I lived in Asia for several years back in the 80s, right out of high school, teaching conversational english. I came back to America after about 3 years, for college. Since I returned, I've seen the US completely deteriorate. Crime, homeless, inflation, housing crisis, gender, pronouns, taxes, gov corruption. everyone hates each other for one reason or another. Now, I'm retired and leaving. I'm moving back to Asia to travel and find peace.

True, I think this is the main challenge - earning money while in the Philippines. My mom's cousin is married to an American dude and they live in Guam. They moved here for a few months. Didn't knew how it went (we're not the close) but I heard they since went back to Guam after the reunion coz they can't make money here.

Happiness is not about material things or money but a mindset and the culture you were brought up in. Definitely mental health issues will happen if you live in a stressful environment where as you mentioned despite having a good paying job you were still unhappy. Fortunately you had it still in you to remedy your situation. Cheer up now you're now in the Philippines with people who cares. God bless you!

Things that gets into mental health is that when you are lonely and overthinking with no alternative way but only to take it seriously.In the Philippine the life is slow.You can make your happiness by means of nature.Having a little or out of penny you can handle to survive. In the western world.Money is for everything that everyone needs to be hurry.The cost of living is disasters.Only needs in the philippine is the discipline of finacial management of what you have.Don't be picky of foods.adopt the culture and make use to it.Lifestyle must be controlled & Learn to live a simple life with happiness.That's it.

I mean, but.. it's France. I like both France and the Phillipines, but they're both not.. ranked high in most global rankings (Yes- France is not this kind of ''holy land of oppurtunities'' it's kind of.. mid-tier, even in Europe), and they're both ranked worse in terms of quality of life, democracy index, freedom, so on compared to many European nations As a dutchy, I do love the Philippines waaay more than France though, but again, not comparable to the Netherlands (still I love the Philippines, my ex was from there too, great country and such lovely and warm people) but again- why France. Lol. I could name at least 11 better countries even within Europe, lol.
