That Baahubali scene!!! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT THOUGHT IT WAS TERRIBLE! I loved that movie, but that scene was terrible! She was such a wonderful independent woman, and he totally ruined that part of her by making her the traditional standard of woman. Thank you!!! This is why i love you! BTW, i totally think of you as my older sister that i don’t have! I love you

So true ,I am a black person who has watched a lot of Bollywood and have noticed how much fairer the people on-screen are as compared to Indians you actually meet .Its worse when a white or half white woman is hired to pass for Indian implying that this is what an Indian should look like. Unfortunately this fair and lovely culture is a post colonial hangover for POCs

Since I am a women's rights lawyer, these things annoy me on a daily basis. I am North Indian and I am considered "fair" not punjabi fair but still fair and just recently, an aunty at a wedding thought she was complimenting me when she told me I was fair and I am even more beautiful than my mom because of that. I was like "what"? In one sentence, you pretty much insulted my mom and all the other girls out there many of whom look way better than me. I mean, I have a really dusky cousin and she has THE MOST amazing skin and hair. I would love to look like her. And at her own wedding, someone had commented that now we also have a dark bahu in the family with a lot of brains. The next one, we should pick a bahu who is fair and pretty even if she doesn't have such a high education. Are you kidding me? ugh. I have such a girl crush on Lisa Hayden. She looks amazing! Would pick her over Katrina or Jacqueline any day every day.

I was only able to give them both dirty looks. Couldn't say anything cause then I'd be the "uncultured, loud mouthed drama maker" and the situation would have been awkward and tense. Didn't want to do put my cousin in a bad situation. There are so many good indian actresses who act really well! Rani Mukherjee is one of them in my opinion. She is versatile and knows how to act. Personally, I don't care for foreigners in Indian movies. We have a lot of our own people who can do a way better and much more realistic job. It also irks me cause somewhere or the other, film makers are keeping the notion alive that foreign women ergo fair and thin women are better than indian women who are more curvaceous and have melanin skin.
@aasthapasta
@aasthapasta 6 жыл бұрын
And it is even more damaging to have these fair skinned foreign actresses then being in songs like Chittiya Kalaiyan and Kala Chashma, effectively putting white bodies as being the more beautiful! Its absolutely disgusting! I was so happy to see Lisa Hayden on screen and even happier to see that her skin hasn't gone through a significant change in colour!!!

I am a fair skinned European girl born and raised in USA. My husband is an Arab man. I’m so jealous of naturally dark skin. Born with a tan. I’m so white My legs reflect light instead of tanning. If ur heavy then it just looks like chicken fat. Like, Americans spend thousands of dollars every year trying to obtain a tan like the natural one u have Jovita! Even we aren’t trying to be white. I’ve tried watching several different makeup gurus, they are all lovely, but you are the only one I feel I can actually have an intelligent conversation with! Your views are top-notch realness. You’re very right about the problems Women face. We have the same damn problems in the Mexican community. I’ve fought so hard against that mentality and am of course considered radical for it. A 33yo unwed Mexican woman is a no no, but I’m doing me and I’m happier than most women I know. Thank you so much for spreading truth to all these women. I hate it when the girl always ends up with the guy who treats her like shit or harasses her at the beginning of the film. My range of entertainment is quite vast, and nearly always, the girl ends up with they guy who we in real life would disapprove of cause of how mean he is. But for some reason, media likes to show that girls like being harassed? I seriously don't get why.

Oh I watched Bahubali a couple of months ago and I had the exact same reaction. I got soooooo pissed I was live texting my friends that this is a violation of my body and how is this considered romantic? I would punch a guy if he does that to me and not consider it romantic. It is a huge movie and they wrote this as their romantic first meeting? I still have the pent up frustration from seeing her role in the movie. Even after the scene (for which I still cringe) she gives up on her mission when a dude comes along. She's a warrior woman, don't make a girl a warrior woman and then just give her a sprain so the guy can show how much of a hero he is. The whole movie made me wonder...this is what they call strong female character?

hey jovi - i absolutely loved this video. I am quite fair skinned and i am south indian and i hate it when people (100% of the time INDIAN) say i am beautiful BECAUSE MY SKIN IS FAIR. its so annoying because i have more to fucking offer than my fair skin. fair skin doesnt make someone beautiful - indian girls not only have beautiful eyes and cheekbones to die for but 99% of them are super intelligent. WHY ARENT THEY TALKING ABOUT THAT. also - queen is being remade and the telugu and tamil version have tammana and kajal aggarwal respectively. the movies are gonna be about a telugu and tamil girl finding themself so WHY THE FUCK CANT THEY CAST AN ACTUAL TAMIL AND TELUGU GIRL ??? i am so annoyed urgh and these stupid movies always have these stupid ideologies. and yes i know and agree that sex sells but that is only because the fucking industry has conditioned the audience to only watch movies where women are conditioned and sexualised.

A few years ago I saw a bollywood movie about a woman (who was a teacher) getting sexually assaulted by this random guy. To him it was her ‘punishment’ for talking back. So her and his family decided that they should get married. 😱 And in some weird way, this movie had a romantic ending. Which is very unrealistic.🤨 Turns out in some cases this really does happen in real life 😞 Not just in India, btw.

After 200 years I'm happy to say our brown ppl are SLOWLY being represented on ads, most recently a KFC ad ;( But, I hope this is just the beginning of something. Also, I need to see more indian/Asian models on the worldwide catwalks and campaigns... I hate Victoria's secret but they had a show in shanghai this year and only 6 or 8 Asian models?! So love your videos and I agree. I am Mexican American and live out here in the South West United States. Latin influence is strong here, but it is the same, where fair skin is put above more brown skin. In Spanish soap operas or movies the leads are fair and the darker girls are maids, cooks, or lower class working girls. It's been like that forever! It amazes me how different nationalities are so similar when it comes to "saying" what is beautiful. Even here in the United States, African American girls are told that fair is better. This to me is the oldest form of racism. Hopefully it slowly changes, but for now, us brown girls have to stick together. Love you so much. ❤

I'm so glad that you were brave enough to address the things that you said in your video, it's not just even Bollywood, it's everywhere it's people's old mentally of thinking and belittling people let alone women, girls and women these days need to learn that beauty comes from within not from the clothes that they wear the fake hair the fake nails or fake tans just the wholehearted love that they have to give to people in general. You're always so positive and upbeat that's one of the reasons I watch you. Keep up the hard work and stay the way you are!

I love you. I love your skin, I love your voice and everything that's come out of your mouth in the last 15 minutes and 21 seconds. what you are doing is so important. Talking about out thoughts and opinions is one of the most important steps into fixing these issues. we just need to keep battering people with these extremely logical questions and eventually, things will change. thank you for saying these words.

Everything you mentioned is what I found so alienating about my family's culture. I love the language and stories, the food, the clothing, the big, strong family networks....but I hate how women are treated in film and how dark skin is apparently the worst physical trait. *cough* Amy Jackson's whole career *cough* I found it really helpful to find indie Tamil films. Real plots and real acting. Even if the story isn't my usual cup of tea, it feels downright healing haha.

Loved this video Jovita! I really enjoy these chatty videos and hearing your opinion on such topics. You said pretty much everything I feel about Bollywood. Some people take it so seriously. It's such a scary thought that so many people look up to the characters of these fictional films and adopt certain behaviours and ideas portrayed in the movies into their own lives. The list of problems with majority typical Bollywood films can go on but I do accept that it is slightly adapting, not fast enough however. I think people who watch these films should be more aware about why things like stalking, molestation, subordination of women and heroic masculinity are wrong. Hopefully Bollywood adapts to more open minded ideas about society soon. But loved hearing your opinion, it's good to speak about these things to spread awareness. x

Sometimes I want to cry because of the love they give and the love they don't receive in return. I love you, Jovita because you are proof things will change and are changing. Omg 😂 movie makers got burnt. I am south indian ,you may know in some of the movies they told like girls are like this and that, they love you for your money and if the boy's love failed they can do whatever they want like they verbally abuse the girls.even after the guy insulted her in every way she still fall for him. in some movies they portrait girls like piece of crap , I was like dude are u kidding me I know nobody is perfect but these kind of portrayal really needed.its just want me to rip off that screen

I say the same thing about Tamil movies. The guy literally full on stalks her and then they fall in love? Like that does not happen; especially if she doesn't even know the guy. And I also couldn't get my head around Dabang. He literally followed the girl wherever she went and emotionally blackmailed her and her father. The father even killed himself cause of his guilt. Now that was just sickening.

I totally agree with you. I have watched movie reviews that says the heroine looks like side character because she wasnt fair enough.. even in malaysia cinema its the same thing. However, i found singapore dramas and short films have tan and dark skin girls as their main cast which I personally adore and look up to.

I seriously have the same opinion! It’s very sad. 🤭 I have a lil thing to share as well. So here goes.. I hadn’t watched the movie Dil Wale Dhulaniya Le Jayengey and it’s really really hyped! And I didn’t watch it ever cause it’s realllllyy not my type but one day it was being telecasted on tv so I was like, “hmm let’s see what’s the hype about” and I watched ONE scene which happened to be where the guy(shah rukh Khan) is literally forcing the girl (kajol) to may be go somewhere with him or something (I’m not sure) but they were at the train station I guess and the guy pulls the girl’s clothes (around the arm) to forcefully catch her and her clothes literally tear off!! I mean what? Howwww? How can you portray such a thing! (Low key molestation) you have such a big platform! Do something helpful/positive. Portray something inspiring instead of this crap! Anyway, that was the only scene I watched from DDLJ and I don’t think I’ll ever even try to watch that movie again. #grossedout 🤮 btw you look absolutely gorgeous, LOVING the look you created! Hope you have a great week ahead! ❤️
@moz2479
@moz2479 6 жыл бұрын
Oh my gosh! I thought the exact same thing about DDLJ too. I think its way too overrated. The one scene which really pissed me off was when Kajol and Sharukh were locked in a train compartment and he was straight on harassing her by staring at her and lying on her lap. Like dude, she doesn't even know you!!! Cause of that I still haven't watched the film, and I don't intend to. But what surprised me was that the film still airs in Mumbai and loads of people go to re-watch it. Like I heard that a person has watched it over 30 times or something. What are people doing with their lives?!!

Oh god! How jobless is that person! And if that person is coincidentally reading this then (which I really hope they are), dude! What’s wrong with you! Why are you living under a rock? There are so many better movies you can watch! Even if they’re Bollywood! 🤭
@khintanu
@khintanu 6 жыл бұрын
Lol this is a bit overrated, she fought back against his crap in the movie and was also mean to him at times. It was a lot of what people do in the beginning of relationships (stupid things). I think if you continued to watch the movie you would see that and it’s one of my favorite cheesy movies. But having said that, I hate the scene where he lies to her about what happened over night. It’s not funny and unnecessary.
@artiagarwal3144
@artiagarwal3144 6 жыл бұрын
khintanu oh my gosh! I’ve watched that scene too!! There are so many little scenes like those in the movie which are unnecessary and misleading! And that’s my point! As we all know how influenced does the audience(specially in India) get by the characters of their favourite actors/actresses, why not portray something inspiring or chivalrous at least!

I absolutely love all of your make-up tutorial videos! Your perspective regarding skin shades in India and the mentality behind darker shades is also quite interesting. Though I was not born in India, my grandparents were. I was told they migrated to the West Indies from South India, as many others did in search of economic freedom. I am from Trinidad and it's quite interesting to see so much of the same similarities in thinking when it comes to skin. I totally agree with you. God loves as just the way He created us! End of story. Thank you as always for sharing from the heart!
