In September of 2020 I chose the Glock 48 MOS as my new carry gun, and made the switch from my Glock 42, to my much larger Glock 48 that December. A year ago I shared with you guys why I chose the Glock 48 over the 43X, Hellcat and Sig P365/XL, and now I'm sharing why I STILL love my Glock 48 over a year later! Since one can't really talk about the Glock 48 without addressing the S15 magazines from Shield Arms...we are going to touch on that too.
If you've been watching my videos as of late I've been sharing about my Sig P365X that I've been working with these last six-ish months. The Sig currently serves as my smaller concealed carry gun for days when the outfit or the environment just doesn't allow me to carry my Glock.

I wanted to only have one gun to carry, but different circumstances require different ways or carrying. Options is never a bad thing tbh. Keep up the good work! You’ve carried a shorter amount of time than me, but I still have learned so much from you!

The first handgun I ever shot was a p365. I had all of my training, all of my dry-fire practice and all of my live fire practice with the p365. I absolutely love it and I am also fun-sized (5,4 120 lb). When I went to the gun store to purchase a gun specifically for concealed carry I handled every subcompact in the store. When I picked up the Sig p365 it was an ah ha moment for me, it fit me perfectly. After I held it everything else felt bulky and big and even the triggers felt like a stretch for my index finger to reach comfortably. Since then I have purchased a Hellcat and a Sig P320 I enjoy shooting both of them but the p365 is what I consistently carry and I'm the most comfortable and accurate with.

I recently added a Wilson Combat grip module to my P365xl and have really been enjoying it. It definitely makes the gun shoot like a larger gun. In fact, while I still *feel* like I can shoot my Glock 19 better, on the clock... they're neck and neck. Just something you may want to try out! (The grip is a little bigger back-to-front which was better for my medium-size man hands) One caution: the texture on the front and back of the WC grip module is VERY aggressive. I filed mine down (slowly) with a file from a multitool for about 5 minutes and now it's just right.

Great video as always! I initially chose and since have been slowly optimizing my G26 as my main carry; SCD, milled and added optic. (Maybe someday some frame mods.) I do love the way single-stack sub-compacts can disappear on my body, but am lucky enough to be shaped similarly to the G26 (thick) and can conceal it well at length. I have goals of eventually running it in competition, but have yet to venture into the local USPSA community. I love to see how much you’ve been able to do in 2 years! Definitely inspires me.

Love my 48. With regards to the mag capacity, the issue is construction material - the polymer glock mags necessarily have thicker walls than the metal shield mags, and so there's less internal space left to stack rounds. Glock could have added another round or two with some modifications to the mag, but probably figured it wasn't worth the trouble of redesigning the mag.

So refreshing to see and hear a true American woman speak about CCW. I can tell you have done your homework and your straightforward responses are on point. I CC two weapons, Shadow Systems and G48. I’m 5’10” & 175 lbs so I’m not a big guy. The Shadow Systems 9mm feels fantastic in my hands with the slight grip angle adjustment and the weight is phenomenal. It’s about the same size of G17 but feels so much lighter. I love the G48. That gun is a WINNER!! Doesn’t pattern and the Shield mags 15 rounders are great. No problems to date. Seems to me you are going in the right direction. Remember, everyone is different, so stay with what works best for you. I served warrants for about 6 years so I’ve had plenty of time to think about the worst case scenarios. My best advice for a fighting weapon is leave 99% of the weapon STOCK. The only thing I would ever consider changing out are the sights. I’ve seen more malfunctions happen when people start fudging around with the triggers. I tried it one time on g17 and BOOM it happened. Never again. Really enjoyed your video. Thanks so much for sharing. I really pray that more women listen to your message and get involved.

It is great that there are so many gun options. I loved my glock19 then I found the shield and I loved that for 4 years. I looked at the 43X and wasn't impressed, then I tried a P365 at a range and fell in love with it almost overnight. More capacity, easier to conceal, and as easy for me to shoot as my Shield. I am totally loving my 365X with the 365 grip module and magguts 12 round magazine conversion. 13 rounds as opposed to 8 in my Shield in a smaller gun that actually fits my hand better. I have the manual safety and cut off the right side. I used the grey 365 grip module and cut out a safety notch on the left side only. Perfect EDC for me.

I moved from a Glock 19 MOS to the Glock 48 MOS when I discovered the Shield S15 magazine. It was important to me that I have the 15 round capability AND the Glock 48 fit my hand so much better. Like you, I added the Striker control device.

Great video. Glad to see you involved with shooting and have done your research. For me, I started with a Glock 23, then moved on to the Glock 43. Afterwards the P365, Hellcat, & G43X all came out. I originally had a Kahr CM9 and older Keltec P11 (12 round flush fit, P365 size pistol) with a horrible trigger and now discontinued. I felt I needed a 9mm higher capacity upgrade. For me, the 365 and Hellcat just felt way too small, and I didn’t fully trust the Sig, especially in condition 1 Appendix carry. I landed with the G43X, like you, planning on just using the S15 mags. I carried and used those and trusted the Shield Arms mags. I was Pro Shield Arms and sold or traded all my extras and kept buying more. Until the gen 2 mags came out. I had 3 mags left, all gave me issues, feed issues every single mag. I was able to trade those off for 3 gen 1 mags, which look to work fine. I had originally over 1,000 rounds in mine, never used the extensions. It’s a bad design, destined to fail. The Ghost MED +4 on a Glock OEM mag by comparison is a much better choice. You won’t have issues with that set up. I really like the G43, but find the Taurus G3C just actually works a bit better for me as a carry pistol. Capacity and size, in the G3 holster. (Keel principal) looks to be my best fit. I really want to go back to a G26 or G27 to see if that can work as well. I would prefer to carry Glock. This G3C just works though. Good luck with your journey.

I was running Shield Arms mags in my 43x for a bit. One trip to the range they worked flawlessly. Another trip, they were misfeeding every 3-4 rounds. Talked to my gunsmith and he said nearly everyone he's installed the mag release for has ended up having it taken back out because of similar reliability issues. It's a great system when it works, but I just can't trust it.

The hyve release is the answer. It's hard Aluminum, not steel, and that's why it's not suggested to use them. 2,800 rounds through the shield mags with the hyve release and no issues. Also you can use the oem mags with the hyve release without damaging the mags like with the hardened steel Shield release

I agree with all of this so much. I bought a p365 first and then transitioned to a 43x. I like the shortness of the 43x but put it in a Darkstar Gear Longboi holster. It’s the length of a Glock 34 but made for a 43x or a 48. Takes care of the keel principle. And man, does a striker control device make everything so much more comfortable. I grew up with SA/DA guns and would like a gadget on every gun I own.

As long as you're competent and comfortable with both guns, there's nothing wrong with having the P365 for deep carry and something a little bigger for regular use. It helps that they have similar triggers and sights. Most gun people have different guns for different carry uses. I always leave glasses, earmuffs, and a mag loader in my bag at all times. Forgetting the mag loader is really annoying with anything other than a 1911 in .45AARP.

Great video!! I love the 48 and carried it for a year or so. Last spring, I wanted to get smaller in shorts and a t-shirt and had the P365 in mind. I ended up going with the P365X because it was optics ready, but at that time, I wanted to keep it simple and also have the smallest profile, so I just kept the x ray sights on it. I recently picked up the P365 NRA edition and have been carrying it ever since. Now it's time to get that Romeo Zero on the 365X, but of course my local shop is out of stock...lol. Back to the 48....I recently had truglo sights installed. It's still more comfortable to draw out of the holster and with the new sights I can pick up the front sight quickly.

Great review. I did a ton of research before buying my first gun last year and got a P365XL. I liked it but felt uncomfortable carrying it condition 1 appendix. I decided I needed to do a deep dive into the internal safety and became even less comfortable. Further research landed me with the well engineered redundant firing pin block of Glocks and got a 43X. Now I'm comfortable carrying as I should (appendix condition one) and recently got a 48 with light for my bedside gun. I figured It's best to just stick with one grip angle so I've become a diehard Glock fan.

I think this is my issue with the 365XL. I've been a Glock guy for a long time now and haven't owned much else but a hellcat which is a little more stout in the recoil dept than I'd like. I think the grip angle and the really consistent triggers in Glocks is part of the reason why the 365xl just isn't really working for me.

I like my new G48. The shield arms mags were a complete bust. 1st mag worked great on my first outdoor steel session with the oem, Glock mag release. So I bought a 2nd mag and installed the shield mag catch and from that moment on neither mag wouldn’t run a full load without malfunctioning multiple times. Re-installing the polymer oem catch did NOT fix the problem. So returned both mags & resigned myself to carrying a 10 round EDC weapon.

You could try the manual safety version of the 365XL. With your drive you could easily overcome the most common complaint of manual safeties, "forgetting" to disengage, through your practice. The XL has a softer recoil impulse than the regular 365 too.

I believe that she likes the grip angle of the glocks as she had been shooting them from the start. I understand I grew up shooting glocks and revolvers. Then I switched to cz and sig and got ride of my glocks. Know I am looking at the shadow systems 920 really what a glock should be. It has different grip inserts and you can get the glock/ sig/ 1911 angle.

The whole capacity mag thing on the Glock 48 and Shield Arms mags is why I plan to carry a Arex Delta or Canik TP9 elite combat. Both of those are almost the exact same size as the 48 but both take flush 15 round mags. As a plus they both have way better triggers.

Shadow Systems is going to release their CR920 pistol end of April. Same size as a G43 but the width of the G43x/G48 and takes a 10 round or 13 round proprietary magazine. It will also fit your G48 holsters and accepts various optics.

Great video, touches on a lot of key points. I’ve been actually recommending the g43, g43x and g48 to most of my friends because of the compatibility of the slides. You feel like carrying a g43x one day but let’s say you have a nice dinner or wedding to go to and don’t want to print? Take the slide off the g43x and throw it on the g43 and printing is no problem. Even the g48 will fit on there. But me personally I carry a g27 gen 4. I feel that carrying is mostly trying to create the illusion that your not carrying. There are ways to completely make the firearm disappear on your body, just gotta test it out and watch videos and read comments and do all the things.

10 plus one is plenty because it was designed for the 43x, but some wanted a slightly longer barrel so they got it. Now there are other companies that make 43x/48 magazines like pro mag and Palmetto State/PSA Armory ( which are great by the way)so shield arms aren’t the only ones anymore, either way, my Shield magazines work flawlessly after 1 year with the gen2 or gen3 version even when KZbinrs are posting issues with them. Either way, I only use the 15-rounders, now they make 10% extra power springs to add confidence and longevity.

In my 30 year law enforcement career, I’ve carried almost everything and still carry different platforms based on what my needs are. For deep concealment at the gym, I’m carrying a Ruger LCP Max. Yes, a 380. While inferior to 9, I’ve been to plenty of homicides where the 380 was used, so that fits the bill.

I understand why you carry the G48 ...with the Stiker Control Device. The terrible and more terrible G48 (or Slimline) trigger lends itself to the SCD. I converted my Glocks to single action, and the SCD cannot work. My wife uses the Shield and Max Shield with the Apex sear. We holster once each day. When we practice holster draws and reholstering we use the Coolfire conversion to avoid training scars of one shot and stop ...and to make reholstering safe. Your quality of production and story telling are really good. Thanks for telling the truth about Glock being stubborn.

I carried a S&W Shield 9-PC (1.0) for a couple years. Fantastic gun. $400 after rebate. 1911's are a real classic. Those tend to be slim. H&K and CZ both deserve a look too. I just got a VP9 and it's phenomenal. Better than anything S&W's Performance Center kicks out, which is pretty good. I've got close to $1900 into the VP9 with optic and light though, so it's in a different category. My Shield+ PC came with a reflex for $900. Happy shooting!

Another great video. I love the striker control device for Glocks. You don't have to have a manual thumb safety to disengage if you ever need to use your firearm when split seconds count and you get an extra layer of safety when reholstering (especially when I carry Appendix, don't have health insurance, and am the only child in my family to carry on my family's legacy). I personally wouldn't carry a SA mag for my Glock 43x (wished I got a 48 instead) either. Even with the gen 2 mags, I still have a few failure to feed (maybe 1-2 every 200 rounds) to the point where I don't trust them with my life. They're still great for range days, but I carry the standard 10 round Glock mags for conceal carry. That capacity could be better, but I love the ability to get a better full grip compared to most microcompacts with an extended mag on it.

@@OceansBane wish that was the case for me. I've been shooting Glocks since I was a kid and know better than to limp wrist at this point. I never had any malfunctions with my OEM mags either. Paused at 30s for an unbiased comment lol… I had the S15’s for awhile, about 10 months. Had zero failures. Never one single issue. However, I travel up the East coast and some states don’t allow 15 round capacity. Leaving me having to rock oem mags with a metal mag catch. Or swap it out each time. I bought the gun for 10 round capacity to begin with for this exact reason. And it’s why I swapped BACK to OEM mags and mag catch. The weight feels better on my waist with 10 vs 15. Sounds minor but after all day long it’s a big difference. Going to hit play. Maybe add an edit below lol. Great videos! Edit: I knew it. I had gen 2 S15 mags. Just couldn’t get around to trusting them. Something I’ve found out is most holsters for the 43x are actually long enough to fit the 48 because of the clip setups. Depends which ones but I know for a fact Tier 1 is one of them. I agree with you on the MOS system. Also wanted to add, I actually asked Glock why another company could make 15 round magazines but not them and I got a response. All Glock mags are made with polymer wrapped around the outside to ensure the feeding lips of the magazine stay shaped. Steel-only mags bend over time leading to ftf or the rounds literally falling out of the mag. The polymer reduces the effect of this.

I carry a Glock 48 as well. The only aftermarket parts I added were Ameri Glo tritium sights. However, when I run in the morning I carry a Ruger LCP. The LCP is the only gun I've found that I can carry IWB with athletic shorts and a t-shirt and not feel the gun. I also live in South Florida so sweating and holster chaffing while exercising outside is more of a problem than colder areas. I'm a larger guy, 6 foot tall 210 lbs and I hate feeling a larger gun rub against skin while running. Maybe some people can put up with it. I'll add that I had 2 Shield Arms mags and their steel mag release and have sent them back to Shield Arms because my Glock 48 had constant failures to feed with them. I'm still waiting for SA to resolve the issue.

As always, good, thorough and thoughtful video. As much as I like my G48 (with complete ported Zaffiri upper, Shield S15 mags and Holosun 507K), the P365XL (manual safety, Wilson grip module, Armory Craft trigger and Holosun 507K) is my go-to when I'm not carrying my Staccato C DUO. The manual safety on the Sig negates the need for a SCD, but it does take more training to reflexively work the safety without conscious thought.

why do you need a safety at all? Carry one in the pipe and keep ur finger off the trigger and in a good holster. You'll be fine its an inanimate object
@RidersRange
@RidersRange 2 жыл бұрын
@@Usicky12 Would you carry a cocked revolver, even if the single action trigger had a 5-pound pull? Probably not. Though the strikers in Glock pistols are only about 85% cocked, that's still enough force to detonate a primer if something - anything - pushes the trigger to the rear. (No, that trigger tab safety won't help you there. It's mainly a drop safety.) And many striker-fired pistols are 100% cocked with 3-pound triggers -- not unlike carrying a revolver with the hammer back. Give me a 1911 with both a user-activated thumb safety and a grip safety any day.
@Usicky12
@Usicky12 2 жыл бұрын
@@RidersRange I’ve never found a striker fired handgun to have a 3 lb trigger or less. Anyways, 1911s are great and you should carry cocked and locked because that is what they were designed for. However, glocks were designed to carry hot, no safeties. If my gun is in a kydex holster, regardless of trigger weight, trigger safeties etc, there is no way for it to be fired. End of story. The most common way people have an ND is while reholstering. All you have to do to solve that is take the holster off, put the gun in the holster pointing in a safe direction and put the holster on with the gun.
@Usicky12

@@RidersRange when I first started carrying I was nervous about it too. So what I did was carry in battery but with no bullet in the chamber. I tried everything I could possibly do (in a safe direction) to make the gun dry fire (you would be able to tell because the trigger would be back), and it was impossible. I dropped it, tried shoving sticks in it, banged on the back of the gun with a mallet. It’s impossible unless the user makes multiple critical errors in gun safety.

@@Usicky12 to each his or her own and I'm not trying to convince anyone, just explaining my preference. I carried a Glock of one model or another for the final 24 years of a 38-year law enforcement career and never had a problem (department policy prohibited single-action pistols), but I still prefer a safety that I can operate and that stays on-safe until well clear of my holster and body parts until I want it to be off-safe. I've never had a house fire, but I keep fire extinguishers in strategic locations and I keep them up-to-date. I've never been in a serious vehicle collision, but I wear my seatbelt properly and regularly. My personal preference is to use available safety devices. Your mileage may vary. And there are many striker-fired guns that are 100% cocked and have really light triggers. Try a Canik, HK TP9 series, and many others. So, back to the original question, would you carry a revolver with the hammer back, even if it had a 5-pound single-action trigger?

I have a 43X and Shield Gen 2 mags one with the extension. I have had them since they came out with no issues from the mags or extension.
