If you're at a crossroads in your career and not feeling anxious about your current role, this video might be helpful to you! I explore my career history, how the mentality of 'wanting the next thing' led me to my most recent role, and how personal/professional values conflicts can lead to #anxiety and #burnout. I talk about my prioritising my young family, and reevaluating what's truly important to me in my life.
I am someone who has always been highly ambitious; a work-horse and willing to put in the hours. After going hard at my career for 10 years, I've decided to redirect my energy into areas that give back to me.

Hi Anne, I recently came across your content and really enjoyed it! You're doing an amazing job. I was wondering if you could help me with some guidance as I’m preparing for HR roles in Australia, I’ll be moving there in the coming months or by early 2025. I have experience in recruitment and HR operations, and I’m curious to know if any certifications or short-term courses are necessary to boost my chances of securing a job in the HR field. Also, do you know of any companies currently offering remote opportunities in this area? I’d greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations you can share. Thanks so much in advance, and have a great weekend ahead!

@@Acbdfeds heya! Thanks for stopping by. Most Australian businesses will look to your working experience over qualifications. The fundamentals of HR are relatively unchanged across markets from what I’ve observed. That being said, if you do want to upskill, I recommend having your existing qualifications assessed to see if they’re comparable to Australian studies. That way you don’t have to invest in studying all over again! There are a few services that offer a free assessment. As for remote - when I find one I’ll be applying myself haha! I don’t see many of these opportunities pop up. All the best!

Hi Anne thanks for sharing your journey with us HR professionals. I wanted to ask if there was ever a time you worked for an employer whether part time/ full time as well as practising HR consulting as a side hustle ? What would your advice be on those looking at heading down that route in their HR career?
@annefloreskepu

@@keekzsm320 I have for a short period of time, and I would not advise it! Working in HR you aren’t able to just switch between employer/ client easily, because the work you’re doing can at times be all consuming. Managing the expectations of your client/s while also managing a full time HRBP/HRM job is a quick path to burn out. Practical sense - you could be working on launching an engagement survey as well as driving annual performance reviews, and then your client is phoning you in hysterics for a redundancy process they botched up. It can be overwhelming. However - if you only stick to email advice with clear SLA’s (service time frames) it’s far more manageable, but that might not be as appealing for some businesses to work with you. It could definitely work - I just don’t recommend it if you’re in a high responsibility role with an employer and working with complex cases for clients at the same time.

@@annefloreskepu thank you for your response, this is great information to know and have as up and coming g HR professionals. Is there a specific exam or a certain level of qualification that one has to ascertain in order to be able to practice as an HR consultant ? Would you be able to give your thoughts on the best pathway to this for when we do finally work up the courage to venture out on our own as consultants ? If you have or ever run any masterclasses on HR related topics I would pay money to learn from you. So thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us in this platform which comes at no cost. Shows your level of expertise and heart for people, much appreciated.

@@keekzsm320 Cert IV in HR is always a good start, and would strongly suggest at least 2-4 years in HR business partnering before consulting. You can find yourself liable in litigation for advice you provide clients! And thank you - so kind. Sign up at bestillconsulting.com.au to be the first to know when the course drops 💃🏻
