This guy does the bike no justice. I used to ride an R6. R1 is an effing monster. Put a short pipe on it and monster trucks will get out of your way. See the concern in their eyes as you roll past. With pipes on it, it'll make sounds that'll make your friends not want to hang out with you anymore. An R1 is the beastliest-sounding bike there is. No whine, all yell, belch and growl and howl. And that power... And the corners... If you're worried about titles and payments and heat and comfort, this monster is not for you. When I get off of it, I forget how to speak words. I can barely hear it's soul in this video. This video does it no justice.

I went from a ZX-636 to a ZX-14. From the ZX-14 I went to the R1! Im so much more happy on the R1 than the 14 but glad I went the route that I did. Having been on the 14 for 2 years taught me tons of throttle control and leaning on a heavier bike. The R1 feels like a really fast moped to me now. I still have the 14 but Im thinking about selling it soon. I just have much more fun on the R1.

The wide angle FOV exaggerates how close I am, but I've taken that critique before and don't get as close now. I always check my mirror as I come to a stop and make sure I'm on one side or the other to give the person behind me room in case they weren't paying attention. Thanks for the comment :)

I wouldn't mind, but it really won't be of much help. There are so many factors that go into insurance prices, it could range anywhere from $1k-5k a year in the US.
@motonosity11 жыл бұрын
Manageable, yeah. I actually think it might've been a little easier. The R6 is a little more "twitchy" on the throttle at low speeds which took some getting used to after the SV.

Thanks a lot! A 600 will be a tough starter bike, but if that's what you're set on, each of the 600s will be very similar in how they ride and their performance. Check out a powersports store and sit on each one of them. One will stick out to you :)

I have an R1 10 and compared to my old R6 06. R1 is lower rev, heavier, not as nimble as the R6 but the R1 is very stable and very very powerful. It is a quiet cadillac with more heat. The power is wicked but not whiney like an R6 at higher RPMs. The R6 to R1 about the same to about 60 -- then the R1 takes off. I think the R6 and R1 are both awesome bikes and a blast. You will be happy with the R1 - sneakily fast watch your speed. You got a very good deal on that R1. Both Bikes are really based on your riding style and I love both of them ;) Great review!!!

***** Depends what your definition of serious business is. For me, filtering, commuting, pleasure rides and lower speed nibleness is essential on the road, and you aren't going to be going faster than an R6 on an R1 on public roads unless you want to lose your license when you get caught by police. From your post, the conclusion i come to is your track days are the only reason one would want an R1.
@rossco01010 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clarifying your position. I've just finished a 4 hour straight ride on a CBR 125. I was comfy for the first 3 hours and then my arse started aching, so if the R6 can equal that, then great. If the R1 can better that, then i guess there's some serious thought to be had. I had my heart set on an R6, but i guess i'll have to think harder.

Honestly when I was sitting on the r1, I feel like home. But the dealer and everybody was telling me that the zx10r is the beast with new technology (TCS. ..), has more power and that I will enjoy it better. The position on the kawi was racing oriented and I felt a lot weight on my wrists (...I'm 6feet). As u just said I will go with what my gut tells me. Thanks.

After owning an FZ1 and riding a liter bike for 6months, i dont think i could go back down to a 600cc, and and i would only ride a smaller engine bike if it was say something other than a sport bike, like an adventure or cruiser/bobber of some sort. But i got to test ride a 2014 R1 a week ago and it was an incredible riding machine. I just love the engine and sound, and the position was not nearly as uncomfortable as people like to make a supersport sound.

Love my 13' 1kRR. Agree on how they have more girth in more ways than one(that's what she said). And yep, my zx6r was super nimble and flick like snapping my fingers, but the liter bike feels more planted in the turns and actually gives me more confidence too. A bit heavier but I can still manage to open my garage and move my bike from my steep drive way. One last thing, they are not going to kill you, throttle is as sensitive as my 600.

Good choice moving up to the R1. I feel like when I had my r6, I had to ride it so hard to feel the power, whereas with my fireblade I can ride it semi-normally and don't have to speed to know the power is there. The extra weight isn't a big deal unless you're at the track IMO, and I prefer the stability of my 2009 cbr1000rr vs my 06 r6.

Its not a bike for beginners thats for sure and even if you come from R6 to R1 its take time to adjust your riding skills. I recommend to any rider to get one. I wouldn't say you can't compare the R6 and the R1 head-to-head. Having ridden many bikes I can compare almost any bikes head to head, and pretty much any sport bikes can go head to head. I didn't notice that the R1 does feel more solid than the R6, but I didn't own an R6, just rode one temporarily. Had my R1 for quite some time. Good bike for what it was, though for long trips you ended up pretty sore - always.

Depends on where you live. If you're on the west side of CA or WA you can find mountains quite easily with more curves than most places (short of the Alps) in Europe. Same goes towards the east coast in the tail of the dragon area. . Though towards the middle there's not a whole lot going on. Still may find curves, but typically not major.

Hey, you should do a video on how you go about breaking in a new supersport. And maybe any differences you may of seen with the liter bike over the 600. I am familiar with how to break an engine in, however I'm not familiar with how it should be done with a street bike. With the tranny, and the chain. Plus any adjustments that might need to be made before the 1st oil change... and so on. Just wondering if that might be a video you could do. -thks

I just went from a 1000 to a 600 and the RPMs on the highway is probably the thing I hate the most. Other than that the 636 functions pretty well around town. Sometimes I regret downsizing, but then again I'm not sure I really NEEDED a new zx-10r.
@bowenleigh33279 жыл бұрын
1000's get hot and hate being putted around town sometimes. I stick with a 600 for commuting from place to place in my city and small highway runs. But for long commutes on the highway I'd definitely get a 1000 for easier droning.
