@@jasonstallworth,well of you like your RG1570, you will love the Genesis RG550, the V pickups sound very very beefy. I have been playing Ibanez for years and years and still my favorite model to this day is the RG550. Not to mention when Ibanez created the Original Edge tremelo ut set a new standard for trem systems. By the way I totally love both of your albums and work out to them regularly, not to mention the play on words with the song names.

They are not bad. Have three Ibanez with these pickups. Only things I noticed that they dont really take low tunings well. Also I've had this beef with all alconico pickups that their power chords sound weak in sense of metal compared to ceramic pickups.

Yep you're right. I ordered an RG550 genesis and I got it today. I ordered a set of Dimarzio X2N and Air Norton ahead of time to put in the guitar. Well after playing for the last couple of hours I have decided not to change out the pickups because the stock ones sound fantastic IMO. They sound similar to a Dimarzio Super Distortion I have in a Kramer, a little warmer on the lower strings but the higher notes sound incredible with tons of harmonic overtones. I guess I have to buy another guitar to put those extra Dimarzios in lol.

Hey man, good for you dude!!! Not every “stock pickup” needs changed because it’s stock!….kinda like every engine in a car does not need pulled and swapped!….plus there are now literally Toooooo many pickups out there and too many that are not THAT different from one another. Stick to what you dig and how it sounds with your specific rig. I have a pile of guitars and have recently stopped messing with my pickups (and wasting a lot of time and money) and been running with what I have. And, I’ve been enjoying it honestly. I agree, the V7 is a great p/up. It might have something to do with Ibanez selecting a ceramic magnet for the neck. It seems counter intuitive to use an alnico at the bridge and a ceramic at the neck. Honestly if both were ceramic I wouldn't have swapped the V8 with a DiMarzio Super Distortion. The Edge Tremolo, the Wizard II neck, and the Japanese QC make the RG550 difficult to beat at a grand.

I went out ahead of time and ordered a set of Dimarzio pickups to put in it and after a couiple hours of playing decided to keep the stock pickups. I love the sound of the new V8/V7 pickups, a little warmer on the low end but where it really shines is on the higher notes when playing leads. Nice rich harmonics to boot. They sound much better from what I remember of the old V8/V7 pickups from the early 90's (I had a couple old RG's back in the day with those pickups).

Long story short. In 2007 I picked up an Ibanez RG-470 with V8, V7, and S1 pups from a good friend for ridiculously cheap; it was very ugly bronze and highly corroded. 3 months later he was killed, so I never even touched the guitar. Last year (2020) I decided that I owed it to his memory to get it playing. I completely disassembled it, sanded it down and refinished, did a deep clean on the components and reassembled. I was thinking that I would eventually upgrade the pickups.... But after setting it up for optimal playability, I decided that changing the pickups wouldn't actually be an upgrade, but merely an unnecessary change, I actually love the sound of these stock pickups! That project was so gratifying that I began learning more and more about the instrument... In the past 12 months I have now completely redone 13 guitars, and have built 3 from scratch! Rock on brother, KEEP IT METAL!

Same here. Bought a rg1570 prestige and instantly made me playbit more for the way the neck feels in profile, the maple/rosewood response back in my hand, resonance and the clarity and balance of the pickups. The bridge could use a bit more gain but it may be a losing battle to other features. When playing clean, the bridge and middle pickup (position 2) sounds awesome. The closest I find the V8 pickup sounds to is the Evolution series dimarzios. Doesn't surprise me and I would think Steve Vai has some influence on the Prestige line back in early 2000. If you find the right distance V8 to string distance it sounds glorious....except...needs a bit more gain. I bought a Premoum RG6 that came with Tone Zone and such.....very well balanced across the strings.......IF.....you back the pickup way into the body as far as you can and even push the pole screws back in on the pickup itself....but....in doing so you lose volume. The bridge pickup on a modern premium is waaay to hot and lacks that high end clarity. The V8 has a high mids scoop and the Tone Zone has a highs and lows scoop and sound raspy. They have their place but I just cannot get that pickup to sounds great. I toyed with the idea of installing my spare V8 in my premium. A seymour duncan custom custom may be what I need.

I have a bunch of Prestiges with the Ibanez Vintage pickups and Dimarzio Air Norton/Tone/True Velvet/Dreamcatcher7/Rainmaker 7/PAF Pro and I just picked up a 2003 RG1570 where the previous owner appears to have put Dimarzios in them (one unknown humbucker, one unknown single coil, and what appears to be either a D-Activator X or an X2N). Honestly, I am not fussed about which pickups are in which guitar at all. They all sound great. And when I am at band practice or at a gig, no one in the audience is going to care. All the pickups I have came with the guitar except for the Dreamcatcher and Rainmaker. I bought those in white for aesthetic reasons and because I wanted to replace the pickups in the RG7321 I used to own as the Infinity pickups were a little muddy to me. I am tempted to buy a set of V7/S1/V8 pickups to restore that RG1570 to stock specs. There's just something so 2000s about an RG Prestige with a dark finish and V7/S1/V8 pickups.

Hey Jason hope all is well! Maybe not a proper topic here but for a beginning novice like me was curious about all these multi effect pedal units (Some pricey!!!) like the Headrush etc! Do you use them? Familiar with them? Worth the investment for someone like me (retirement budget bedroom player)? Don't want a lot of pedals (no room) and totally all confusing! Just want different tones/sounds without constant changing limited amp settings! Amp is a Marshall DSL40...maybe a demonstration video if possible? Be cool if Replay Guitar had classes or something for beginner/tech dummies! Love KZbin but man is it overwhelming!

I hear you on not wanting a lot of pedals. The last processor/pedalboard I had was the Line 6 HD500 and that was a pretty awesome unit. I've never played through the Headrush but I have been considering going with something like the Helix or Kemper, or something like that. Even gigging, it's kind of a pain to lug around an amp and I mostly play smaller venues.

I always had an impression that most people change stock pickups only because everybody say you have to! But when I ask people - what was lacking in stock pickups so you wanted to replace them? Nobody ever answered me anything other than something like "Dimarzios (or Seymour Duncan) are better!". But how exactly they are better? There are dozens of models with very different tones. I actually like even Quantum pickups in cheap Ibanez guitars. I have several Ibanez guitars with Quantums, and I replaced them in most of guitars, but decided to keep them in one, and I love them as much as other pickups I installed. I believe you never should change stock pickups if you don't know what exactly you want to change in your tone. Otherwise it can be just waste of money.

Now on the .the matter of pick ups, a good set is hard to find because you cant try them out in your own guitar so easily. The clean sounds are really wonderfull tho.....
