Do you grade your outdoor shots differently? Or you’re applying the same lut? Nice video!
@NigelBarros5 жыл бұрын
Great question! No for outdoor stuff, I do shoot flat and try to get the most dynamic range, there is more highlight and shadow information that I want to keep intact. I typically use one of my Panasonic LUTs as a start and work from there. Thanks for tuning in!

NigelBarros cool! But with what picture profile? Natural with all settings at -5?
@jeffsavilleproductions5 жыл бұрын
Shows how important lighting is. I never would've guessed you were shooting with such a "dated" camera like the GH3. Shows how I and many others buy into the whole "you need the best" in order to shoot professional video. Great job!
@MaximusAdonicus5 жыл бұрын
A good camera is a good camera! Age don't matter if the specs still hold and looking at GH3 specs on wiki, it's a killer cam! And there's two kinds of professionals: Those who trust expensive gear to make them professional, and those who know how to get a professional result from the gear they can afford.

That last comment about not going Log is such a great comment. Doing a KZbin channel is about efficient high quality, if it takes you 8 hours to set up a shot that channel has already failed. So systematised shooting protocols is what makes it viable. Thank you.
@jackoneil39335 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I've been saying that for years, especially when shooting 8-Bit. I much prefer adjusting in-camera setting for the look I want rather than grading from a Log profile but everybody is programmed to shoot as flat as possible and end up with dead, pasty skin tones and ugly colors.
@randomoneforstuff3696 Жыл бұрын
You should watch Markuspix's video on why he doesn't shoot in RAW or 4K.
@jackoneil3933 Жыл бұрын
@@randomoneforstuff3696 Thanks, I recall that from some time ago and I might have commented on it as well. As most video ends up in 8-bit for final consumption he has a good point, but shooting Log in 10 or 12 bit on a camera with that much sensor dynamic range can benefit a properly lit scene, and can save shot with extreme contrast or backlighting.

Me too. You can desaturate and cool down the standard out-of-camera colors later, but you can't repair the mathematically inevitable damage of a flat or log profile.

I only got an upgrade from my G7 to a GH5S a month ago. It's an amazing camera, but even with 4:2:2 10-bit color and V-Log L, it still looks better with Neutral or Standard profiles. (If you don't currently turn noise reduction to -5 in your picture profile, DO IT.)

I've made around 200 videos for my channel in the last couple of years. I never color graded anything. All my videos use available light. I don't have time to spend on it. Color grading is something I do for commercial jobs if they need it, or for documentaries. I never get feedback from viewers about the quality of my videos being bad. I just don't think that the time spent color grading KZbin content has a return that is worth the time spent. Of course, this is up to the creator ... have fun.

White balance off of printer paper is kinda bad, even a cheap gray card will be a lot more accurate. 3:25 You can see that it is too warm and correcting that is the main thing you do in your grade. That is simply because that piece of paper is too blue, so the camera takes that as neutral and swings the other way, making everything look too orange.
@NigelBarros5 жыл бұрын
I’ve found that the printer paper actually is pretty accurate, at least enough. Its the GH3’s color science that is kinda off and shifts towards magenta a bit, I do use gray cards for paid work when I want to have a reference for correct color but for my KZbin stuff I try to keep it as simple as I can. Thanks for tuning in and for the feedback!

Am I the only one who has difficulties seeing the difference when he desaturates the shadows? I notice the image "resharpening" whenever he lets go of the mouse button, but that's it. You can sometimes miss such changes if they're applied gradually. But if you jump between the before and after frames with FF/RW, you should be able to immediately spot the differences. I saw no difference whatsoever.

Hi arayan use manual camera apps to get more control over your mobile camera. You can use filmic pro or cinema 4k app for more control. Use less iso for exposure to get lesser noise. You can also use flat or log profiles in filmic pro app or cinema 4k for more dynamic range and netrual colors.
@13aaryan5 жыл бұрын

I would have liked to 'like' this video, but I feel your colour grading actually made things look worse. I cannot recommend anyone follow your advice this time, but you have made other good videos that I do like. I shoot flat with two BMPCC4K and I would suggest people put in the time to study all the colour grading controls in DaVinci Resolve in detail. I've found grading is not something you can just dive straight into. It takes time to learn.

Tech Gamz you can the same shutter speed at 30fps. The point is that KZbin content is typically displayed on a 60hz monitor. It makes zero sense to create at 24 fps.
@angermasterclass70085 жыл бұрын
Jeff Bourke Genuinely curious. If you think that, then why would Avengers and every other Hollywood movie shot in 24p look great. How are they any different?
@JeffBourke5 жыл бұрын
Anger Masterclass great question. Film is shot at 24p and then displayed in exactly 24p. When you display 24p on 60p monitor, you need to compromise and then double every second frame and triple every other frame to make up 60 per second. It is not ideal but film is created to be watched on cinema. Not you be. IF content is being created to go straight to KZbin, there is no logic to 24p. 30 p or 60p are the correct frame rates.
