I love wheel spacers, but i hate people that don't assemble things with grease, oil or anti seize

Simple case of galvanic corrosion... aluminium on steel. As to why the nuts where rounding... who knows. I have never really encountered wheel nuts that round-off (except of the locking ones). I guess maybe because of standard nuts are large 19mm+ and also quite long... so there is always a lot of surface to put the pressure on, and perhaps spacer nuts were smaller to fit better, but even then one should be able to put loads of force even on 17mm nut.

It's still a mystery as to why they were so tight. They literally seemed as tho they had been welded in or had been absolutely drowned in locktite 😂 no copper grease behind it or anything, so they were installed dry which doesn't help matters. Either way, we managed to get them off and I think it's safe to say I won't be getting new ones. Correct size wheels and tyres are the way to go
@lp92803 ай бұрын
@@ConnerRhysuk well, galvanic corrosion is exactly that - that is why they were like "welded". But even then long breaker bar should be all it takes. Having lock tight, even strongest one on wheel nuts actually would prevent galvanic corrosion, but generally having anything on nuts is not good idea, because that alters the torque and you can easily stretch the bolts. That said it seems the nuts themselves were of poor quality material which could not withstand the torque required to undo them. That is the thing I have never encountered.

The reality of being an enthusiast working on the drive - not many others show this side (frustrating failures) so hat off to you for being open, filming it, editing it and sharing it. All the best with your continued investigations. Cheers, Kevin

Hunting noises is the worst thing! Especially because the most random adjustments can fix or cause it and it can feel impossible to place where it's coming from. Top hat nut of the coilovers not being tightened down enough on one of the rears was a recent headache.

@@matthewnicholas6365 that's why we had to break out the grinders cos we tried that and it just rounded them off even more 😂😂

@ConnerRhysuk I had a nut stuck on an e46. Ironically before I fitted spacers. Used 2 powerful air guns and they did nothing. Used a 1/2" breaker bar with snap on wheel nut remover and it snapped the head. Mechanic ended up getting a massive one out, think it was a full 1" drive and that ripped that nut clean off. I was so satisfied. Also happy the wheel only had a few dings rather than having to be cut off.
