It is not everyday that I listen to a man talk about one of my favorite franchises in such a passive agressive tone for over half an hour, present an entire library full of objections and good criticism, yet somehow make it more entertaining than any comedy show I've been to. I honestly love this. Good stuff, mate. Take your time with your videos cause these are treasures.👍

One thing that always bugged me Is the dinosaur count on the island. Which will later be retconned as ‘Oh we had more there just not open to visitors.’ At the very beginning it’s stated that the park only has 20 species, 14 herbivores and 6 carnivores. So Clare’s speech about saying “no one is impressed by dinosaurs” Open the other attractions!? The I-Rex is a good idea but the Carnosaurus was considered ‘too aggressive for public’. They had started with 8 species…and had been open for nearly a decade. John’s original 93 would have opened with 24 or more if he didn’t have budget issues.

Your rant warms my JP-loving heart. However one correction; Archeaornithomimus was posited by Claire as a hard-to-pronounce name for kids to say, so she's clearly referencing that species, not the Indominus Rex. Archeaornithomimus was even added to Jurassic World Evolutiom I and II as a nod to the line.

I'm gonna protest on that "shockingly well made Dimorphodon", cause that is easily the single worst design in this entire fucking franchise. They essentially gave it a theropod's head, when the real animal would've had a rounder, more puffin-like beak. It was also a lot smaller and, generally speaking, a piss poor flyer that would've been unable to keep up with a flock of Pteranodon, let alone menace a human being that'd be able to punt it with incredible ease. And of course there's the fact that they were essentially built to eat small animals like insects or lizards, which is to say, again, they would not be capable of severely harming a human being, not to mention they should be a lot fluffier. They didn't make a Dimorphodon, they made a gargoyle that is completely unrecognizable as a proper pterosaur. And I do mean that, pterosaurs have always suffered more in their media depictions than dinosaurs, but people always point out the Velociraptor and T.rex as if the pterosaurs didn't look like they were ran over.

13:40 When Michael Crichton, was writing the Jurassic Park novel in the late 80s, he had Deinonychus with the Velociraptor name because his main source for Jurassic Park, was a book by Gregory S. Paul titled "Predatory Dinosaurs of the World" and in that book Paul claimed that Deinonychus was just a type species of Velociraptor. Michael Crichton went with this taxonomization in his book which from my understanding, even at the time most paleontologists were skeptical of Paul's taxonomization, but by the time the movie rolled around the name had stuck and was not corrected. And about Utahraptor. Utahraptor was WAY too big, Deinonychus even if a bit large in the movie was a much better choice for what they wanted them to do in the story, in all honesty Utahraptor was built more like a small Tyrannosaur with how huge and robust it was, and Utahraptor wasn't even discovered when the first book was published. And lastly about feathers, they simply weren't possible to incorporate at the time of making the movie. Jurassic Park Novel, 1989, Page 129: ”What do you know about Velociraptor?” Grant asked Tim. He was just making conversation. “It’s a small carnivore that hunted in packs, like Deinonychus,” Tim said. “That’s right,” Grant said, “although Deinonychus is now considered one of the Velociraptors.”
@minecraftdinokaijumdk9923 ай бұрын
Also, by the time Utahraptor was discovered, the film was already either in post-production or already released. Same year, but the film released earlier than the creature was discovered. Either way, it was too late to change the Velociraptors to Utahraptor.

I can never rewatch jurassic world i cant deal with the lack of commonsense and un-uniqueness and before anyone says it. Jurassic park in-universe has substantially less lack of common sense and even then is centered around Nedry not one of our protagonist. Also keep in mind that back in 1993 dinosaurs were only representated like they are in the movie and even tho they did the same for the Jurassic World movies they probably just wanted to keep that same old vibe. But ye great talk and i partly agree. (im so mad istg) ((im not actually mad tho))

Just a bit of constructive criticism, but could you try explaining WHY the CGI looks bad to you? I disagree and think it’s one of the only things that really holds up about JW, but when you just say “It looks like shit” with no footage or even screenshots to back it up, it’s hard to see where you’re coming from. I want to understand your perspective and why you think it looks bad, but you never really explained it in words or provided anything.

The thing that made Jurassic Park so good at least for me was the aesthetic like the the retro aesthetic, even if it wasn’t trying to be in the dinosaurs are actually scary. They’re suspenseful and Jurassic World doesn’t have any of that. It’s horrible. It’s gray lifeless, unsuspended, annoying characters plot, holes, Jurassic Park three is better than the whole trilogy of Jurassic World combined
@gargoylekitty6 ай бұрын
I owned(maybe still have?) a copy of the book that included a preface that explained the raptors were based on Utahraptors and is at least a decade old
@The_Dinosaur_Heretic2 ай бұрын
They’re not? Utahraptor wasn’t discovered when Crichton was writing Jurassic Park, and wasn’t described until the film was well into production and couldn’t be retroactively changed. Crichton used Velociraptor to describe Deinonychus because he based Jurassic Park off a book called Predatory Dinosaurs of the World. PDOTW was written by Gregory S Paul, who’s had unique opinions about dinosaurs for as long as he’s been writing about them. This includes lumping Deinonychus into Velociraptor because he thought they looked similar enough. Crichton, not knowing any better, chose to put the novel Velociraptor antirrhopus in his book. When adapting Jurassic Park, Spielberg had the option to fix this mistake, but instead ran with it as he thought Velociraptor sounded scarier.

Jurassic Park, brilliant film, with up to date science, with the following movies even adding onto that (parental care in tyrannosaurs for instance in JP2), JW nostalgia bait that depicts real animals as not good enough so they need ridiculous embellishment. Honestly, best thing to come out of it in terms of story is Camp Cretaceous, and then mostly just because the characters arent absolutely dull and infuriating, instead being decently likeable with half decent arcs and growth. The cartoon could do that, but the huge mega-block buster movies couldnt... Also, yeah Zara's death is insanely disproportionate. You have good people die in earlier movies, Eddie in the second most notably, but thats presented as incredibly tragic. Best thing about the movies is Bryce Dallas Howard is hot... and seems like a pretty decent person... also hot. Good bum

I absolutely despise reviews that are just recaps of a film and don’t dare to actually examine what’s wrong with the film, instead opting to nitpick. There are major flaws with Jurassic World, but you either approach the subject matter too shallowly, completely miss genuine flaws, or nitpick at aspects of the film that are in fact thematically relevant or have explanations in-universe. I also despise people who claim to care about scientific accuracy, and yet continuously make mistakes that can be easily researched. Just a tip, not all sauropods had whip-like tails, it was only the diplodocoids; it’s currently debated if diplodocoids used their whip-like tails as bullwhips, with the most recent evidence suggesting their use as a tactile communication device in herds; the Velociraptors in the film are based off Deinonychus which was more appropriately sized than Utahraptor, as the latter is built like a small tyrannosaur; Utahraptor wasn’t even known at the time Crichton was writing Jurassic Park and was described deep into the production of Jurassic Park and couldn’t be changed retroactively; the morphology of the Velociraptors most closely match Deinonychus anyway; Ankylosaurus was NOT known from everywhere; Ankylosaurus is known from one 15-20% complete specimen, a far cry from the nearly complete animal you suggest; the Ankylosaurus in Jurassic World is horrendous, having incorrect skull and club shape, incorrect osteoderm orientation, incorrect number of toes and claws, incorrect limb and extremity morphology, and incorrect tail morphology and biomechanics; the Dimorphodon is also one of the worst designs in the film, featuring the boxy head of a theropod, incorrect wing morphology and biomechanics, and lacking pycnofibres/feathers; and dinosaurs weren’t as clever as the movies portray them, but they were far more intelligent than you suggest. Do better
