Fellow hobbyist here… I ended up paying more for my range of “pre-Festool” sanders than the Festool one. If I’d know how crap the other brands were and how nice the Festool is - I’d have just bought it from the start. Same with some of the other tools - had several routers break and also ruin projects before getting a Festool router and instantly knew the hype was real for a reason. For me the first Festool purchase was the TS55 tracksaw - the gateway drug into the Festool obsession - hands down the best buy ever and I would recommend it 10/10 for anyone wanting to sample the brand. Thanks for the review!

Great perspective. I personally think that it just depends on where you're at in the process. When I started woodworking, money was a limiting factor. Now that time is more of a limiting factor, I'm upgrading my tools for efficiency and enjoyment. But then there's other people who would rather just use planes! You bet! Thanks for watching!

If you want another machine that's orgasmic to use: the mafell p1cc jigsaw (cable version). It's build like a tank. An already used Version just kept going in our shop with abuse from countless apprentices, and still cuts as accurate as a track saw, even 40mm solid beech, 90-45° cuts perfectly. I use it maybe 20 times a year at home, but it just makes me happy each time

I hated sanding before I got my ETS125. My first Festool was the DF500 soon followed by the ETS125. It's a sweet sander. Now I also have Rotex 150 and Rotex 90. Next ETS EC150/3.

I don’t know why everyone hates sanding. I have always enjoyed it. Even hand sanding didn’t bother me back before I had a ROS or 1/4 sheet sander. I guess there must be something wrong with me.

Thanks for this video. I was on the fence about spending the money, but you are right, you get what you pay for. I got a WORX for my hobby sanding and burned it out, then a rebuilt Bosch; it died 3 minutes after using. I have lost more time doing research and waiting to get money back. I am going with the Festool. I will keep you posted as I may just be a serial sander killer.

Protip re: making cleaning house fun: this can also be solved with a power tool. Beg borow or steal a Stihl BR-800 backpack blower. If it gets blown away, you probably didn't need to have it in the first place. A hundred thousand landscape professionals cannot be wrong!

What dust collection are you using with the ETS 125?
@nwbuilds
@nwbuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, nothing right now. A festool dust collector is on my list, but the mft table took priority. I do run a wen air filter whenever I'm sanding, and between it and the dust bag on the sander, I find no layer of dust that settles.

I have all 3. ETS 125 is the place to start. Rotex is a different animal. Will really hog material off like a belt sander, but is a heavy, two-handed tool. Bosch knock-off is good. I bought it when we were sanding the exterior of my house and needed to keep two going at once. But it's not the ROTEX.

i can't help but say that there aren't many good sanders out there that are budget friendly. Those that fall under that category are only good for rough work or demo/removal type of job, then you finish off with a high end sander.

Check Bosch GEX 18V the best cordless orbital sander on the market right now for 125mm discs then there is Mirka (better than festool) but if u rly want to see a difference u should use 3M Xtract sandpaper .... festool sandpaper in comparsion to 3M Xtract is like the cheapest sandpaper u can buy (literally ...tested myself and i use hundreds of discs) vs premium one it is crazy fast and make your job way easier in the same time it last 5x longer , is 3x faster nad cost almost 50% less (if u add to it that it last at least 3x longer thats mean its at least 5x cheaper than any other sandpaper) but dont use it on corners at the begining when u learn how to use it because it can get damaged easier than average sandpaper (because its mesch not 100% ) 3M Xtract is based on 3M Cubitron II , u can get it in 100% filled version (not mesch like Xtract) 3M Cubitron II 775L that last longer but isnt as good as Xtract (still avesome) but dont get easly damaged on corners if u press to hard

Sebastian, we all have our preferences and opinions and I'm sure the Bosch is a nice sander. Which Mirka sander would you compare to the Festool ETS 125, as Mirka has no 2mm or 2.5mm orbit 5"/125mm electric sander? A fairer comparison would be a Festool ETS EC 150/5mm to a Mirka Deros 650 CV/5mm. The Deros 650 CV can change between a 125mm and a 150mm pad but Festool doesn't offer the ETS EC 125 in a 5mm orbit. I have the Festool sanders and the Mirka, they are both great sanders that anyone would do well to have and use. Any difference between the two is negatable and is really a matter of personal preference. And as far as sandpaper goes, knock yourself out on that one, but might I suggest trying a better-quality sander, any of the afore-mentioned Festool or Mirka sanders will sand appreciably better than the Bosch. I have owned several Bosch tools over the years, (going back to the 70's) and they were outstanding. But my more recent purchases (JS470EB-jig saw, GCM12SD-miter saw) have shown a severe decline in quality. Both were either returned or sold and then replaced with Festool equivalents, and not by choice, but out of necessity. Bosch isn't the top tier company they once were, incredibly sad. All the Best, Chuck

I have looked into the 3M Xtract and you are on to something. 👍 I have ordered some 150mm/6", I like Mirka Abranet, but it really looks like the Xtract is so much better. Thank you for info and All the Best, Chuck.

I knew that was the reason you hate Festool. These tools work so well for the seasoned professional and the person just getting started in woodwork. Yes Festool is "expensive" but you get what you pay for. I do suggest picking up the basic Festool tools from the start - as in sanders, tracksaw, router.
