Even though I carried a G19 as my duty weapon for over 10 years and qualified at the top of my class every year, I just could not wait for Glock to put out a single stack slim model! Having said this, after my retirement, I sold all my double stack guns and I now have the Glock 43 as my EDC and my G48 as a sometime carry gun. These slim glocks are a perfect fit for my small hands and I shoot them better than any of my other Glocks!

Have you tried shooting the Smith n Wesson shield EZ ? I used to carry glock 19 for edc but changed to the SnW EZ because my hands have arthritis and it's a lot easier to handle. I put over 1000 rnds through it without any issues.

What a good honest review. Thank you sir. I'm a police officer as well and have been looking at this for the past few weeks. I really like the thin profile and comfort it would have for carrying it. After toting around 20+ pounds at work for 40-60hours a week, comfort off-duty is a big reality. Stay safe out there.

I have both the 48 and Shield arms mags. I’m only 5’6 and this thing in a C&G iwb Kydex vanishes on me. I picked up the 5 rnd expanded mag for my backup mag. These make the 48 absolutely worth it. Remember, buying a firearm and how you carry is a deeply personal decision. Don’t let anyone tell you exactly how to carry and what to carry.

@@HarryManback0 The earlier s15 mags had some spring problems but they’ve fixed that issue. Between me and a friend of mine that has one too we have over 1500 rounds through them and only had 1 malfunction which a light primer strike and wasn’t the mags fault

Kudos for a most informative video! Purchased a G48 yesterday morning, swabbed the barrel, and shot 250 rounds of assorted rounds without any issues. I have many Glocks and this G48 is now one of my favorites, especially, for a CCH. Best of success and good health Six60Four!

As a 30 year veteran retired LEO I really appreciate this excellent objective video. I qualify annually with my LEOSA permit (always using my wonderful Gen2 G19,) and still carry both my G19 and G26 either IWB or an ankle holster. Just a word of caution and advice for LEO folks when they retire. When I retired I realized I was no longer bound by department rules and regs and could edc with any pistol I wanted too. It was kind of fun to buy and try out all kinds of different CCW pistols and guns in general. Let it suffice to say I was/am a hopeless Gunbroker.comaholic lol. Yes, my wife was not happy with me being a member of the "Gun of the Month" club. Then I realized something. Actually a friend and fellow officer (still active) and firearms instructor asked me why I wouldn't edc with the same type and platform of pistol that I had trained with for years. He reminded me that in the S*** hit the fan panic situations when your boots were filling up with adrenalin, you always go back to your training. So why wouldn't you stick with what has brought you this far? Especially if you really had to use it, you are familiar with it, have ingrained muscle memory with it and would be safer with it; and it would also help minimize civil liability. It made a lot of sense. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a recovering Gunbroker.comaholic; and there are a ton of awesome pistols out there,; but my advice is, just as an old firearms instructor's advice is, stick to what has brought you this far. The only thing I am considering, is whether to purchase the Glock 48 or the 43x. Once again, from one cop to another, thank you both for this excellent video!

Great video. Being an owner of the 19 and now a 48, my hand size I shoot the 48 better. I carry concealed AIWB and the 48 is way more comfortable. I plan on taking the same defensive pistol class I took last year with my 19, next month with the 48. I just got 4 extra magazines in today.

Former LEO here. Carried the Glock 19 both on and off duty and still have mine. I'd say if you have no Glock at all, the G48 might be worth a look. But when I compared it side by side with my G19, I just did not see enough of a difference to outweigh the loss of 5 rounds, the ease with which magazines can be obtained just about anywhere that will fit the G19 (not to mention how many I have already), the light rail if I want to use it, and its parts commonality with the G26 and G17. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with a G48, but for me, if I were going to spring for another Glock, it would have to do something my G19 doesn't already do.

Well, my Favorite Glock was my G19 which was my Duty weapon for 10 years until my retirement. I later switched to G43 as my EDC and it still is. I just recently purchased a G17 in all black and I will be shooting it at my LGR in about a week from now. I have been hearing good things about and I know I will like this gun and I might even carry it at times.

Canada here. We only get ten shots in a pistol, by law. Mags are pinned to that. So I went for the 48. It's got a slimmer profile and I am losing no capacity over the 19. Can't carry it under the current legal framework, but I intend to own it for a while. Maybe laws will change and it would be nice to have the hardware on hand. They also have released a black slide version. Thankfully.

Johnny Nimble I hope so. Politicians can’t understand that gun laws only affect good people. Plus, they have armed security around them 24/7 so it’s easy to say we don’t need guns for protection. I have a good friend in Sydney, Australia. He’s quite elderly but is an expert in firearms and is in the Australian Benchrest Hall of Fame. He said the only personal protection he has in his home is wasp spray. He can’t even have pepper spray. Sheesh.

Went from carrying a Shield to a G19, and always with an extra mag. The Shield w an extra mag (two eight round) leaves you w a total of 17. Glock w extra mag, 31 rounds, I will never go back to a single stack, round count is very important IMO. Thanks.

Nice video. I asume at the time this was released the shield arms S15 was not on the market yet. With the S15 it is in my opinion a better version of the 19. Also (personal preferance) i like a smoother grip because i cary with no holster and a clipdraw/tecniclip And the aggresive grip irritates my hip more so i apreciate the smoother grip.

Both great guns!!! But.... That 48 although less ammo in a mag, is the most comfortable gun I've ever carried. Now shield is making 15 rd mags for the 48. Can't beat it.

Bought my first firearm last week, a Beretta M9. Yesterday, with my pay raise and bonus, jumped on the G48. Was thinking of a G19 but broke for the 48 instead. There are two reasons. 1. My Glock will be my main CCW EDC weapon. External open carry will be my M9. Now, I love my M9 and will be getting a M9A3 soon enough, but for CCW, it’s a bit of a bollywog. 2. Trying to get the Mrs to get some trigger time. However, being a bit petite at 5’1”, she has small hands and the weight and especially the fatter double stack grip means she has a harder time lifting the Berreta and wrapping her fingers around the grip. The thinner grip of the 48 will help greatly with her smaller hands and the much much lighter weight will make her feel much more comfortable. These critical factors are what convinced me to get the 48 as many second firearm.

Now they've made it better with the MOS Models. Added a rail and option to add an optic. Shield Arms now offers an15 round mag for it, offers a plus 5 base extension, which would bump it up to 20+1, change out the sights and add some grip tape if needed, and you have a very good option

Great review! As a bonus, if you already own a 43, with the 48 you can mix and match the slides, which are fully interchangeable- thus turning your new 48 into an all-black 43X, if you want to (I did).

Awesome video! I recently just shot my first handgun ever! And it was a glock 19 and i loved the way it shot! And i said that same day if there was a glock exactly like the 19 but just a little thinner that it would fit me perfect because my only issue with the 19 was that i felt like my hand didnt grip the whole handle completely , or as well as i would like! Will definitely be shooting a few other handguns aswell because it doesnt matter what anyone says YOU have to shoot for urself to see if it works good for you

You don't have to sacrifice 5rds, get the shieldarms S15 mags with 15rds and they have a 5rd extension to give you a 20rd backup mag and as far as the light you can add a recovery tactical rail adapter to the gun and put a laser/light combo now.

Picked up the 48 today and put 250 through it. Accuracy is on par with my 19. Recoil is less than the 43 I sold for a 42. It does carry better and feels much better in the hand. Just not sure if giving up 5 rounds justifies the better ergonomics and ease of carry. It does look sleek though like a mini 34. I'm thinking that when companies start coming out with +4 extensions one of them will look better and or be lower profile and that could easily settle the debate. Let's put it this way, if the 48 was 15+1 or even 14+1 it would be a no brainier over the 19. People with larger and smaller hands are appreciating the just right grip.....

The grip on the G19 was always just short enough to keep me from getting a full grip on it, and my pinky would slide off during rapid fire. I tried adding a Magpul magwell and it helped, but I always just preferred the G17 or G45 for real work. I got a "Tiffany" blue G48 for my wife and put some rounds through it during training. It was love at first shot. This is a one of one true fighting pistol that is actually sized appropriately for the 9mm cartridge, and the grip is the perfect length for a full grip that doesn't need adjustment every few shots. Concealed or Sam Browne, rapid-fire or precision, two-handed or one, strong hand or support, the G48 does the damn thing better than any other Glock I've ever touched, and with the Shield Arms mags you sacrifice nothing. Great review.

I love the Glock 48, but the Glock 19’s add’l rounds and slight weight bump upwards ANNND the wider handle/grip fits my big hands a bit better than the 48, a 51/49 split tbh. I do find the 48 easier to conceal at 4 O’clock also. Shooting is nearly identical between the two too. Glock FTW!

i recently purchased my first glock the 43x i held the 48 and it just seemed to be off balanced for me i am used to a compact 1911 and double single action guns so as i pushed out the 48 the sights were way off but when i pushed out the 43x the sights were dead on proving what works for you may not work for me but like you i love that the grip is not aggressive

Agree - I don't like gun "recommendations". If people were robots and had the same size, weight, waist, trigger pull, stamina, eyesight, etc etc.. it would make sense, but every gun is going to perform differently for individual users.

The deal breaker for me is the trigger safety "blade" on the 48. It won't rest flush with the trigger and cuts into the pad of my trigger finger. Many have experienced this same issue. Glad I rented this at my local range before buying.

You explaining how the 48 feels so natural in the hand...FINALLY, the pendulum starts to swing back to handguns that FIT THE HAND. I only own single stack or staggered stack (most are full-sized) handguns for that very reason. I entered the handgun arena in 2014, looking back it was right at Glock's pinnacle and I was the only guy who wasn't after the widest pistol that had to have 17+ rounds. I swear if they made triple stack handguns that held 24 rounds, most people would go to that. Rant over.

Thank you gentlemen. I am a weapons instructor for a LE Acadmey. We use the Glock 19 Gen 4 as our duty weapon. I however carry hot while on the range as the safety officer using a Glock 48. I notice a huge difference in the feel between the two weapons. I only carry the 48 because it feels better on my body. The 19 feels better in my hand. Accuracy between the 2 in a self defense situation isn’t noticeable to the average shooter. As you said pick the gun that feels right to you.

So, I am a newbie when it comes to firearms. I have my CCL and my first carry was an xd 40, I just liked the idea of a 40. That was stolen from me and I finally went back to grab another. I watched a lot of videos on carrying and I was always scared to carry the 9 in fear of the bullet going beyond the target. Anyway, when I went into the local gun shop I was pointed in the 48's direction. I ended up getting it and making the trigger pull closer to 3lbs. While I haven't had tons of time to fire it, I can say I like carrying it more than the full size. I am a heavier set man and it does not jab into my hip fat, even when I sit down, 6'1 278lbs.

I would agree with you when I first started I carried a 40 but quickly switched to a 9 after deciding I wanted more capacity and learning more about bullets, and I truly believe with the right self defense ammo your round will stay in your target just as long as your not shooting FMJ. I have the same G48 and I love concealing it. Its light, slim (im a bit chubby myself) and doesn't rub into my hip no matter which position I carry it in. I also added a +2 mag extender which dosent print as much as I thought it would. Perfect for everyone anyway wear and carry.

Not sure why some folks went out of their way to harass the reviewer because he is a cop. Nice review, and appreciate the sensible reason to carry the 48 - "comfort". I guess the best gun you have is the one you'll carry. Recently at the range I shot the Shield, P365 and the 43x. Strange, but I shot the 43x best - tightest groups and the mag release was the easiest for me to manipulate. I guess it's all personal, I went in thinking I would like the shield or maybe the P365 best - go figure.

Glock 19 is my favorite pistol for sure. I just fired the Glock 48 last weekend and I felt like I shot almost as well as I do with the Glock 19. I felt as though I could probably make the jump to every day carry with it whereas with a Glock 19 I just can’t get that much metal and plastic to be hidden on my body. I was excited because I’ve shot smaller pistols before in my accuracy with straight out the window but not with the G 48. I’m pretty doggone sure it’s gonna be my next purchase

Great review Six, regarding the port underneath the front sight, do you know why Glock did not extend the recoil spring and guide rod to accommodate for the longer slide?

With all due respect, the hole on the bottom of the slide is not a port -- as no gasses come out of it. It is a "round hole" (as Spyderco calls their feature) so you can easily change out the front sight.

I love my 48, runs well and I don't modify my weapons ever. Just my personal thing, but I keep the 48 at my 4 o'clock and it's just comfortable. Like it better than my 17, 19, or 43 and 43x.

Just picked up a G48 and sold my G26. The only thing I liked about the G26 is that you could use G17/19 magazines. Other than that, I hated the short chubby grip which would pinch my finger every time I shot it. The G48 is a single purpose gun. I think of it as a get myself out of trouble vs a get myself deeper in to trouble weapon. I carry an extra magazine which gives me a total of 21 rounds. I'm sure that 99.9% of the off-duty situations I could find myself in, the G48 would be enough. I find the G48 to be the best feeling Glock that I have ever shot. I was surprised how tame it is for its size. If I felt I needed more, I would just carry a G17/19/45 and be done with it. I find the G48 easier to conceal than a G26. In the end it came down to the grip size/feel, which gives me additional control vs the chubby G26 grip. I also like the G42 for micro carry. For duty carry, a G/17/19/45 with a G26 as a back up just makes sense.

I'm 5'8" and 160 lbs. As a smaller framed shooter with smaller hands the G48 is a home run for me. It's relatively thin and lightweight, easy to carry, and it fits my hands perfectly. Nothing against double stack 9's like my Walther PPQ M1 which is an outstanding handgun, but there absolutely is a role that this gun fits into that others don't. Thank you Glock for making a concealable yet highly shootable 9mm!

I'm going to go out on a limb here: I just came by to see what a law enforcement officer had to say about the Glock 48, as I had just bought one a few weeks ago when I was really looking for a Glock 17, or 19. I felt the review was really honest, and overall a good review. And then I looked at some of the comments. My oh my, sigh ............ Look, there are officers and counties that truly suck, and are truly corrupt. It is true that some officers turn a blind eye when corruption happens. When those things happen, they should be held accountable for those actions. I can only speak for me, but my experience is that the majority of law enforcement officers are trying to do their jobs, and go home at the end of the shift. Everyday, when they go to work, they have to put up with someone else's BS. They don't know if it'll be their last day on earth. They fear for their families being targeted because of what they do. These are things most of us don't have to worry about. And when something jumps off, who do you call? You call the police. This officer here has done nothing wrong except post an honest review of a firearm, and nothing more. Leave him be.

I never really got the appeal of taking off a 1/2 in or so from the front. I don't ever have a hard time concealing the barrel of the pistol, and honestly with sub-compacts a short barrel makes the gun a bit unbalanced in the holster, and you'll have a snapper recoil impulse. Maybe just me but I don't see any advantage to it. Cutting down the grip length sure...

@@Pub2k4 Yeah, I'm very short - 5'4" short (140 lbs) and have no problem with long barreled carry guns at all. I can comfortably carry a G34 length gun (G19 + Threaded barrel + Comp = 5" barrel length). The problem is with the length of grip and width. If a tiny battle gnome like me can do it, many others shouldn't have a problem either.

Great video, I appreciate the non bias opinions. For me I am a Glock believer and all I own is Glock at this time. Solely due to the fact that I like to keep the functions on all my guns the same. For me you have to have them all or at least all sizes in various calibers. The slim line Glocks are designed for comfortability which equals to more control. I think the RTF grips should be the Glock standard.

Older review, but a very good one, thanks!! I really like my 43X for it being lighter, thinner, and more comfortable to carry than my 19 or 26. It feels “right” in the hand too, so natural. I might shoot my 26 better, but the longer grip of the 43X/48 is amazing for accessing and withdrawing from concealment fast. I’m a quarter second faster with the 43X on my draw-to-first shot than either of my doublestack Glocks. So it’s my choice for EDC.

For me, the ONLY issue would be (as a detective) I carry OWB mostly, so a larger size firearm doesn't impact me nearly as much as it does while off duty.

check out the Sig 365XL Trust me you’re gonna fall in love once you shoot it. We’re talking 12+ 1 standard flush fit mag or 15+ 1 Extended mag. Tritium night sites, flared mag well, flat face trigger, smaller and thinner than a Glock 19. You just have to try one and then you’ll understand. Awesome gun. I would go as far as to call it a Do all gun, Small enough for conceal carry yet shoots like a larger full-size.

I am glad someone came out with a 15 round mag for this gun and I may have used the G48 over my G19 for my duty weapon but for now I am more than happy with the 10 round mag and I will not buy this for my G48 but I will purchase 2 more G48 Mags!

I have a 43 and I was going to buy a 17, Gen 5, MOS but if I buy the 48 I will have technically a 43, 43X and. 48. In addition to that Shield Arms came up with a 15 round mag for the 43X and 48 so it’s a no brainer! I’ll be buying the 17 MOS gen 5 later though!

Just to let you guys know there's going to be a 15-round flush magazine that's coming out from a company call shield arms this company already make a plus 4 extension for the 48 magazine and other companies are coming up with + 2 + 3 extensions. I myself have been carrying a Glock 19 for over 10 years and so I have small hands upon purchasing the 48 with the plus four mag extensions it's like carrying a 19 with 15 rounds but the gun just fit better in the palm of the hand and a better ergonomic feel so I have retired my Glock 19 and now the Glock 48 is my new EDC.

Had glock came out with the 48 years back, i think that would only be the glock that i would have gotten.

I appreciate the input. I definitely like throwing together the aftermarket parts for my Glock, but this was so new I didn't know what would be released for it. Also, and unfortunately, we have to watch what we are adding to our weapons because of policy. Fort the most part, the parts are just fine - you just never know.

I can’t find confirmation, but I was told by someone “in the know” that Sig Sauer is suing Shield Arms over this 15-round mag for the G43X and 48. We’ll see.

No, it is just for access to the front sight screw.
