New subscriber here. Just watched your latest Dutch habits video. The habit that struck the deepest chord was “be normal” learning that the Dutch tend to purposely settle for a 6/10 on a test for example. Being an overachiever is SO ingrained in me as an American raised in a Puritanical mindset not be lazy, that was radical to hear. I’m a teacher so I don’t have the temptation of “billable”hours like my husband who is a lawyer. However, I have a tutoring business as a side gig that I often do after a long day teaching. I’m usually too tired to do much in the way of my hobbies like art. Even worse I often tell myself my hobbies are a waste of time😢 More videos (or grouping ones you’ve already made and reading suggestions) on this topic are very welcome. I think it takes practice to overcome this mindset.

Dag Peter, even with 80k subs I couldn’t make a living from KZbin posting authentic content. The simple fact is, if you are not engaging with ‘the machine’ of clickbait and drama and selling stuff and sticking to the formula, you are unlikely to make KZbin your living. My book recommendation is ‘Break the Internet’ by Olivia Yallop. Have a read and it will hopefully help clarify a few things. For me, I have found that getting a regular job I enjoy and doing KZbin as a hobby is the only way I can make authentic and genuine content. It’s hard when you are sculpting a life managing pain or a health condition (Migraine and high blood pressure here) as there is so much meal prep involved, but it’s working for me. Good luck.

Welcome back! you were missed. You were one of the 'older' slow living/ minimalist youtubers i enjoyed watching. When you started almost everyone is in their 20s/30s and I enjoy their content but i didnt relate. Check out atomic shrimp, he grew his channel to 1m subscriber with doing just random things that he enjoys. He is a retiree in the UK. He doesnt say he is a minimalist or slow living but I think he is living a slow living lifestyle. He did cooking collaborations with a guy from Nigeria (so interesting and fun) one of my favourite videos. What I learned is that the more you do things that you enjoy regardless of a niche or not, the algorithm favours people who are consistent. People will follow you because they find you interesting. There are youtubers who defied the algorithm and grows. I would love to see your journey of self discovery and also how your relationship is with your girlfriend now that you are living together. I completely understand wanting it private but as someone who would like to date again and worry about how to bring in someone into my life who isnt minimalist worries me haha i have a clutter-free simple life and most people are not.

Dear Sir, the value of Dutch philosophy cannot be easily measured. I had a Dutch yoga teacher for 9 years and it's only watching your vids. that I realise why I think as I do and how much of her incredible snippets of healthy habits I've acquired. I live in Australia though I'm British. It is overtly competitive here and I am not comfortable with it. Fore me, a difficult place to be at times but my kids are here so it's thanks to my ability to get 'the needle' back to the centre, that I can survive happily. I'm 74. Thank you for posts. I'm a keen listener and love your book recommendations.

Hi Peter, good, honest video. If you haven’t already worked it out I do think there is a niche (possibly a huge one) for minimalism/slow-living/etc for real-world-working-folks. There are millions and millions of us who, like you, aspire to that way of being but who also somehow have to make that work alongside…..life. I think you’re already doing it, actually.
