Cool bass, Phil! I LITERALLY just got my Kiesel today. A tropic green Delos with hot pink pickups (HSS). I also got white sides and back. This thing is a work of art. My first Kiesel and definitely not my last.

I think the 30" is the most clever choice if you don't play bass as your main instrument. It's easer to play and more confortable. Anyway I prefer satin necks

Great looking bass. The details are immaculate in the video. I remember trying a few friends Carvin basses in the 80s and 90s. I was never as impressed with the basses as I was with their guitars. Seems that Keisel up'd their game on basses in recent years. You are correct on headless basses taking more abuse and not breaking strings as often as standard basses. The also stay in tune better.

Thinking of getting a Kiesel Osirus 5-string (a bolt-on Vader, basically). My issue is pickup configuration. I'm torn between: standard 2 soapbar humbuckers, P-pickup in the neck and soapbar single coil in the bridge, or J-pickup in the neck and full MM humbucker in the bridge. I can't find any text or video comparing these setups on any style Kiesel bass. Any recommendations? Pros? Cons? - Mr. M? Anybody? Thanks!

I have three Kiesel headless guitars and a Kiesel headless Vader 6 string (34” scale). At first the ergonomics were really tough to get used to, but after extending the strap button at the horn and moving a strap button to the back of the body it plays great. It’s a perfect bass to bring to gigs and has become my primary bass. I’ve been playing bass for over 35 years and the Kiesel basses rival anything I’ve played from Fender, Warwick, Ken Smith, Lakeland etc….

Was just listening to the podcast from the end of Nov ("The Companies Who Make the Best Copy of A Copy" - where you incidentally answered my question about the Kaizen so I watched it live and then months later re-listened apparently) where you were talking about this bass (and the other you ordered) and how you were waiting to post the video and were going to talk about how they had to scrap the first one and restart so it took awhile to get it. So I was just wondering when the video would finally drop and heres my answer. Awesome video, Phil and awesome playing!

Very Nice looking and sounding bass Phill ! I had to comment because I have a Carvin Icon 6 and its the best bass that I ever bought and I think the company does exactly what you want them to do and they have excellent customer service. The colors you chose were eye catching and different, very nice ! I hope you love yours as much as I love mine. Their instruments play and sound Great !! I have been playing for 40 years and experienced many instruments and I think you chose a winning combination. It is great to see you demonstrate a bass !! Thanks, Roland

Thanks for sharing this cool project instrument that you had Kiesel build. I have to say, I enjoy the choice’s you made in features. 30” scale was a cool and practical pick, especially for a travel instrument. Do you find the shorter scale length easier to play? I had tried pit a Rob Allen bass that had a 34” scale, but ended up buying a 35” scale and no question I liked the 34” better. Mahogany neck, was a nice surprise, as I think Mahogany has a sweeter tone than maple. What wood was used for body wings, Maple or Mahogany, Alder or Ash? I have taken note of how you devised the active tone circuit. The blend control was a interesting addition, and the mid range contour is another feature That has to be an effective tonal shaper. I lived very close to 48th St., in NYC, and happened upon the original Steinberger bass demo at We Buy guitars. I thought it was a brilliant bass for gigging and got #213? (Very close). It was a great instrument in its own right, if you were cool with a non wood bass. Recorded great. Would stay in tune for at least a couple of weeks. I can’t remember if I had ball ends on both sides, but I’m guessing that your 30” scale prevented that possibility.

Kiesel guitars builds really good basses. I have a JB5 and I am very impressed with it. It has become my main bass for the past 4 or so years. The neck is amazing! Since I’ve had it, I’ve never had the need to adjust the neck-I had them set the action low. I tuned down a whole step with it and never went back to standard tuning. The only thing I don’t like are the tuning pegs. I will change them to hip shot ultra lights. Though the tone is grate, I plan to try some Aguilar pick ups on it soon. Customer service was great as well. Give Keisel bass a try you will not regret it.

Shouldn't you adjust the neck so the fretboard is straight before you check the fret level with the fret rocker?....or did you check the straightness with a straight edge (with the strings under tension) and then check the fret levels? If you check the fret level with relief in the neck then there's every chance that the frets will appear level even though they're actually not level.
