Hi Kchoi, I am always looking forward for your new videos! and I'd always find great comfort in watching you (for like 3 years now!). You really inspire me to do well in my job even though I am not a consultant by profession but still, I love your authenticity in creating this type of vids! Hope you could create more vids perhaps on project management for different clients? I am working as a campaign manager for an advertising agency and sometimes find it challenging to handle or manage multiple clients with different output expectations. Just sharing! :)

Thank you so much for all your consulting-related videos (and even your day in the life of a consultant vlogs)! I'm a junior in college with a science background - your videos definitely helped me a lot to get to know the industry better as I transition to the industry.

Great video (as usual) and great list! Most of your reasons have also applied to my career in public accounting while serving privately-held middle market clients, especially the exposure to so many different types of businesses and non-profits, and the variety from one day to the next. (Big 4 - not so much.) Still interesting, after all these years.

@@bykchoi I think it would be a good idea to interview someone who does it. I do that type of consulting and there are so many moving pieces and advice out there especially for those who are new to consulting :) Government Clearance, Contract Renewals, networking you have to do etc.

Also, you mentioned you have been in consulting for 4 years now. Do you have any videos available on different types of exits and what that process is like? In terms of how long one would have to be in consulting to successfully exit into their desired field, etc.
@bykchoi
@bykchoi 2 жыл бұрын
I have a video about exit opportunities (mentioned in point #10)! don't necessarily have how long you need to be in consulting to go into that field... but it would be a combination of your consulting experience + other experience you have. Or what type of work you did during your consulting experience.

@4:00 this perk is not true for some consultants compagnies. I work as a UX Designer in France and I need to go onsite everyday. This depends of the clients compagnie of course but lots of them ask that consultants come work onsite.

Do you think travel will ever return? I feel that those perks were one of the draws for new grads to pursue consulting.
@bykchoi
@bykchoi 2 жыл бұрын
not sure! i don't think the type of travel i was doing will be the same for a while (going to clients for half-day to 2-day meetings, sometimes multiple clients in one week), but maybe the type of travel that's the more "typical" consultant lifestyle (traveling to the client side on monday, staying there until thursday/friday). all depends on what the client wants though.

Can you go into detail about what a consultant does? Like giving an example of a recent job you had in change management. I'm still not sure what are the things a change management consultant does; I understand what it means to do (like, the goal of change management consultant) but not the things that are done.
@bykchoi

My vlogs are probably the best for that! I don't ever go into too much detail though.

@@bykchoi why not? Can't you talk about something you did years ago. Or something a friend that works on the same field did? You don't even need to say the names of the companies just be like "company x" company y"
@bykchoi
@bykchoi 2 жыл бұрын
I touch on things in vlogs (facilitating a session for a company about X, or traveling to the client to help lead a workshop). I'm just very risk-averse so I am very cautious about everything I share online in general :)

Technically you're not supposed to work from anywhere as there are tax implications for your employer based on your physical location. Has to be approved by HR before you leave your state and even city in some states.

good point! when i fill out my time entry sheets, i have to mark off where i'm working so that part is covered. i was also thinking about how in many cases, you can get hired regardless of your location. :)

@lookitsnics

You said that there are transferable solutions in your line of consulting since it involves change management. Would this transferability be rarer in other consulting areas like strategy? Since this would be more nuanced to the industry itself
@bykchoi
@bykchoi 2 жыл бұрын
possibly! i still feel like there are only so many solutions and even strategies. but to your point, different industries or types of businesses would have different strategies. I can still see things applying cross-industry though.
