I feel like people are not only missing the cut between you going no to abby and petting here. But also if she stops when you tell her then you are supposed to reward that behavior to keep the stop command active. If he just fully ignores her when telling her stop, it doesn't reinforce the stop command and then you got a dog that does actions you do not want and cannot stop them. Anyway Morgan you will figure it out eventually, you are doing a great job juggling everything. Looks like you figured out a role for the goats to play on the farm that helps you!
@mmabe4000Ай бұрын
That’s a good point, I never thought about it that way
@raquelmota14Ай бұрын
The thing is that the wrong behaviour already happened, so a positive reinforcement after a corretion for that behaviour its out of time and place. Specially when the value of the positive reinforcement is bigger for the dog. The best way is to praise the dog is when he is just standing calmly by the goats/etc.. .and ignoring then. Just like when you're training a reactive dog and when you pass with him by another dog and he does nothing, then you praise. If he react/barks/lunge, you correct and move on

Morgan it truly has been a pleasure to see your routine change and adapt over the years to make things more efficient. Woodchucks can be a problem, because running cattle and dogs can seriously hurt their legs/joints if their legs get stuck in there while running. In my opinion an extra dog would help with that problem, you can make your team of dogs so much more efficient if you would ad another breed to the mix! Think about terriers or ratting dogs that are used to hunt raccoons, possums, rats and other rodents!

A pasture chicken being taken occasionally is the “price of doing business” as it where. My sense so far of where the pasture chicken fit in is manure disbursement and associated fly control as well as a family egg supply; owing to your allergy. With some meat for your table. As long as the occasional lose of a chicken does not disrupt your current model let it roll. 😀 It seems to work for you and your farm while not complicating your daily routine, seems perfect to me. Can you let one of the chickens raise a goose for a natural warning system for the aerial predators? That goose should consider that group of chickens is it's flock and would hopefully stay with them so it can warn of aerial threats.

When you build the shelter for your cows, it would be wise to put in a couple of calving pens. I know that for the most cattle can handle calving on their own, but for handling any problems prior to or after calving, it is much easier to do what is needed for your animals in a pen.

I really like the goat cam. You can see so much more with it. I like that you can actually see Larn's head, the other goats, a view of the farm that is higher so it isn't buried in the grass and weeds. Ginny does her best, but usually all you see is her front paws. Sorry to hear of Alfred's quarry problems from the storm. I hope he is able to get it sorted soon so he can turn around on his road again. Sounds like you are going to have a nice patio. I've always wanted an outdoor kitchen area. I've just never gotten around to it. Too many other things I want or need to do first.
@ladyterukiАй бұрын
I didn't expect to enjoy the goats this much when you first got them. I was afraid they'd be like the pigs, but they have so much personality and fit in so well ! They follow you everywhere (...and come when called 8:50 ?!), have already changed how Abby works, and even found some jobs around the farm ! I'm also wondering if you plan on introducing them to the Moo Crew ? In any case, the more I see them, the more I hope these guys become permanent... It's too bad fencing is so much work, otherwise maybe you could have created a "dog corridor" for the dogs to walk around the perimeter without being left alone with the cows in the upper pasture. Sort of like the bird yard when Toby was a puppy.

Glad to see the area near your house getting cleaned up for a project space. Consider looking for historic preservation grants for that big red barn over the next few years. You could probably fundraise from your viewers. Take time with Alfred and set up a system to remove, repair, and repaint & refinish the wood. Keep your eye out for scrap lumber along the way. After a bit of work, you will better know the scope of what you might need to contract out one day. Just imo. I have a tiny (but somewhat tall) barn as a garage. It needs a lot of work. I wish I had a proper budget to start working on it. Cheers.

@@GoldShawFarm yes I did miss the cut between the "No!" and the petting. I'm not paying attention to quick cuts and I thought fade cuts were supposed to be used to show time passing. If you don't show time passing between the discipline and petting you are leading the audience to believe not much time has passed. Even with noticing a cut we don't know how long in between cuts that was. If it causes confusion on a regular basis would anyone notice if the petting scene was left out? Abby just doesn't seem to be getting it with the goats and I wonder if the discipline you give her is enough or the right type but you know your dog.
