Thanks for sharing your experience. I've had the opposite journey, started in Reason and moved to Ableton Live. However, I couldn't ever completely leave Reason because it's so damn awesome. Thankfully, today with the Reason Rack Plugin, you get the best of both worlds.

true, but that is also one of the main things why I never felt like using it like it. Because it feels like having something on a life support system to jank it somewhere else. As I mentioned in this video, I also own phaseplant (which is a modular system on its own). I barely use it anywhere because it's like using a modular system inside something else while I have a daw that can do that for me. I personally prefer a modular route that integrates it. Ableton can do it, I know, but this is more a hidden feature then having it 'upfront' and in your face. If you know what I mean. Other daws (eg: studio one, Fl studio, cubase) totally ignore the modular route. They just want to invoke the VST route. And this is something I really don't like. Sure, I'll admit for some the RRP route would be a thing to do for some, but it never really worked for me to be honest. But like I said, this is a personal opinion.

Really glad to see you back into Reason. Reason is a unique daw and workflow, and your videos have always been awesome explorations into different and often innovative techniques.

sorry to hear about your loss. Yes, I can totally agree on the 'it can change people' part. I have experienced it the hard way. But in the end it is all about recovering, moving forward. I will try to explore things further, there are some things I have written down I want to do. But overal I also read a lot of comments here and there so sometimes I just need to side track here and there ;)

yes other daws have some unique features. That's one of the main reason why I love to visit them to figure out if I can translate it back and forth. The scene launcher is just one of those things, and I tend to make a video about this in the short term. Happy new year ;)

Thanks for the videos. I appreciate your videos and am happy to see you're back to reason. May 2025 bring you happiness health and good fortune.

cubase is cool as it is, but from my experience. cubase totally took a u-turn to totally throw that part on the VST route. Reason tried to do this with it's Rack Extension format. was it perfectly executed? No... I still have some questions about it. But from a sound designer perspective, cubase didn't really work for me either. I have tried it, but it didn't really work for me.

This is hitting me pretty hard at the right time. I have been using Reason since v1 and I have always considered it my "primary" music software. About 3 years ago I invested in Ableton Live Studio and I DO love it, BUT... Reason just seems to work the way I think. I wish this were not true since Reason has a lot of shortcomings. Bottom line is, I never stopped using Reason and Im using Live a lot less.

I originally bought reason 2.5/live 2 from a friend that i worked with back in the day, i upgraded both and use live mostly until record (remember that?) came out with reason 5 - i've stuck with it since then up until 12 which i'm happy with, i tried 13 but i'm not ready for that as i already have a workflow that i don't want to change.
@reasonexperts8 күн бұрын
the workflow of reason 13 is different, I know. So stick with 12 if you are ok with it. I had some mixed bags of feelings why they changed things on the workflow deparments though. Nowadays I gotten a bit used to them. But like I said, if you have your thing nailed down, then don't change it. Edit: and yes I remember record. That was the audio version that also came with the line 6 plugins that were abandoned in reason 8

Sounds like you've been through some rough waters over the last few years, but I'm glad to see you still going with the whole Reason thing. I've also gravitated back to Reason after switching to Cubase Pro where I often use the Reason rack plugin these days. I'm no fan of Reason+, but I did upgrade to 13 and then purchased the missing players and instruments when they were on sale recently, so the only thing I'm missing from + are the sound packs (at least for now). Anyway, that said, I agree with there being too many synth options out there, and am working on reducing the devices in my toolbox to what I see as the essentials. Enough rambling, all the best to you, and wishing you a successful and happy 2025 🙂
@reasonexperts8 күн бұрын
Personally I am not a big fan of the + thing either, I have a license for reason myself, and all those additional things that come with the + thing do not really bother me that much. Sometimes I just grab the additional things (such as a chord sequence player thing I got recently). But without the additional goodies, reason works fine as it is. I have a suite license for ableton myself and I started to realize that I have a bunch of additional sample packs that go with it, but I never really used them. I prefer the less is more approach eventually, because having to many things can also be overwhelming at the same time. I just want to get stuff done ;) happy 2025!

The one thing I wish Reason would address is screen reader support. This Ableton are now doing and is why for me Live 12 is more usable than Reason 13. Which is a shame as I have been a Reason user from the start (ReBirth) but now my sight is almost completely gone, making Reason usable without screen reader support is virtually impossible. I appreciate not everything can be made accessible but Reason is getting less accessible with each release.
@reasonexperts8 күн бұрын
have your addressed this issue with reason support?
@johnsexton80828 күн бұрын
@@reasonexperts Thanks for getting back to us, I think I first raised back on V4 but more recently V11 where I even gave some ideas to extend the Remote SDK and add a few more top-menu items for CV/Audio rooting. V12 introduced some more issues as the new GUI limited screen reader access to just the top-menu then V13 again introduced more issues making it difficult even to use NVDA OCR making the browser even less accessible. I appreciate RS may not have the skills required to improve accessibility but why not look at collaborating with others or even taking on someone with the skills. I have offered to help out but I'm not an app dev, although am a web dev, so understand programming concepts. I've tried to build web apps to work with Reason Remote to give speech feedback but this is limited by Remote, MIDI and web tech.

Ever since Reason released the plugins, I’ve tried every DAW. I love Reason in standalone but I’m still having issues with its browser. I’m using Logic and there’s a few things it’s awkward at, but like Reason, there’s so many instruments worth exploring. Also i find it to be really CPU friendly with the M1 chip. That’s the main draw for me.
@reasonexperts7 күн бұрын
yeah, I can imagine that the browser thing can be a thing. I have found myself a work around when it comes to this. Because personally, I find this browser quite confusing at times. The main idea I am going for right now, I have a folder structure nailed down. And this one is at top of the rest (call it _something, and it sorts at the top). By doing it like this, this becomes my go-to browser folder. Personally, this should not be a thing, because they (as in RS) started to focus heavy on the 'user library'. And the issue I have with that (as I also stated somewhere in my impressions about reason 13 not so long ago), is that that thing is the default. But I don't want it to be my default folder. I want to select my own. So I made that statement, in the hopes that reasonstudios picks up this feedback and does something with it. Because the arguments given about the browser is an on going topic. So, if you have issues with the browser, I would suggest get in contact with ReasonStudios their customer support. Report a ticket on why you are not happy with the current browser and why it isn't working for you. And address your points. That is the best advice I can give about now.

Hi Hydlide, I quite agree with you. I think a DAW is just a tool in the hands of a craftsman. What really counts is what happens between the two ears and the experience gained over the years. Ask any carpenter worth his salt, and he'll probably tell you that his tools are an extension of his hands. Reason/Ableton/Reaper/FL/... are just toolboxes and workbenches. You know Reason like the back of your hand, so why change? I watch your videos to see a craftsman doing his magic.This is so satisfying. Just my 2c. Have fun 👍

@reasonexperts7 күн бұрын
these issue can sometimes be tricky, because it totally depends on the build of the hardware, how much ram you have, what type it is , sound card etc. etc. That is an issue with computers in general. This also happens in the gaming scene.
@@HOLLASOUNDS nope it doesn't. Hyperthreading is still an issue. I won't be going in to details because I did a comparison from Europa as an RE vs Europa as a VST (back in the days). This is a different story, I don't want to address here, because.... well. there is that. It's in the past sentence. @reasonexperts8 күн бұрын
As a content creator it works a little bit different. I have learned myself to engage with the community simply because I am making content for that specific community. If you just make music to make music, it doesn't matter which community you want to trigger. So from that point it kind of makes sense that you wouldn't really want to reach out to those communities. Because on that end it only matters what type of music you make.

Happy New Year my hero! I’m sticking with your well presented videos. I’ve made some nice music with reason without fully understanding what I’m actually doing and I’m starting from scratch again. Now where do I start???
@reasonexperts7 күн бұрын
Kind of depends what type of music you produce. Mostly I start with the heart of it and build around that part. So if you making something electronic like, I would start with a form of clever melody or a bas line where you can build the melody on top. If it's more pop / hip hop genre, I would mostly start with the chord progression or beat. Because those will mostly make the song work. Ambient sounds track often are build up by using evolving sounds, so that would be the ground work there. } But like I said, it often depends on the type of genre

I personally skip updates from now on. I recently moved from R10 to R13, so that was kind of a big win for me. I'll be honest (and I think you can relate with this one), but the updates of RS haven't been really ground breaking from release to release. I came to accept that, so hence I made the decission to just skip an update or two... I like some changes here and there, there is still room for improvement.
