Why I Had to Take the 35 Inch Tires Off My F-150

What's up guys, the day has come to explain myself. I took the 35s off my F-150, but not without good reason! Check out why I did it and let me know if you think I made the right choice or not.

I had the same problem; I have the same exact truck as you. I rode 33" A/T and rode great. I now have 35" M/T and it rides rougher and gets worst fuel mileage. I just picked up some 305/60/18 (33"s) Mickey Thompson's. These tires are very wide and more low profile M/T. WILL UPDATE:

2 or 1/2" leveling spacers for 35's on factory 20" wheels no issues or proper back spacing with different size rim you won't have rubbing issues

That’s what I said too. 295/65R18 on a 2015 F-150 5.0 Supercrew 2.5” level on front and 1.5” on rear no issues. On stock rims.

Lift kit, labor, tires, mandatory upgrades, etc... costs what a 2nd vehicle like a good SUV would cost for taking the kid around. Always have a back-up vehicle that's better suited for the wife to drive, more efficient on fuel, more convenient for running errands (groceries, etc...). Trucks weren't designed to be family vehicles, unless they're your only vehicle, but for the costs of all said modifications, it's just better to have a family rig.

To fit 35s comfortably and on stock wheel or aftermarket. Readylift 3.5 sst kit you should still be able to fit into garage. But yea 33s prob better way to go..

2019 f150 4 inch lift 295/70/18 that’s a 34.3 inch tall an 11.6 wide tire perfect in my opinion the 35x12.50 is just little to big more Weight brings down the gas mileage and ride quality and the price is a little better on the 34 vs 35 you also have more clearance for when your suspensions Flexin off road

I had thought about it, but after having tire rub on my first setup, I didn’t want to risk it. If I buy another set on my current setup, I’ll probably go with some form of a 34” tire.

@@freakfiveoh 295/70R18 would be there. I was considering for my Tundra but I don't want the extra unsprung weight. I would prefer 275/75R18 but no one makes that size.

I have a 14’ f150 and I was wondering how your truck preformed with the 35’s. Im still in stock (Its like 31-31.5’s) and id like to know if that extra weight makes a big difference at all? I’m not worried too much about fuel mileage I’m just worried when it comes too acceleration/braking. I don’t want to risk breaking any stock parts (axles, drivetrain, brakes etc.) I plan on getting no bigger than 18 inch wheels if that makes a difference at all. Any info would be GREATLY appreciated

I thought it did fine, there was definitely a difference but I didn't feel underpowered. That said, I had 3.73s in the truck, and the all terrain tires aren't as heavy as what some people put on their trucks

jOE L sorry, that was a dumb thing on my part to leave out. I filmed the video real quick while I was running an errand, so I didn’t think about all the extra shots I needed. I’ve had a lot of questions about my wheel and tire setup though, so next weekend I think I’ll clean the truck up and do a good walk around video showing how the truck sits.

can someone tell me whats the point behind 35s? is it just a looks preference thing. Im rolling on 33s and think the truck looks very nice and plenty of clearance. 35s makes truck look like a tractor and really really slow on the highway

I think part of it, at least with F150s, is everyone wants their truck to look more Raptor like. Also, it's a lot easier to fit 33s, so if you're trying to show off you're more likely to try and cram on 35s like I did. My truck didn't feel too much different between the two different tires, but I think that's probably because the all terrains and mud terrains have a different weight, so maybe it evened out when I switched.

Since you have 33s, why not just go 31s? My 35s look great, fill in the wheel well, and raise the truck up....same reason you have 33 vs 31.

@@bestpathfinder My 35s didn't fit. Different brand wheels and tires fit differently. I've seen guys with my same suspension say they fit 35s with no rubbing at all, it just didn't work in my case.

bestpathfinder well 33s provide good traction,width and superior ground clearance to 31s and dont need cutting or a lift and can be safely installed on a stock 4x4 f150s. Ive seen people do all kinds of goofy stuff like lifting 6inches and then trimming fenders, and even cutting safety crash bars! just for the sake of fitting 35s. To me that makes no sense.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered (I couldn’t find it if so), but we’re your 35’s true 35’s? What’s the offset on your wheels? I have some raptor take off with 285/75/17’s and am considering 315/70/17’s so not true 35’s. I’ve heard some people say they’ll fit because they’re not quite 35’s and have a lost less aggressive offset.

These measured pretty close, they were 35x12.5s, but each brand measures a little different. I know the lift I put on my truck was made for 34s, so if you have something similar you'd probably be fine, if it's a stock truck I'm not as sure.

I’m torn between 275/70r18 and 295/70r18 trail grapplers on my 2012 f150 5.0. 4x4 and 3.55 gears. I do tow every once in a while so I’m not sure. Maybe would get a tuner one day but don’t wanna regear

Were your tires 35x12.5? I have a 2014 f150 with 295/70/18s (34.4x11.6) But i am wanting to go with some 18x9 methods with a positive 18 offset. Do you think I would rub like you did?

I've got a 2014, I got some 12.5 35 20 nittos, had to put in spacers to get I'd of rubbing on my arms, now it won't clear the corner of the front bumper, and the inside of the fender flares

Im running a +18 with 35x12.5 fuel mud grippers on my 2014 f150, no rubbing what so every, just trimmed about half an inch from the front valence, and a piece of plastic in the wheel well. Its on a 3 inch level

It's true, I wasn't interested in doing any gearing change, nor did I feel the need to with either tire. I do wish I had weighed each tire before they went on the truck. I'd be curious to compare a larger all terrain to the smaller mud terrain.

I've been window shopping exhaust systems for a while. I've thought about going the cheaper route and getting a black widow muffler of some sort welded in, but I may still decide to just get a full catback kit. If I go for a catback system, I'll probably wait for some sort of holiday sale to help save a little money.

It should be a 3.55 or 3.73. I haven't changed them, but I'll have to see if it's stamped on the axle anywhere because I know there was an option for different gears.

My Car Life You should be able to look at the door jamb under the “axle” part. Code L9 is 3.55 and L6 is 3.73. I bet it’s 3.73 since you said there was an option for gears. But I don’t remember exactly. I do know I got mine with the 3.73s though

I did look at 34s a little when I first started thinking about downsizing, but I didn't want to spend the money again and still run the risk of them rubbing. Plus I wanted to try the new KM3s, and I don't think they were offering a 34 at the time.
