There are not many benefits to living abroad as an American citizen since the country is taxed based on citizenship unless you can generate significant money while staying in a foreign country. So I think the best place to live is where your family and beloved one live.

What people need to do is to obtain multiple passports, or give up US citizenship.

Singapore is a tiny island. Everything looks great the first year or so and then it becomes repetitive and restrictive because there isn't much to explore. A good place to work but life gets mundane as time goes by

Rubbish. By your reasoning, every place is repetitive.

@@guru6831Except the majority of the countries are not a micro sized island city. Most of the night life centers around the town area and it's tamed compared to Thailand and Philippines, there nothing to do around HDB housing areas except food stalls and shop houses. Due to land constraints, there's little greenery left as most of the land are used for tall buildings. Singapore is a great city to work but entertainment and scenery wise, there's nothing much to see and do.

I agree with you. My wife and I lived there for 17 plus years with two kids. Yes, we just worked and worked and didn't go anywhere. There is no place to go anyway other than the usual tourist haunts like Sentosa and MBS. And it is so hot and humid so that the best you can do is to hide in your office and enjoy the free air conditioning. It is great to make money though.

@@ViolentCabbage-ym7ko Wherever you go, all you see is HDB blocks. You can't really tell one part of the island from another. You have to really see the road signs to tell where you are. It is indeed very repetitive. If is like a country made of lego blocks.

hi adrian bro, if u don't mind, do add India to ur itienary within this decade. The Indian economy is booming and the cost of living is the lowest here, even cheaper than Vietnam. Bullet train construction is going on and Olympics construction is going on.

First of all Emily... CONGRATS ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP!!! WOOHOO!!! I dont know about others but i was really hoping you would find someone soon, in Singapore or elsewhere. U just seemed to be searching for someone to share your life with, especially as your age changed. 🎉 Secondly, time does make our perspectives change. Perhaps the 3yrs in Singapore made u realised what u lacked, or what u were looking for when u 1st left SF... Love & perhaps a Family to call your own. U Do U, whatever makes u Happy, your YT fans will always cheer u ON!! ❤ Lastly, u look Great in glasses!! Haha perhaps u can let your eyes rest more n ditch your contacts. 😂

It's pot luck sometimes when moving to a new country. There's cultural and lifestyle factors. There's also how people react to those potential changes. If you weren't able to forge genuine connections in 3 years, then it's understandable that homesickness and the lure of what was familiar becomes attractive. A new country, whether by choice or for career advancement, does not guarantee that it's going to be everyone's cup of tea. To each their own in the end

Singapore is good for tourists. But after a week or 10 days, everything gets old and life there is extremely boring. that is why Singaporeans themselves don't like to stay in their country. They actually travel a lot to North America as tourists.
@TheFangGirl

Do they go elsewhere like Europe or Asia? My Singaporean friend recently visited me and she said a lot of her friends were worried bc of all the shootings in the US

@@TheFangGirl They go to Taiwan a lot. By the way, you should've gone to Taiwan for your sojourn. It is the country your parents are from, and you can find a lot of family and young men with common interests with you. I lived in Singapore for 17 plus years and didn't make any friends. But I was married so I didn't need to make any friends. Singapore is a great place to make money, but not a country you want to put down your root in. We left and went back to Canada.

not being able to find stability (relationship, permanency, community) is the biggest reason expats cant stay longer here. if you are even slightly "different" then you are gonna have a hard time! of course some are lucky or try differently and manage to get settled but that's not majority cases specially these days...

Americans get taxed wherever they go I never really understood why Americans choose to live in Singapore so far away from home considering they can t even get advantage of low taxes…. Singapore is small and yes boring and repetitive, unless you go like every single month at least to a trip somewhere around you will get suffocated in Singapore…People stay when they are paid a lot and because they don’t pay much taxes compared to their country…
@TheFangGirl
@TheFangGirl 3 күн бұрын
That's a good point, but America also has dual tax treaties with certain countries. Additionally, why stay in one place your whole life? With remote or hybrid work, I can work anywhere I want to and/or want to explore countries outside the US. Just because I was born here, it doesn't mean I'd stay there for life

When you have a family 😢singapore is far better than many western countries. People come to singapore for monetary n career improvements, not your childish reasons like seasons n forest . You gave up a chance to be in Singapore, thus it’s a difficult country to return back to as many foreigners wants to come to Singapore but not everyone can.
