That's not too bad, we drove the old 7.3 work van and it kept dumping the antifreeze and water almost as fast as we could put it in. We stopped by a parts store and picked up a new waterpump on the way home. The lack of bearings on the waterpump got so noisy about 2 miles down the road we called a tow truck to haul us back to the shop before the fan went through the Radiator. Spent a couple hours changing it that night and was ready to go for morning.

Glad you got to that bad water pump before it went catastrophic. I have a 2000 Excursion with the 7.3 and while towing my trailer on a dirt road after the Creek Fire 2 years ago here in California, the pump blew out and it caused #8 piston to crack. No head gasket issues because those 7.3's are tough, but the piston is only aluminum after all. I have RadRover fat tire ebike and they are great. The battery on mine is a 7 amphour 48 volt and it has a 750 watt hub motor. To keep a balance of watts used versus watts in, that would suggest needing about 750 watts of panels to keep up. My 330 watt panels are 39" by 78" and it would be a pretty good sized trailer to handle 2 of them. This is all based on full assist mode. If you are providing most of the pedal power, you could obviously get by with less solar.
@frasergroves84702 жыл бұрын
Here's an idea for the e-bike: Build a trailer for the canoe that will attach to the e-bike. There are strap on wheel sets that could work. Now you have a trailer that can carry all your electrical equipment in and a canoe you can paddle or motor around the lake or river. I'd be nervous about going more than a mile or two on a bike trail and would definitely stay out of the bike lanes on a busy highway.

Sorry to hear about Rye. Me and my little Riley are sick as well right now. Got a cold running around my area. But as for the E bike. Maybe you could show it off as a emergency travel vehicle. So like strap it to your jeep or truck then go out and get "stuck" so you can whip out the bike and charge pack to ride back to civilization! My dad was a field mechanic most his life but when he got his big service truck with a knuckle crane he would put a little three wheeler I'm the back of the truck. So then he could mire his truck getting to the piece of equipment and if he didn't finish he could cruise back to the road on his three wheeler and get picked up. Then when he was finished he would use the piece of equipment to rescue his truck and pull it off the work site.

One channel makes so much more sense. I enjoy the diversity in content!! Looking forward to the ebike. Depending on the style: if it’s a fat tire or mountain bike: load it on the wrecker and use it for scouting calls while the ground is bare. Could be great for exploring trails and like out around the old village and camping with it would be fun!! I really want to see how the power pack and maybe the solar array does for charging it!! Good friend of mine rides his bicycle and ebike exclusively (because he loves it, not any other reason!) and I’ve wondered if a pack like that would extend his range. Could be a neat scouting ride: checking out new areas and trails, especially on the cleanups it can scoot around and scout areas and wrecks without burning fuel and getting the bigger trucks in a tight spot. Lots of potential for a resourceful tow operator and recovery guy!!

Casey, I like your random videos no mater what season. I find it keeps your channel fresh, not being the same thing every time you post a video. Also, I am still surprised that people don't understand how the weight distribution works. You already seem to know this stuff, so out of curiosity I Googled how to calculate the trucks towing capacity and the calculations they give is for the amount of weight on the front axle. The only equation I found was to measure the wheelbase and the distance from your rear axle to the lifting point and calculate the weight using that for both for a wheel lift and a sling it's the same formula. If the formula is the same for both, then both must have the same rear axle and front axle load. Maybe you can try showing the front axle weight of the tow truck in a future video. If that doesn't work maybe you need to get a DOT officer with a set of scales for just measuring the individual axle. Keep up the good videos, sorry for the mini novel.

Good call on not using the Ford tow truck... I had a 7.3 diesel Wich in my opinion it's the best Ford diesel engine Ford ever put on any Ford truck... Although the 7.3 was designed by International, I feel that it was the best diesel powered engine ever made...I had the same issue with the water pump... It wasn't hard to replace but if not replaced on time, it will destroy the radiator...!!!! P.S. CASEY, FORD SUFFERED FROM ELECTROLYSIS... Ford sells a additive that should be added to the radiator every time you flush the radiator... No doing so the electrolysis will weld the passages shut and cause overheating... It took 3 radiators to figure this ou out and the help and knowledge of an old timer radiator repair shop in my town...!!!
