Glock recently released their new Glock 48 and Glock 43x which have the most note worthy change of increased magazine capacity. While I do think these are great additions to the Glock line up, I'm reluctant to fall in love. I have collected a good amount of G43 magazines and installed magazine extensions to increase my magazine capacity. Because the cost of these sub-compact magazines is already so high, I would hate to have to spend a fortune in stockpiling new magazines for a shiny new G43x or G48. As I'm trying not to jump at the next shiny thing, and remain somewhat of a responsible adult, I thought I'd take a moment to talk about magazine extensions. In this video I show the +2 Vickers base pads made in collaboration with Tango Down and also the +2 and +3 Taran Tactical base pads.

Truly one of my absolute favorite KZbin channels, John is so good at breaking things down in a way that is much easier for the average guy or gal to understand. There are those of us who are into the gun, self defense, shooting sports world, or are LEO's and/or military and understand tactical/firearm jargon. However there is many who don't and imo get put off by not knowing what the hell is being talked about and that's not good for a number of reasons and that is why I highly recommend his channel and I myself love to watch the vlogs because it's so much more relaxed & not overbearing and it's really awesome to see a guy who knows his shit inside and out share the wisdom he gained from extensive sof training and being deployed multiple times to the "Middle East". Aside from all the gun stuff John is a incredible person and he teaches other things sometimes pretty much by mistake but are just as much if not more valuable than the gun stuff, things like being a good man, morals, respect, keeping your word, being a good father, husband, and neighbor, Civic duty and basically just don't be a dick!! I admire John for many reasons but most of all it's because of how humble he is and his drive to help others!! Bravo buddy you success is well deserved!!

I have 7 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense on my right hip with 6 more rounds in a spare mag staged in my left front pocket. The 43 versus the 19 in terms of wearable conceal-ability is not even a contest. I forget the 43 is there and with the 19 I wish I was carrying my 43.

Yeah but realistically the 43's capacity isn't comparable to the 43x unless you want to spend tons of money putting a +3 extension on every 43 mag that you have. So it's a little misleading trying to sell the 43 as having only one less round capacity. Go with the 43x if you want to carry with more rounds.

I'm surprised there still aren't guys cutting shield mags and 43x/48 grips down to 10 rounds, and no one is mentioning or asking about shortening them. This would take them into the 365 'two finger grip' size.

I had the G43 with Taran +2 pads, but after shooting the G48 I sold it to a buddy. While I never had a failure with the extended mags, I prefer the factory mags. I understand those who are going for more concealability, but I’m willing to trade that for getting a full grip (that’s just me). Also, I was blown away by how good the G48 fit my hard and how well I shot it. Bye the way, that intro was hilarious.

To accomplish the same # of rounds with the 48 I'd have to carry at least two spare mags (the 12rd). *One tip many with 43's don't know is the Maggut(com) Z-spring with follower will allow 7rds in the stock 6 mag. 7+1 in that small of form factor still hasn't been beat.

Hi John! Love your videos! Wanted to ask if you'd considered the impact of the 48 specifically on the market for those with small hands. I don't have small hands, but I have friends with small hands. In the past, the most comfortable (9mm) guns they've been able to shoot well have been the size of the S&W Shield and the Glock 43. There were also the Sig 938, or maybe the Kimber Solo, Evo, or Micro 9. Then the Sig 365 came out, and that went a long way towards capacity improvements, but they all still have at least one issue: Easy to hide means harder to shoot well (if only slightly). Shorter barrel length means less muzzle velocity and less steady bullets, but more important to me is the shot sight radius. Now the 48 has come out, and for my money, it's addressed every single problem small-handed people have. It has 10-round magazines, it's nice and slim, and it has a good long barrel and sight radius. As a bonus, it is entirely feasible to put the barrel and slide of a 48 on the frame of a 43, effectively enabling you to tailor your capacity and grip length for concealment or magazine considerations. Performance Center has also come out with extended barrels and slides for the Shield, and I'm excited about that too. Anyway, just thought you might enjoy such considerations. Keep up the awesome work and thanks again!

I have a G43 as my EDC with a one round extension made bye HYVE, which gives me a 7 + 1 round count! The HYVE Extension was very easy to Install and uses the Glock magazine spring. I chose the one round extension and it give me a full grip, feels great and it is great for my pocket carry. I also recently purchased the G48 because I wanted, what I consider a full size gun for sometime carry on a OWB carry! I'm very happy with both guns and I shoot great with both!

Love my Vickers Extenders for my Glock 43. It felt a little weird for the grip (I had this feeling like the magazine would fall out) but I had no issues shooting it and having the extra 2 rounds is nice!

That’s been my thought all along. The grip length is the hardest part to conceal if you have a smaller frame. If you can carry a 43x or 48, just go for the 19.

I just bought the regular 43 as opposed to the 43X or 48. The way I see it is I can get the 43 real close to ten rounds and a longer grip with magazine extensions. However, I cannot make the 43x or 48 smaller and more concealable.

CDNN sports has 43 mags for $20. I got a Pierce grip extension which is a plus 1 but it's the same size as the normal factory pinky extension mag.

Pearce is awesome, nice pinky grip and a plus one. Not to mention it's only $10. For reasonably priced plus 2 & 3 extensions, at $10 and $11 respectively, check out ghostinc.com. The kits include springs too. Ghost Inc. is popular for their ghost connectors, but they also sell a bunch of other accessories for Glocks. Most of which are reasonably priced, unlike grossly overpriced Taran Tactical equipment. One thing I have discovered is the fact that not all Glock 43 magazines are created equally. My wife and I each have a Glock 43 and each one of us has a factory mag that drops free, the other one does not. A common fix, even on Glock 19 magazines, is to use something like 220 or Emery sand paper to simply sand the sides down, taking care not to round edges off, simply wearing them in and they will eventually drop free. The other bonus is the fact that my magazines drop free with plastic extensions, not having to deal with the extra weight of aluminum extensions. And the aforementioned expense!

Agree on the Pearce + 1, not only is it the same size but it has a matching texture to Glocks grip.

Why do Pierce +1 when you can do Magguts +1? The Magguts system is just a spring and follower replacement. You basically get +1 with no extension whatsoever.

@@vavrespaddr7290 I am with Riley, I wanted a plus one that had a pinky extension, without it my pinky has nowhere to rest. I'm also not a fan of newfangled springs. My backup magazine has a plus 2 extension and utilizes the stock pinky extension. That way I have a pinky extension on both of them.

They do look intriguing. Since it's Winter, right now is the 19X OWB. I can kind of conceal it IWB with my Bladetech holster but not totally. Single stack carry, I have a Kahr K9 Elite that fills that role. The 43X does look tempting tho and adds a few more rounds than what I have now. My one problem is that I bought a 43 when they first came out and couldn't shoot it worth a damn. Other Glocks were fine. So I'm kinda stuck. The Kahr is a great pistol and I'd have a hard time justifying to myself why I need another, different single stack pistol. Nice video John. 👍

43x is the younger cousin to the 19 and 26..sure it may not be exactly compatible.and maybe you dont understand it. But as time passes the 43x will adapt, grow and eventually prove why it's part of the family. Love mine!

Soon to be a felony 10 + in Illinois. Basically if you have a Glock 19 you just can't put a 10 rounder in it. If it will take a 15 rd magazine-registration and $25.00 fee. SB 107 is going to cause a lot of problems. Illinois is also trying to pass an access to your social media accounts before they will issue an FOID card. Everything is starting to suck in this state!

I agree, as a fellow skinny fellow I've been a preferred user of the Glock 43 over the 43x and 48 since the 6+1 capacity is much easier to conceal and prevent profiling through the shirt than the other variants that have the minimal 10+1 in a longer single stack mag. For my backup mag I have the FAB Defense +4 G43 mag extender to give me those 10 round capacity that I can use if more rounds are needed during an encounter but I can still keep my conceal-ability at the 6+1 mark.
