own a house on Navigator circle which is right behind the base . Very peaceful and quite .
