Food for thought: Remember that California versus the other states are the way they are because of their fiscal policy. When people move out from California, they should consider a change to their policy mindset. If people moving out from California want to keep their old ideals, they need to remember that it comes at a very high cost. A large part of these ideals and fiscal policies are driven by the voters. Some would argue that how one votes can impact fiscal policy.

Are you basically asking Californians to leave California's ways in California?
@pstwr4 жыл бұрын
Yep, California has a huge wealth gap issue. As usual, California is just a little ahead of the curve, but as you see more Tesla's and Peloton's pop up in your area, watch out for the wealth gap issue to rear it's head in your neighborhood. You'll see the rich Californian's taking their wealth out of state to avoid the taxes. They'll take their wealth "creation" businesses to your area and enhance the wealth gap. For example, if a wealthy real estate investor leaves LA and heads to, say, NV, they will gradually pull local wealth up to the top. They'll outbid local investors, raise prices, and then rent those properties back to locals at higher than current market prices. In summary, if you hate what you see in California, you might actually hate capitalism. Because what it does, in the end, is push all the wealth to the very top, leaving the vast majority broke and destitute.

This is how some Californians have in advantage. Their dollar works harder in California. When they move into a state with "proper" income tax and policies their dollar can afford them more opportunity. This is a positive for them but a negative for the natives that live wherever the migration flows.
@Vejitasei4 жыл бұрын
@@rosethorns1893 Partly true and partly not. Prices are but one way to ration things that are of limited supply (ie. water front homes). But they are not the only force at work. There's also tax policy, zoning rules, laws and regulations. San Francisco has horrible regulations, that basically require you to build low income housing as part of your new development AND very high hurdles to get approved to build anything; won't allow high rises, etc. The end result is that the only way to build a new building that is profitable is to build super luxury units. BUT then you have the issue with low income units (and the politics around gentrification). Prices for beach front will always be more than desert. BUT what's really driving the costs up in CA (to astronomical prices) are the regulations, taxes, zoning, permits, etc.

Sounds like gentrification to me, California price increase is coming to Las Vegas and other affordable cities.
@Vejitasei4 жыл бұрын
@@edwinalvarez1619 Gentification comes in multiple forms. If more people start moving to LV then prices will go up. However they will not necessarily increase to CA level. The main issue in CA isn't the number of people that want to live there, but the horrible regulations. If LV has sound policy the. Prices can increase but need not be astronomical. For example, Charlotte and Nashville are major cities but the cost of living is way lower than San Francisco, Chicago or Manhattan.

@@rosethorns1893 I don't disagree :) But that's not gentrification per say, just standard issue human stupidity. I'm actually at a cross roads politically, because if people keep voting for these fools then that means they make up > 51% of the voting population (I know that voter turn out is horrible), which means that this crazy train has no brakes :( If that's the guess it's going to be soon be time to move; and ultimately might have to move up retirement / ex pat...
@edwinalvarez16194 жыл бұрын
True but will the cost of living eventually price out locals given their income? It need not go to CA levels but it can go high enough to price someone who makes $30k-$45k I've seen it here in NYC. We seem to be at a crossroads as a nation. We need to rethink what kind of society we want as a nation instead of 50 states doing their own decisions all the time.

I have heard a story from someone whose family lived in Vegas that one may want to consider before moving out there, particularly if you are not well off. As Graham has stated here, most of Nevada's revenue comes from tourism and not residents. This has the side effect of the needs of residents being treated as secondary to the needs of tourists. The example from the story is that a resident was beaten quite severely by a tourist and the state did very little to go after or seek justice against the tourist. It can leave people who live there feeling like second class citizens to those that visit.

It's a bit more complicated than just "dEmOnRaTs bAaaddd". California has plenty of problems, but the profits they bring into the nation carry other, less prosperous states.

@@aloevera3317 "It's a bit more complicated than that". Yes, yes its. However that stereotype does comes from somewhere. I do need to ask, are those "profits" really worth it? Can a state be profitable AND not be the shithole everyone hates?

@@aloevera3317 I'm sorry, it's not more complicated than that. Half of Graham's video was dedicated to ridiculous zoning laws, taxes, and regulations which caused California to become unlivable in. All three of these things are 100% controlled by the government. Don't act like the California government isn't the reason that state is going to hell. Just take a look at Texas. Texas is booming in EVERYTHING - tech, ag, energy, etc. and it still remains the most livable state in the nation. Oh wait, did I mention Texas is DEEP RED? Literally has one of the most extreme right wing governors in office right now with a republican state senate, and EVERYONE is moving there. So yes, it is that simple. Democrats and progressive politics/culture have destroyed California. The only reason Oregon, Washington, and other blue states are surviving is because there remains a strong republican presence culturally and in office to balance out the left's insanity in those states. The day your state has little to no republican representation to balance out democrat insanity, you can kiss your state's ass goodbye.

I moved from Las Vegas to San Diego and never looked back. I think any "new" place you move to is going to be exciting, at first. My problem with Vegas was mostly with the fact that it's not a good place to raise a family. The heat, the seedy parts of town (which there are MANY), the exorbitant expense in visiting anything on "The Strip" and many other issues I had with Vegas will come to light for you...eventually. Until then, enjoy the lower taxes! 😎

@@Holyshiszle California has been losing more people than gaining in the last 20 years so I don't know about all that.
