Robin, When my wife of 44 years passed away, I sort of went crazy all I wanted to do was run away. I was watching KZbin when I found your comments, and right away I went down and purchased a Class A 25 ft Motor home. I subcribed to your channel and you are a fountain of great Ideas. @@christinewillis8739, please see if he is willing to travel part time. Life is too short to give up on your dream. My one regret in life is that my husband wanted to travel the USA and see national parks and I said wait until I am 62 so I can collect early social security. He agreed. He passed away in September 2014, one month before I turned 62, unexpectedly, from multiple strokes and a blood disorder we knew nothing about. I will never have the chance to travel with him, and I regret waiting.

Thanks for this. I feel like watching your journey has been the catalyst for my own. I loved the idea of hitting the road as a nomad, like Technomadia or some others on KZbin. But I would never have actually done it. I'm a single woman, empty nester with a good job- it was fun to dream about though. But when I saw your channel, your story, when saw a solo woman nomad making it work. . . Now I'm writing this from my new RV, visiting my daughter in Texas. I'm going to visit my sister in Florida and then my other daughter in Arizona. And then I'll do the whole thing again. Because I don't want another year when I call family on Christmas and say, "we have to get together" and never get to it. My amazing sister Stephanie died from endometrial/ovarian cancer last year. She was stage 4 when diagnosed, and was told she had long odds, but if she didn't treat it she had maybe 6 months. So she took the surgery and chemo route, and I took leave from my job to be with her and help her thru the chemo. Well, she died 6 months after her diagnosis anyway. All that chemo was useless to her, because apparently she was 'platinum resistant.' We all think we have time, that we will go places and do things when we're retired. No. We can't live as though we have time. The only time we can count on is this very day. I took early retirement and I'm going to visit the people I love, while I have time. Thank you for what you do on this channel. You have helped me see that I have options, that I don't need to work 10 hours a day until I'm old and only see my family on vacation. You really make a difference. Thanks so much.

Your story really hits home. I'm not on the road yet, but am in the planning stages. In 2006, I did a small contract job for a map company. I was on mostly back roads for 3 weeks, doing just over 9900 miles. It was a game changer. I decided after that, as a person who loves photography, I would spend my retirement just driving around exploring the country and taking pictures. In 2011, I was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Right now, I'm relatively healthy. I have 2 animals that don't really get a long in a confined space, so a permanent road trip won't happen for a little while. The 4 legged kids come first and they and they are getting to be seniors (cat is 13, dog is 8). But I'm getting my truck set up for some long road trips and camping with my dog. I'm going to start picking up gear now and when the time comes, it'll be time to roll.

I am sure your sister is smiling down on you! Thank you for sharing your story. I feel I am getting closer to being brave and living my life the way it was meant to be lived. I started watching the nomadic lifestyle about 4 years ago. Loved camping and the outdoors all my life, but always thought I would have the typical life, college, MBA, corporate job, blah, blah, blah. I have never used my MBA and was working a thankless corporate job, and well underpaid. Over the years my soul started to feel empty. I completely dreaded getting up in the morning, but justified that I liked my co-workers. I found my attitude started changing, and I was no longer the helpful Heather I used to be at my job. I started to become someone I was not, unhappy, depressed, angry. Oct 2017 I bought myself a used little self-contained trailer, even though I was set up for long term camping in my suburban and tent trailer. Then Jan 2018, RTR, I decided to go, just me and my dogs. My family was worried and thought I was joining a cult! LOL! I told my boss I using all my two weeks vacation that I had just earned and I was heading to the AZ desert. He wasn't too happy with me and replied, "you really are going to use all your vacation in the first month!?" and is said "YUP!" with a huge smile on my face! Long story short, I knew I was supposed to be living this lifestyle. I pushed my luck and extended my vacation a few more days without pay, my boss was not happy with me. I can go into a ton more detail, but this is already long. I just knew I needed to quit the corporate life. I had decided I was going to go back and give my notice. I got back to work on a Thursday, all of a sudden telling myself all the excuses to back out of quitting. Things were rocky already at work since we were bought out a year earlier and we were all waiting for the big changes to come. An hour after I got to work, our team and multiple other teams were called into a big training room, there were a lot of people called to this meeting. They were laying us off. I sat there and literally smiled. I could not believe the universe was telling me so clearly to follow my dreams. Anyway, I am still not full-time on the road. I am struggling with my home, and whether to sell, or rent. I admire your courage to go out there and live life to the fullest. Every time I hear a story like yours, I am reminded that I need to stop getting stuck on certain things that are holding me back from living my dreams. You are an inspiration to me! Again, thank you so much for sharing your story and I apologize this is such a long message! I hope to meet you in the near future!

I love those Carado Axions! Wish they made them in 4 wheel drive so one doesn't have to worry about getting stuck on some sandy or muddy road. But what a great layout! Wishing you lots of luck in getting those warming feet INTO one of these units!

I gave up on my dream of a van because of time ,effort.money and stress until i was walking through a car park one day and happened to stop and talk to two ladies.They had taken a normal van and changed it into a camper.I bought a old minibus,did it up as a camper and spent the next 7 yrs having adventures,loved my big van.I now have a smaller van which is a homemade camper too.This one can get under barriers, fit in a car space and doesn't attract attention like my big van used to do,people were always stopping by for a chat and a look inside lol.

I am so sorry for the loss of your sister at such a young age. But what a gift your sister gave you. Insight to live your dream. You have NO IDEA how similar my story is in that I have no real camping background, but I put my house up for sale, got a bid, just had the inspections and am waiting to receive the reports TODAY! I'm not going to give it away, but I soooo want this to happen. I also have a business degree with a professional writing minor. I'm 62 and would love to do some writing of my own. I have scouted out rvs and have a professional rv inspector lined up to check them out for me. God how I hope this house sells and I can hit the road running! Your videos and insights have been priceless to me. Your willingness to share it means so much! Thank you.

Thanks for your sharing your story. In the last two years, I’ve lost my Dad, Mom, and only sibling, my brother to cancer. Then experienced Hurricane Michael. So I feel like I not only lost my family, but then the hurricane erased our hometown, and took such sweet memories worth it. My husband and I decided to sell both homes and all our belongings and buy a motorhome. We’ve always loved traveling and exploring everything around us, so that’s the plan, just hope we can get through the destruction, so that we can move on with our lives.

Love your positive energy and information! I've been planning on full time RVing for the last 6 mos with my 10 year old son. I have done research almost 25 hours a day 8 days a week (seriously). I fell in love with the idea (fantasy) when I started watching KZbin videos and soon left fantasy of the idea behind me and started learning the reality. Fast forward to today and I have a contract on an RV as we speak, I have my solar panels ready for install, the self composting toilet, homeschool is all set & some other boon docking money saving essentials all ready to go. I'm tying up loose ends with packing then I'm going to boon dock local to my area in my daughters driveway for a week then my local national forest for 14 days and then start branching out from there. I'm SO EXCITED, somewhat nervous and a little scared. Your videos have been instrumental in many of the "REAL" things I need to consider, thanks so much. Warm wishes and safe travels to you. Keep doing what you do, you are wonderful at it!

"Accidental camper" I love that! If someone were to ask me to if I like to camp I'd say no because I'm not in a tent. I bring my home on wheels to a campsite but really don't consider it camping. My husband is going to hike the Continental Divide Trail 2019 leaving this Thursday. Now that's camping and I don't want any part of that lifestyle. You GO GIRL!

Oh, Robin, what a great tribute to your sister. I lost one of my sister’s this year and Robert lost his wife at 46 to cancer. I am so proud of your sister! She is with you! If you mentioned her name, I missed it but am sending spirit love her way. “The accidental alien camper” ... that’s perfect. I thought I would be out here and do nothing but write. I have not found that to be possible because of all the “work” we do that you mentioned. Robert is 48 and this is his fulltime business/work. I wish we had spent more time with you while we were camped with you. I’m sorry we did not. May I ask ... how is the writing going with your work? I just published my 2nd book (and Robert will publish his 5th this month) but we struggle still to find time to write. Just wondering how you balance it - if you don’t mind sharing. My fav thing about fulltime on the road (4th year now) is the peace and quiet in nature. It is healing for me. Love and hugZ to you!
@CreativityRV
@CreativityRV 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, D! So sorry about your sister and Robert's first wife. We know first hand a happy retirement and old age is not guaranteed. Glad you two are doing well. And, I SUCK at balance. I'm working on it. I've had two people this year I didn't know knock on my RV door to do a "wellness check" because they hadn't seen me go outside. When the writing and work is going well, I work a ridiculous amount of hours. Then I take a break for days. It's not the healthiest route, but I'm working on it. How about you?
@TwoMeander
@TwoMeander 5 жыл бұрын
Yep, Robin. That sounds about right but I've never had the wellness knock .... oh wait, that's not true! I just remembered - my friend Judy checked on me one year after not seeing any activity for awhile as did my friend Kyndal. LOL. I'm not sure they would have done so though without my tbi health issues. I thought I would get out here and be a health nut - long hikes, yoga 2-3x/day, etc. AND ... that can be done - but not while working with Robert on a digital nomad business - as you well know. Yep. I suck at balance too. It is catching up with me. Not sure what to do about it yet though. Next year I hope to write a book each quarter - 4 in one year! oy vey! But I fear the old clock ticking. Blah blah blah. It is what it is and I'm rambling. We're also teaching a seminar at RTR this year. I know that will be a crazy busy time but sure do hope to spend some time with you Robin. Much love, sincerely, d

Robin, I’m sorry you lost your sister! P cancer is what woke me up to just what’s really important too! There are very reasonable rv parks that older ladies can stay in if Boondocking full time is too much. Check around and get the lowest rate you can, while still having some standard of cleanliness,etc. that way you can still afford to travel part time while having a home base if you’re tired or not feeling well. I can stay where I’m at for what my monthly fuel bill would be if I was driving around looking for places to stay. Friends,activities and privacy. People still have a camping attitude and don’t invade your space. Then If I want to go to a national park or the coast for a few days to boon dock and dry camp and not feel like I’m wasting money. Just a thought. There are alternatives if someone thinks they can’t do it full time like me. I love that are sharing so much of your life. Thanks!

I absolutely believe that if Americans were not forced to work at a job place from 8-6 that we would work better, happier, and accomplish so much more. I'm sure that the many jobs you hold now do not feel like work at all because you can work at your pace while enjoying your day at the same time. I was hoping to attend the RTR this January but due to a bad Lupus flare I'm afraid I'm not going to make the drive from Michigan. You truly look happy and I'm happy for you. Take care and safe travels 😊
