Inspiring story...I'm 40 and finally making a change after all the negativity that comes along with it. I have a daughter who is autistic and I'm afraid of leaving her. Child support and all, but I need to make a change. It's my time. My gut is telling me I have to do it.

Hey there Wes, First off, thanks for some of the good videos of Colombia you've shared. I've been wanting to visit the country for over 20 years now since I was a young 20 year old. I have to say it takes a lot of courage going out there on your own and damn impressed about it. I'm expecting to finally arrive around late June or early July. Excited. Be safe, enjoy the experience and continue living the dream brother.

As a side hustle, you could totally start a US -> Columbia transplant/travel company that’s hyper-focused on Asian Americans in Los Angeles (or big metropolitan areas) that are looking to expand their world and to give them courage to pursue their dreams. I think what you went through with your dad is a very common experience with Asians born outside of their native country in the West and definitely, not everyone has the courage to leave (or know where to start to leave). It especially becomes even more complicated when you’re a girl. You could easily build a network of local homestays and businesses, hell even have a mini tour company once Covid restrictions loosen so that other people can also meet each other. With your charisma as well as mastery of the local culture and tongue, I’m 100% sure you could do it.

Wes I keep coming back to this video bc Your situation is so close to what I’m going through rn. I’m frustrated living at home, I’m the same age and I want to move to Colombia. I got this crazy idea to do it before I turn 30 but I’m afraid to leave behind my career and my friends/family. I’m about to complete grad school and I have a good job lined up but I’m worried it’ll just be more of the same boring 9-5 grind living for the future and a paycheck. There’s also a chance I won’t complete my grad school so I’m planning my out. I’m aggressively saving, investing and researching bc by next summer I might make my escape to South America. Wish me luck and thanks for this video!

I am now living in chapinero in Airbnb as a trial run. I'm here for 1 month now. I was living rurally on a farm with a friend all the way at LA Mesa area. I decide to move to the city to discover more about Colombia and learn more Spanish. Your story inspires me. I was planning on doing this in between jobs, which was round April of last year. Then covid came and no one knew what the hell was going on… I still plan on taking some time off and staying a couple months in Colombia when my lease is up. I would love to improve my Spanish. I can obviously do that here in south FL, but it’s so much easier and you see much more improvement when you’re in a situation when you know the people don’t speak English. Anyway, great video! 👍🏽

Wes, nice you are able to travel to Medellin and enjoy Colombia. It takes guts to travel and make a change by yourself. You are still young so enjoy it. As an Asian married to a Colombian for many years I realized that both in the Asian and Latin culture the family and the respect (more in terms of valuing their input (don't necessarily have to accept everything verbatim) for your elders (including Suegros/Suegras) is one of the most important things in both cultures. I hope over time you will realize that. Enjoy your time in Colombia!

honestly it was a fight about nothing. It started with something small like olive oil but it usually is just a catalyst to explode to verbal abuse.

Hey Wes because of recommended channel that randomly pop on my feed. I found a guy with a similar story as yours a Argentinian young guy was in vacation in Japan and due to the pandemic got stuck there and ended up living in Japan. Here his link. kzbin.infovideos. And seeing some of your 1 on 1 interviews with other ex patriots I can recommend you interviewing Asian Hispanic youtubers Growing up as Asian in Latin America and some live in Asia and they feel more Hispanic than their parent home country. One I can recommend is Japatonic Lite. Most of them lived in Argentina, Brazil, Peru.
