I was in rock bottom for a few years. A friend of mine was in the same space and our inside joke was “started at the bottom, still here.” Fast forward 5 years I’m a homeowner, peaceful, healthy, making more money than ever before (doubled my income.) we all need places of rock bottom to see what’s non-negotiable in your life and leaning into it despite what you think people will think about you. Once you just drop it and say here I am take it or leave it, stuff changes. Prayer helps too. I bet you’re already halfway there ❤

I’m an interior Designer ( for the past 15 yrs) and I am a certified Social Worker ( worked in that field x 37 yrs) I mention this because I relate to your design commentary, but I also respect you for your personal commentary-- like your video on eating disorders and depression. Those videos and what you shared in them was so valuable and well presented. You really rock!

Just found you and have watched many of your vlogs and have also subscribed. I'm 72, and a retired RN, but have always loved design. (People want to know how I do what I do with my own house.... I walk into a room somewhere and instantly redecorate it in my head, etc.) When I was a teen, Mom said I should be a designer, but it was the late 60's and who wanted to listen to Mom. Well, of course she was right, but my career path was fulfilling, too. I'm still buying and selling houses as my hobby. I love your sense of design. I like how you present yourself. And as the 71 year-old above me says, you're funny, quirky, and interesting! You remind me of me, but I was never brave enough to be as honest as you are. You seem really authentic; not an easy thing to do. Also..... who cares what you wear? My word, don't some people have more important things to worry about?

I will say in regards to "sunk cost", it does need to be thought about what the cost benefit will be mentally. If you have a room with a lack of light and you pay to paint it white... if that will make you mentally feel better every time you walk through that walkway, maybe you're spending less money on other things to try and give that serotonin boost. For example, when my husband and I finally painted and reorganized our kitchen, suddenly our takeout bill went down by half each month because we started enjoying spending time in our kitchen.

In Australia when renting, it's usually a big no no to paint or even add picture hooks etc. I do wonder if anyone has ever asked and had approval, I am sure it's been done. For me, everytime I go to the loo, I get so freakin' annoyed, the toilet roll holder is next to useless and the toilet seat is loose and am sure it doesn't belong / fit on the actual toilet. I've lived here for three years and now thinking fuck it, I'm going to upgrade these items... I can always swap them back and take items with me or on sell them. I don't know why I have put up with it for so long. Does my head in.

"The more I grow, the more I know I am closer to being disliked" I am so glad you are aware of this! I've watched so many growing KZbinrs going through this phase: they get more and more audience, then they start to try to please the haters to a point that they can't see the positive responses. All they care is the mean comments. I remember one of my regular go-to channels announced they would shut down a new series that just had ONE episode aired. "Because you guys hated it" they said it with such a depressing tone. I was so confused because I liked it a lot, and I scrolled through over 10 pages of comments and almost all of them were compliments. So I posted a command asking "who is hating the series? All I saw was compliments" then other viewers responded "there were some nasty comments in the community section". They have so much love but they were so focused on the hate, and that breaks my heart, oh and also makes me feel ignored and pushed away. Please keep being you, please keep in mind you are very well loved by so so many people!! Don't forget you are making video for US, the people who enjoy watching you!! WE are the reason for you to keep going!!! Love your lovers, not the haters!!

@@emilysha418 I live in Toronto. When I started my last job, working , I negotiated 4 weeks off and Friday afternoons in the summer, knowing it included a lot of travel and special events. During winter holidays in 2010, I stayed in, meditated and cried every day, and realised how badly I needed to leave my amazing job so I could do something for myself. Since then I got certified in my current work (healing & teaching). I've made a very successful career of it. I work 4 days a week and take about 8 weeks off each year now. Very thankful I listened to that little voice in my heart so long ago and made a 180° choice to choose myself, while my peers were scrambling to get married and start families.

The hall looks great Caroline. It's amazing what paint can do, isn't it? When my 2 kids were little, and my frequently ill husband was in hospital, I would ask my in-laws to take the kids for a weekend. I would then pick a small room, tape it up, and paint. The physicality of ladder work and tight places gave me aches that were very different from the ones stress gave me. By Sunday night when the kids came back home, I was relaxed and accomplished. And you know what? If I chose the wrong colour...it's only another weekend away from being transformed. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences with us.

Yes! I am 52 and married 14 years. For most of my 20's and 30's I believed I can only be truly be happy being in love and married. And now, I look back at those years when I was single, I wish I could tell that young woman, nothing is wrong, nothing is missing. I was actually happy. I would urge everyone to just live their lives and enjoy it, because in a lifetime, some of us are not meant to have children, some of us are not meant to have a 'soul mate' and yes sadly some of us are not meant to live to old age. It doesn't mean our lives are any less or has less value than someone who may 'have it all'.

I love photos of Europe so my tips for not making them look tacky are: Make them look old or black and white or use the tiniest bit of saturation, and use a watercolour/drybrush filter for some. I’ve found the brightness/levels have to be lightened as when I’ve put them up on the wall they become darker. I lower the midtones a lot and it works. If doing a gallery wall use photos with more negative space or add some in. Use photos with interesting angles and curves for the B&Ws. I usually use a detail of the photo, my family’s photos aren’t great and many are from 1986 but they’ve turned out to be amazing. I take out the crowds, cars, any tech and drains so they look timeless. Last week I took a window out of a photo of Mont St Michel (a room that looks like a dungeon) and put in a view of snowy Canadian pines. The room had a lot of light coming in so it was perfect. I use cheap black frames with custom mats. I also use photos of buildings in Australia that look like Europe and no one can tell.

I used to be certain about adopting at a certain age if I wasn't married. I work with kids and their parents, and now I just don't know anymore. It takes a lot of emotional and mental strength to raise kids well (double that doing it alone), not to mention the costs, and you gotta find an amazing godparent(s) just in case you die young. My father died when I was 13, so I think about stuff like that. Life is a gamble no matter what, and I don't know if I'm willing to take on that risk ever.

It's selfish. If something happens to her, the child becomes an orphan. Sometimes life happens and a child has one parent as a result but to go into it deciding to have a child with no second parent is messed up.

@Harleen even if someone doesn't want to be romantically involved, finding a coparent would be in the best interest of the child. Me and everyone I know who grew up with just one parent dealt with many issues as a result, and I find it annoying to watch a privileged woman who grew up wealthy in a two parent home say she is entitled to bring a kid into the world without another parent because she wants to for HER to feel complete, without any mention or consideration for what's best for a child.

Just to save people some pain: Love is simply a decision. You get up every day and decide to love this person. It's not feelings (Those can change all the time.) It's not sex (That you can work on together.) Love is sacrifice. If you would sacrifice yourself for your best friend, that is love. Also, it's important to know, the person you marry could be completely different in 10 years. In fact, if you join yourself to that person, it's guaranteed. People do not stay the same. They are fluid. Sorry if this bursts someone's bubble but it's best to know the truth. If you "love" someone, define it for them. The word is overused and taken for granted. Before my wife passed away I told her "I care very deeply about you. I want what's best for you. I want you to be happy and healthy and have everything you need for this life and the next. If that's not love, I have no idea what is."

I’m sorry for your loss. I lost my husband in a tragic accident eight months after losing my mom the same way, and grief … it’s with you for life. What you say about love is so true. My husband and I went through some rough times over the years and we both changed along the way, but we fought to stay together because we loved each other. When I lost him, for the longest time I was stuck in a phase of being so angry it was him and not me, and I still say I would give my life in a heartbeat if he could get his back. I will always feel that way, because I loved him so much and he had so many ambitions and so much more he wanted to give the world. No matter how hard I try to pull myself up by my bootstraps and live the life he no longer can, seeing and experiencing the world for him, I’m failing miserably. But watching videos (like Caroline’s) of other people working to improve their lives motivates and inspires me so much. Little by little, I’m getting there. I WILL get there. I hope you’re doing well and finding your way, too. ☺️

"I can make people like my body and I will". Wow! Very strong statement. Good for you if you can see yourself being a single parent. I really admire your candidness and honesty. It is so refreshing to see someone who is so in tune with what she wants. You know what is negotiable for you and what is not negotiable. Some people just do not know what they want or like. I think if you know what you like, you are already halfway to the destination of your "want world" if that makes any sense. I find it way more challenging for those who do not know what they like. Love your videos. I am late in responding to this one because now you are in a relationship with a very nice looking man and I am so happy for you. The two of you really look good together and I think he will propose at some point (if he has not already done so). Many more years of happiness to you Caroline because you deserve it! In terms of time management - I was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me). I made the most productive+lasting changes in my life when I began practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 40-60% effort into my habits despite motivation (ex. Studying) - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on my youtube channel. Giving a small-ish, consistent mediocre effort everyday, its crazy how it adds up.

Thank you for your authenticity on marriage and parenthood. I got married young, but it felt so right. After a few years, it still feels right. It was a matter of having someone good in front of me at the time. I was dating around, but not forcing the idea of marriage on my dating. If there were no good people in front of me, I would not have gotten married. Having kids is the same way for me. At some point, I will feel ready for that new journey and personal growth. Knowing what you want for yourself and aiming at it is so important. I personally always knew I wanted a house of my own and pets/a cat 😺. Children should be for those people who fiercely want them and are willing to make the compromises/pay the price in return for the joys. Also the next best thing to having a supportive and joyfully fulfilling partnership imo is being single with friends and interests. Not settling for an okayish relationship.

I have never heard a KZbinr admit that a gallery wall is unintentional, and it’s inspired me now to take my maybe/incomplete art pieces or frames out of a storage closet and just f-ing put them up somewhere and chill out. Also, I forget what pieces I have and I certainly can’t enjoy them if I’m waiting on an imaginary perfect gallery wall plan to do it. But if you ended up curating even a little more when putting it back up… well we need a video on your edit! You touched on it in the bedroom but this is a floor to ceiling and (I’m hoping) it includes your maybe pieces too. Like who cares if it’s random? As if I have ever hung up art and it’s ended up staying there for years and years anyway! And- the white looks great here. I resonate with your style (read: you are the goal) but I am always trying sample paints of bolder/darker walls (sample paint squares everywhere but my art is in a closet wtf) and I can’t commit. So I’ve been in a beige room with six sample swipes and no art because I am waiting for my perfect plan. You convinced me that it works and I don’t need a wall color I can’t decide if I love enough and will always love THAT MUCH OF IT to drench my whole damn bedroom. Right? Right??
