Great video Dan! Really enjoy hearing about what made you decide to grow a beard. When I started growing my beard 4 years ago after retiring from the Navy I was having problems with beard itch and dandruff, so I looked on KZbin and found your channel. Your beard care advice really changed my life, because had I not been able to fix the beard itch I would be clean shaven right now. Thanks for all you do Dan!

I was physically unable to grow any facial hair until about age 18. I joined the United States, Marine Corps right out of high school. They required us to shave every single day whether you needed to or not. For the next 35 years, every single job I had required me to be clean-shaven… Military, private security, and law-enforcement. After retiring, I decided to do the not shave thing. I let it go for about two years. I got it to about 12 inches but didn’t take care of it. Then I decided to get a post retirement job and they required me to be clean-shaven again… so I took it all off. I discovered your KZbin channel just before shaving it off. Now I’m back to being fully retired and am two months into growing it back. This time will be epic because I have the right knowledge and information. Thanks to you!

Dan, I have commented on your videos many times about my beard and learning how to grow my beard so much better. My beard was full and got up to 11" according to how you measure it. Over the end of last week I had a heat stroke. I'm in the hospital still. I'm afraid to say in order for the Dr's, nurses to get me oxygen and for some reasons I don't know they had to cut my beard off. I am beside myself. It took me 2 years to get it where it was. I'm sick to my stomach. But I'm glad and blessed to still be 6' above ground. When I do start growing it back your advice will be priceless as I start the journey over again. This time I can keep from making the mistakes I had done previously. Everyone please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I get back on my feet to recovery. The heat is not a joke. Stay hydrated and know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Blessing and beard life rules!!!

I am 50 and just started growing my first beard. I have to say it is one of the most self conscious journeys I have ever inflected upon myself. The reason I started growing it is silly. I needed a change and couldn’t afford a vacation. Turns out my wife is loving it. I made some mistakes in the first few months running clippers all over it, but it’s getting better now.

Then an opportunity opened for me to move to another role that allowed me to grow a beard then I was scrolling KZbin one day and saw one of your videos and wondered if I could take my beard to the next level and with what I learned from you I think that I have. Great video Dan C! Challenge accepted. I grew up in the 80’s, and experimented with all kinds of mustache, facial and head hair styles… LOL! Similar tale, my Dad was a Pastor and a Judge, my football coaches all frowned on the “messy unclean look”, so it just never took off. Sported a Goatee for a couple decades. Never liked my face without a mustache and my stache always looked “porn star”… so I often wondered about a full beard. Tried several times, but just couldn’t take the itch! It wasn’t until I found your channel in 2018 and learned that the “ol’ beard itch” was curable, that I decided to let it grow! Wife loves it! Grandkid loves it - says “Papa you look like a Wizard” 😊

Hi Dan! I have always sported shorter facial hair until I was preparing for a trip to a music festival in Alabama in 2021. As a midwesterner I had the stereotypical image of a good southern man looking like Duck Dynasty, so I spent 6 months growing out the beard before heading south. As it turns out, nary a beard was to be found. I was a bit surprised that I ended up being one of the few bearded men in all of northern Alabama. Who would’ve thought the Deep South rocks the clean look? Ever since then I’ve continue to nurture a mid-long beard and am enjoying every minute of it. Thanks for all your great videos - I’ve learned a lot!

"I started getting serious about growing and taking care of a beard two years ago at Christmas when I decided I wanted to be a full-time Real Bearded Santa Claus. I began searching KZbin for beard care and discovered BeardTube (who I love), leading me to Dan C, The General. For me, and really any full-time real-bearded Santas out there, our beards are an investment. So, it was refreshing to find content creators like you who take beard care so seriously. It makes me so happy watching Dan C and others out there who enjoy and have so much fun doing what they do. This led me into part-time beard reviewing, and I've been having a blast since then. I've learned so much from researching the products and binging on this channel. I look forward to many more years of content from Dan C and other passionate beard content creators out there who have so much fun doing what they do." Now Santa content is my passion, but Dan C has inspired this Santa so much to stretch his limits and make some fun beard reviews. Thank you so much for your support and feedback Dan, it means more to me than you'll ever know.

I started growing facial hair as soon as I could do so, somewhere around 14-15 years old. I always had some sort of facial hair since then. But sometime around the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 I decided to look up ways to take care of it better and grow it out. This is when I found your channel (Dan C) and many others in the bearded community. My beard took off after that! Growing like crazy and styling better than ever! I have to give you Dan a big THANK YOU!!! If it wasn’t for you I don’t know what my beard would look like! Thank you for all your help and advise throughout the years. Growing up I had a uncle that had a beard. My dad always grew one for deer hunting. I thought they were the coolest! So I knew I would have a beard. My first job was a cook at McDonald's (16). I spent the next 26 years cooking. Beards were frowned upon. When I decided to quit cooking and go back to school (2018) I started growing my beard. I wasn't real happy with it, so I would keep shaving it down. I kept th gotee. Then I discovered beard products (Duke Cannon) I bought my first beard balm. Went on KZbin to learn how to use it. That is when I found the best teacher (Dan). I learned so much and now my beard is awesome!

I had a goatee for many years but never properly maintained it, or that there even was such a thing. As they went out of style and I was preparing to separate myself from it, my head hair had the same thought. I searched for head shaving tutorials which led me to Greg Boswell and I started watching his beard tutorials as well. So I shaved my head (no cuts, bumps, or burns either - thanks Greg!) and decided to grow my beard. After searching for more beard advice which ended up being mostly guys screaming at video cameras with not much useful content behind it, I ended up on your channel. So I really started my beard journey under you and Greg's guidance. But not only did I get great beard advice from day 1, I was also introduced to Greg's other content; Doctor Nick's, True North, and Beard Octane which are great local New England companies I am proud to support; was fortunate enough to get to meet you and your family, Kris and Tera, Aric, John Fox, Erika and Walter, and I feel like I've met Nick and Jill, not to mention everyone in the chat. I suppose I grew my beard out of necessity, sort of. But it has and continues to be such a positive experience, I guess.... I'm really happy I went bald??? WTF??? Never thought I'd say that. See you tonight and thanks for everything!

I have had some form of a beard since high school, probably around 2004-ish. It was never consistent, always switching between the chin strap with mustache and just the goatee with mustache, because once i started, realized that i looked like a child without any facial hair. The only time i would shave it off was for costumes, specifically painting my face to be Darth Maul from Star Wars. In Sept 2023, decided to grow a full beard so i could go to the PA Renaissance Faire as a Viking. Liked how it looked at the end of the month, thought about keeping it and then found Dan C's channel. Realized that the products i was using were not great (Cremo and Gilette), and began investing in actual beard products that were good for my beard. My beard is now at about 4" and i have no plans to stop growing it, at least for the time being. Love the channel and look forward to more content to follow!! 🎉

I had that 2 blade level stubble for 7 years or so. I started growing it out during the Phillies postseason run in 2022. It also coincided with my mother in law being diagnosed with leukemia. That was my real inspiration. You see a lot of folks shave their head. Well I decided I was going to grow my beard because she was losing her hair. I haven’t really looked back. I experimented with barbers and had some horrible experiences, but I’m confident enough to do my own trims and when I want something more drastic I have a barber that does a great job. My MIL is doing much better and is a true inspiration! So much more to the story, but that’s the cliffs’s notes!

I have a similar story, Dan. I am two years younger than you and also rocked a chin strap in High School, though I cringe when I see those photos 😅 In college I decided to switch to a goatee and then eventually a full beard. My father has rocked a beard all of my life which was my inspiration. I have wavered over the years trimming it back often because I never loved the way it grows in (not super thick and it has some blonde - thanks dad) I found your channel in the last couple of months and it gave me the motivation to embrace what I have and wear it proudly. I am in process of going for some length for the first time in my life and strangely enough, I’m finding that it is starting to fill in with time. Thanks again for the motivational content and carving out a neat little corner of the internet where everyone can be uplifted and inspired. The weekly streams have been an absolute blast. I've always had facial hair, in some style or fashion, since my early twenties because I looked extremely young. When I was 40, I was with a friend who was in his late 20's. We went to eat at a restaurant that was inside a casino. As we are walking towards the front entrance, the security officers made a beeline for me to check my I.D. My friend couldn't believe it and told them, He's older than me. Even at 40, I was getting ID-ed. Beginning of this year, I got lazy for about 3 weeks and didn't groom my face. That's when I made the decision to start a Yeard. I'm now 4 months into a "groomed yeard". Mustache, cheek line and under neck line clean up only. Looking forward to Beard Advice Live this evening. Just received my shipment of Deadman's Oil and butter this afternoon. Tonight should be epic! Thanks again for your recommendations Dan. Your the Best at what you do my friend.

I’ve had facial hair since out of high school. Mostly a goatee. Around 21-22 I grew a full beard out but no maintenance or up keep of any sort. From my mid 20’s to late 30’s I rocked a goatee with long sideburns occasional stubble beard. A couple years ago I had some family stuff that’s been hard to deal with. Made a decision to grow the beard out as I knew it would be a good distraction. I started looking up beard care and found this channel. Went all in with beard care, evolved into taking better care of myself, eating better, went all natural with washes, soaps etc, started taking vitamins, drinking more water again. Heck with the new business I’ve lost 15 lbs. haven’t been under 200 in a long time👍 can throw in more confident and better looking 😂. Cheers!

2010 was a time when I was working overnight (a shift I hated,) and found myself not shaving due to not wanting to do anything. After two weeks (and actually, the second time of this,) the idea to let the beard grow out came to be. Aside from having a beard being my birthday gift to myself at the time (I had turned thirty,) the comments were nearly unanimously positive. While care was lax, it was between 2014 and 2015, where I began learning more about beard care products and how to take better care. I've learned more about myself, and found myself wanting to take better care. As a retail worker, I have been in front of upper level executives, and while the beard is part of me, the work has spoken for itself.

I consider my beard a Freedom Beard. I joined the Army at 17 (when I could barely grow facial hair) and went into Law Enforcement shortly after getting out of the Army. Both places have long had a thing against beards. I started growing my beard when I retired at 50 just because, for the first time in my life, I was free to do so. I've worn a beard ever since. Fortunately for me, content like this was available and I began with a strong foundation of how to do it and maintain it. It's currently at 8 inches and looks amazing.

Geez got my Thinking about how much my life has changed. I started growing my beard when I was in my early 20s and had a massive Problem with alcohol I was drinking around a litter bottle of whisky a day as well as beers. After a few month real bad cycle of drinking I sobered up enough to realize I I kinda had a beard I shaved of the sides and left the gottee going. Got sober at 27 im 36 now my beard used to be awefull bit like shaggy from Scooby doo. When I got sober it started to grow so much nicer! I thort what else can I do to make grow faster I started to youtube search on how to take care of it and came across YOU got pretty obsessed with it trying to do everything I learnt from your videos. Since growing my beard I have fully quit drinking ,smoking eating badly Started weight lift and being active much much more I fell like I would have never done any of this if I didn't have a gottee!!!!! Did trim down last summer but been letting go for the last 11 months now and have no intention of trimming again this year. Thank you so much for the knowledge Dan it has indirectly made me clean up and become a better person

So I'm turning 24 , and i when i was around 15, i was shaving like once a week (growth was slow). Once, a friend of mine asked me why I'm grooming and lining the scruff/stubble if I'm shaving anyways. I told him that that's the way it grows and then i started to pay attention to how it looks on me. For the next 6 years( so until i was 22) i kept shaving it but still liking how it looks when I don't. I finally stopped shaving for like 2 months and then i shaved it due to the itch. I instantly regretted it and i shaved for the last time in january 11th 2023. Two months into the growth i started to really take care of it.

Great video Dan. A lot of backstory I hadn't heard! There's a UK comedian called Romesh Ranganathan and he had a decent beard and I kept seeing him on TV on quiz and comedy shows and loved how nice it looked. It was sort of glossy too which I know you don't like but now I know he probably just had balm in it and it was glistening in the studio lights. Anyway.. I'd always had a stubble beard and grown it out once before for laughs but Romesh made me think this could be something I could do because he clearly takes care of his beard and it looks great. I started growing it out and it looked terrible. After about 4 months I find your channel and the rest is history!! I really appreciate and an grateful for your info and help in getting a beard to be proud of. Anyone can grow a beard but to grow a beard to be proud of is different. No father teaches their son how to grow a good beard to be proud of (apart from you I guess!😅) but men need to be taught how to reclaim this expression of their masculinity and individuality because even if the beard style is the similar, no two beards are the same.

I could grow pretty good facial hair around 14-15. Rocked the goatee for most of high school and would have a stubble beard off and on throughout college. I would grow it out a little bit occasionally but would trim it back down to stubble. It was around 2017 I started becoming serious about it, looking into beard products, etc. I can probably count on one hand how many times I have shaved clean since then. It really does bring out a confidence that very few things in my life has done - music being one of the big things. By the way, I don’t know why I find it so funny that you always kept the soul patch no matter what 😂 Great story!

Hey Dan good morning. I started growing my beard because of my son. I’m a single dad and from time to time there would be just no time to shave. One day my son and I were having dinner and such and he said you know dad you should just keep your beard. He said I think you would look fire with one. At first I was just yeah yeah ok ( he can be a gaslighting joker sometimes hahahah). Anyway, he looked at me said seriously you should and so I did. Not gonna lie; it was tough at first. The itching, the snowfall come from my cheeks and chin etc… I was ready to give up and buzz it away to how I usually wore it with a soul patch as well 👊🏻. Then I found you and just like yourself I have an obsessive personality and consumed tons and tons of your content. Tossed all the not so great stuff I bought from Amazon and Target, and slowly picked and chose those small batch companies that you work/worked with. I watched more of your videos on grooming, applying, maintaining and so on. I started hanging out in your Monday night live streams then, Wednesdays for a few months not saying much just listening and watching. Then one day I sent in to Beard Advice Live and you were super encouraging, honest and just down right a real person who created amazing and relevant and resourceful content without being pushy or trying to sell something. That same night after I had my youtube 10 minutes of fame I became a Member of your/our Beautiful Bearded Brother community and a loyal subscriber to the channel. It’s now been just about 7 months of me growing my first real beard/yeard. I can honestly say it has been an amazing journey and learning experience. You inspire not only me but plenty of others in the community to be there their best in Beard and in Life. I look forward to becoming more apart of the community as I do my best to engage more with you ( I’m sure it is hard for you to keep track/remember) all of us who try and do engage with you in livestreams and those involved in it as well. Thank you for sharing not only your epic beard with us, but also your epic story of Beauty and the Beard. My apologies for the novel. I guess I had a lot to share. Thanks again Teach! Always kept a mustache from as early as 16 (Fuzzy on the age, but sometime in high school). Shaved the rest of the face all throughout college and in my career - mainly because I was in the restaurant business and didn't want to be seen as "unclean". Fast forward to 2020 - had to wear masks to work, so I stopped shaving. I realized that between the mask and the beard, I had a new found confidence. Decided to keep the beard. Then did research on beards, found your channel, and now I have a full on beard oil collection. No real goal, just want the best beard possible, while maintaining a professional look. Probably going to send in to BAL in a couple weeks since it is my birthday to show the progress in a year's time and get some advice on what to do with the 'stache since I have tried about 3 different styles lol.

I grew my first (and only) beard to draw attention from my bald head. I also wanted to cover my “turkey neck”. My barber gave me (fortunately, good) advice for keeping it well-groomed in keeping with my appearance as it grew. Also, while I had very much enjoyed shaving, I noticed I wasn't getting as consistently close a shave, which annoyed me a little, then a little more, then brought my attention to the above.

I've had a mustache since 1974. I added a goatee now and then, but when I got a job in security, beards weren't allowed, only a tight mustache. Soon after I left that job I got a part as a Pharasee in a Passion Play, so I spent the next three months during rehearsal time to grow a beard and look the part. That was 2017 and I've had a full beard of various lengths since. I started with grooming and products after it got to about 4", and I saw my first beard care videos by George Bruno.

About 30 years ago, I started with a goatee including a soul patch. Exactly, for same reason you said to look older than a baby faced teen. After 5 years later, I grew tired of the look and grew out wide chin strap to the goatee to have a fuller look. Beardruff started in wide patches in my chin so I would shave off to use psoriasis medication creams and grow back and treat with coal tar shampoo. I did this periodically for the next 20 years. During this time, I switched to Tea tree shampoo and saw improvement. (Never thought to use Internet for beard care) End of last summer 2023, I decided to grow out my chin strap to a fuller beard to see how it looked with white chin hair that started around the age of 50. I never was able to get good coverage from edge of mouth to mid cheek/jaw in 20's and 30's. Hormones/Age actually gave me a decent top line for the first time. Let chin hair grow behind the goatee for a fuller look. I have been trimming every 2 to 3 months and using store bought oils and creams for the last 6 of 9 months. Based on your recommendations, I have invested in beard care products from Beard Octane, Fable, BadAss, Grave Before Shave,Method man, and Honest Amish.(Dr Nick 's is next) My beard feels much better and softer. I purchased combs ( Kent, Chicago #8,and Oxhorn), round brush, and new hair dryer with cool button.(It was time after 35 years) This week, the 100 degree heat has hit Arizona where I live. After considering beard itch I already have felt and pool chlorine, today, I decided to follow advice of better communication about hair cutting and beard trim to deal with the heat. I straightened my beard before going with a heated brush.(later Hot towel shortened chin hair and it went wavy again ) Using Kratos/God of War as inspiration, We decided on high fade for hair.(Didn't want to go bald yet) Due to my face shape, i felt good with longer angle scissors trim for longer hair especially around the mouth. ( these would sometimes get in my mouth) Trimmed mustache, top, bottom and sideburn lines with clippers. Updated my profile with a photo taken in the barber chair. Made sure to get side and back photos based on your live stream feedback to others. Already got compliments and told how I don't age on social media. Thanks for your content! I felt much more confident expressing myself than just leaving trim decisions up to someone else doing the cutting.

Interesting video man, thanks for sharing. I’ve been playing around with styles since my beard started growing in. My early beard was basically a goatee my mustache and cheek coverage was thin so I kept it shaved, I wore the chinstrap and kept it until I got tired of maintaining the chinstrap style and basically trimmed everything down to stubble and thought my beard was too patchy to grow long, I’ve worn the beardstache and other styles and I would get frustrated because everyone at the time “2016ish” was rocking the big beard. I finally decided to just let it go and grew it out for three months and liked it, but would always trim or change styles too much to keep it consistent. It was in 2021 I decided to try the yeard, absolutely loved the experience and basically been trying to grow it longer after reaching the year point. I get to aggressive with my trimming and end up starting over every year, I’m determined to get it longer than the year, I’m currently in the process of growing out a completely natural yeard, no shaving or trimming and it’s been really good so far.

I think in my 20s, I was going through my anchor beard phases because of the attitudes and fashion statements at the times, before going though my clean shaven phases. And right around when the movie "Logan" came out, I got tired of trying to be baby-face and I just kept the razor down for years and kept it nicely trimmed. Until less than 2 years ago, when I was going though a very difficult time, that I put down the scissors as well and let myself go. It was kind of a spiritual awaken that I saw my beard as an extension of my masculinity.

I grew my first beard during my senior year of high school. This was back in 1973. I fashioned it into a goatee and really liked it. However, I didn’t use products and I developed beardruff and I had to get rid of it. I saw my skin was red and flaky and it took a while to recover. It always deterred me from growing whiskers again. Fast forward 50 years and I decided to try again. As noted here before, my wife suggested that I grow a beard after a 65 pound weight loss. She said that I looked like I was perpetually scowling. With that beardruff memory lurking, I vowed to do it right. Thanks to the advice that I've found here. I'm happy with my beard and look forward to learning more on this journey. Thanks Dan

One Croatian 3D modeler and personality based streamer (he had a bit a larp going) would wear a rather huge one sometimes with a massive stache, welding goggles and a ushanka and it was very endearing, like some sort of Slavic land pirate if such a thing could exist. Anyways it just sort of snapped around time of covid i could get away with growing a beard and then from there i just did, many faults along the way mostly due to lack of money at the time followed by lack of care and not helped by lack of knowledge but i just liked it even if i couldn't manage it properly so kept it from there!

So, here's my beard story. I'm 22 years old with an Italian background on my mom's side, and my facial hair started growing in when I was in 8th grade, so 13 years old. As we all know, Italians tend to have genes that make them really hairy, especially men. At the time, I only grew hair on my neck, a soul patch, and a mustache. So, I started shaving all that, including the peach fuzz on my cheeks. Eventually toward the end of middle school, my cheek hairs started to grow in. By the time I was 14, I was able to grow a full beard, but not quite as thick as it is now. I hated shaving, but I still did it because it didn't look good that thin, and apparently it's socially unacceptable for a teenage boy to wear facial hair. Fast forward to my sophomore year in high school, I participated in the No Shave November challenge, which was so hard because it itched so bad. On the last day, it only stayed as a thin stubble. Stubble is always the hardest part because it's so itchy. I tried growing my mustache, but it was still too thin later that year, so I shaved it off. As high school went by, it grew in thicker and thicker. Fast forward, I was 18 years old and I graduated from high school in 2020 (thanks, COVID, for ruining the end of high school for me), and then I wanted to wear my facial hair since I was an adult officially out of high school. I was still shaving that summer, but fast forward to August of 2020, my high school held an in person graduation ceremony for students who wanted to participate because the pandemic forced all schools to have virtual ceremonies that June. That day was the last time I was ever clean shaven, because I still wanted to look like a high school student in that ceremony. After the in person graduation ceremony, I then decided to grow a goatee, which I loved a lot, and I kinda miss it. I kept trimming it short enough where all the hair was visible, but not too short to the point of stubble. I wore the goatee up until the Passover/Easter season of 2022, where I had decided to grow out a full beard for the first time. Like I mentioned before, I hate shaving, and I wanted to do it less and less as possible at that point, and I also did it mainly because I love the style. I was shaving off the neck beard in the beginning of growing my full beard, and keeping the rest, which I later learned that was a mistake, so I grew the neck beard out. Don't get me wrong, I loved the goatee, but it was time to say goodbye. When it got long enough, I then started, combing it, brushing it, using beard oil, and late last year I started using beard balm along with the oil. I do use beard shampoo, too, which I also started doing around this point last year, and I do feel a difference in texture, itcheness, length, and thickness. I tried conditioner at one point, but it just made it drier (probably a brand issue). Your advice does help a lot, too, Dan. Since the spring of 2022, I have been wearing a full beard without looking back. I am currently in college, and I have not been clean shaven once since I started college. I am trying to grow it out longer, but it is growing a little slow as compared to most BeardTubers I have seen that grow theirs really quickly, but I am still trying. My mustache isn't as thick as I would like it to be, but it has been getting thicker over time since my goatee days. I have more confidence with myself, I look my age, and I don't have to stick a metal blade on my face as much anymore, and I love it. That's my beard story.

Ever since I was a really young kid, I would always see these big motorcyclists with huge beards riding down the road and I loved the look. I don't have much of an interest in riding, but I tried to keep a beard as early as I could, even with it being an ugly neckbeard in my early teens. I would say about five years ago I let my beard start fully growing out without shaving or much trimming, and it wasn't until a couple years ago that I started using beard shampoo separately from head shampoo. But it was only a few months ago that I started following you when I was looking for tips with growing my beard longer, and what products/ingredients I should be looking for when buying shampoos and conditioners. Very much appreciate the help with all the videos you make! As a separate video suggestion, would it be possible to get a hands on look at how you wash your beard when showering? I know you've covered your routine previously, but I've seen some other creators show how they go about washing their beards. I myself end up with a decent amount of hairs in my hands, and I know you've mentioned that's normal, but I still feel like I might be taking care of my beard wrong in some way or I might be too aggressive with how I'm washing it. Much love Dan!

When I got home contacted the Abilene Train here in Kansas now I'm on my third year as Cowtown Santa Claus Train

My real beard, I started after going strict keto back in Dec 2019. My beard was patchy untill I was 49. I would have a goat or stubble but never a full beard. After changing my diet and eating whole foods for the most part and loosing a hundred pounds, I noticed my bald spots had started to fill in. So I quit shaving. It started as a yeard. It will be 2 years in September. Side note, Never a "chin strap" lol 😂

First beard was when I was 19. I was always influenced by 19th century beards because of how unruly they were. I cut it off consistently after that when I hit the 3 to 4 month mark because I was quite insecure of how frizzy and wispy it looked, and the big sparse patch underneath my chin where the bulk of the beard is supposed to be. It was this year, with the help of a dedicated online bearded community when I realised how cool my beard could be on account of how unique my growing pattern is; I now want to grow it terminally, wisps and all. To aid in this I decided to hide my clippers so I didn't think of shaving - still don't know where they are. It's a shame because I'm balding and I like to keep my hair closely cropped.

I'm 58 and started shaving when I was 18. Since I was 18 I have probably tried every cartridge razor and can shave gel, cream and foam sold at Walmart. I also probably tried every electric shaver available. I never liked the shaves I got from cartridges or electric shavers. In 2013 I got into DE/ wet shaving didn't like that. In 2019 I was thinking about growing a beard but didn't want to deal with the itching and all the flaking aka beardruf which I didn't know was a thing. Then in August 2019 I said stop procrastinating and just grow a beard but I wanted to grow it the right way to avoid itching and flaking so I searched KZbin and the first video I watched was one of your videos. You talked about using beard oil, brush and comb. If I remember correctly you recommended Honest Amish oil and a brush from Beard Octane I ordered Honest Amish oil, soap and a brush from Beard Octane and the last time I shaved was August 31,2019 and I started growing my first beard on my birthday September 1 and the rest is history

4:00 How many months into the journey were you in the second pic from the top? Im curious because after 3 months and some change, my length is about a quarter less in length. I'm not trying to keep up with the Jonses here, but it seemed to have slowed down or i'm just getting used to looking at it. First time i tried growing it out in curiosity, i felt discouraged and shaved. I saw my chin for the first time in months and it scared the hell out of me. So, i decided next time i grow this back i'm keeping it. I don't like the short goatee look i don't think, so i'm going to try for that stereotypical "biker" goatee.

1 week from 5 months I'll be 4 inches. Mine has slowed down it seems but it's still consistent with 1/2" a month. Give it time it's growing

I grew a goatee in the 90s for a few weeks, shaved it, and went into a state of mourning and reqret I didn't expect. I shaved on a Friday and went home for the weekend and I remember kinda hiding in the basement watching the Kirk Star Trek movies on the old Beta VCR down there. I grew it back and soon went full beard but I did *all* of the stupid stuff. I kept it way too short and my neckline was at my jaw. I would revert to a goatee and try again every few years only for it not to look right. I always blamed it on being too thin, and it is, but the main problem was my trimming. On my last attempt I finally realized I needed to stop shaping a neckline and cutting it to fractions of an inch, and finally gor something I liked, and have had it over a decade now.

I've always had some sort of facial hair since highschool, I started my beard journey roughly six years ago. I did it not because it's in style but because I'm 5'3 I don't like the feeling of looking way younger then I am because of my height.

I remember back in 2017 watching a video about beards. I believe it was honest. Amish who they were talking about. When I started growing a beard, there were not many companies besides the honest Amish that I knew of. So that was my first one. I would watch scuba on my lunch breaks to get as much information as I could. Then one day I stumbled upon danc bearded. He had a green chalkboard with the company behind him that he was talking about. From then on I was listening to DanC bearded scuba and Beard brand. I did that for about 2 years. When I started growing a beard it was not very much accepted at work. I could only grow 2 inches off my face. I got all the name from my bosses then somehow I convinced them to grow a beard for no shave November. I also gave them each a bottle of oil and butter and we grew a beard together. After the month was over with no more complaints about me growing a beard And both of my bosses still carry a two to a 4-in beard to this day. I think we have come a long way from people looking at beards as a rough person. I have noticed a lot of men with four to 8-in beards in the Walmart Meijer stores. Times are changing for men. I grew a beard to be different.

I started shaving in high school as I was one of those guys that has always been hairy. Played soccer for years and my nickname became either "Baywatch", because I too had the shaggy surfer look hair with the puka (shell) necklaces, or "Sasquatch" because I was bigger, stronger, and hairy in the chest and legs/arms (but clean-shaven). Out of high-school, I worked fast food to pay through my first college degree [Education], then higher level food business as a kitchen manager at different places to pay through my 2nd University degree [in Biblical Studies]. Because I was in food business, I wasn't ever allowed to have too much facial hair and since I shaved about daily since high-school, growing a full beard never crossed my mind. When I was around 19-20, I tried a look with a bit of hair on the chin (as I wanted to look like Enrique Iglesias 😂) and I actually pulled it off decently but didn't feel like the upkeep. For the next few years I would try the chin strap with soul patch and stache, the soul patch by itself, a mustache with longer side-burns etc. Because my facial hair grows ridiculously fast, it was easy to grow out a different look every week and just start over with a shave. I never grew anything beyond 2 weeks until I was around 25. Then I started letting the stubble grow a little bit longer but for about 2 years and up to a month's length for the first time which I liked but couldnt bring myself to go beyond that and would just shave. In my early twenties, I became close friends with a guy from Georgia who talked about how he wanted the two of us to grow a yeard and rock the Duck Dynasty look. We never did that of course but it was a fun thought. He passed in 2018 from an overdose. In 2020 during the height of Covid, I finally committed to growing out the yeard and made it to 13 months; no trimming except for the mustache. Since then I've had shorter beards and have even shaved at times but now I'm fully familiar with the beard life and really enjoy it. I also prefer a full beard aesthetically. I have a decent jawline but when I put on some weight I tend to carry a little extra on the neck and the beard helps in masking that. But over all I just feel more natural and myself with a beard. I also feel that it gives me more confidence and vibes more with my personality as someone who has always been somewhat of an old soul. It has also led me to communities like this and as a history buff it has opened up an entirely new avenue of research and Biblical study as a follower of Jesus Christ as well. Keep up the great content Dan. I admire the dedication. 👊
