Graham as an audio engineer who has made many studio build outs for friends and myself over the years might I suggest owens corning 703 homemade panels for your podcast room and ceiling. Not only are they more effective for what you were trying to do with the foam they will also look much nicer in your beautiful home. My solution would be to remove the flow restrictor. Now that I'm over fifty I can say I remember the days before the EPA forced shower manufacturers to limit the flow to 2.5 gallons per minute. Once that design flaw is fixed, it's just a matter of turning the water down for the middle of the shower, then going full blast to rinse. It can make the average shower much shorter--great if you're in a hurry!
