There is a great saying that goes something like "Haters are my motivators". Which I think is so true when you think about it. When people "hate" against you, nothing drives you harder to become successful despite their mean spirit and words.

I watch and subscribe to quite a few channels on many interests. Without a doubt RV channels are the biggest complainers about haters and trolls. With only a few channels who complain the most. If I don't want certain people in my life I ignore them and never talk to or about them. Last I heard channels can delete the comments they don't like and ban them. With that power there is no reason for haters to be a problem that I can see. Unless they are being encouraged for the drama. I don't have a channel so it's all bizarre how 95% comments I read and videos I watch the word "haters" never comes up. This channel has over 100k fans, she should be laughing at any hate comments and ignoring them. Instead of shinning a light or mentioning them in her video's.

@sailingsolar

@@ellevanroamer487 " If you’re not traveling more but working more, live in a house." That makes me wonder what life style would larger RV's be best suited for? Can a person wish to travel less but still be justified to want to be more mobile than a home prohibits? The fact that there is a wide selection of mobile units offered and are sold suggests that not one or two designs serves all living styles. Selecting one over the other does not make one hater if they voice that in comments. Viewer on the other hand will comment from their specific frame of mind opinion or view point. I've observed that simply stating an opinion that differs to channel's opinion is not well received and construed as "negative " , when I viewed it as offering a differing opinion. Certainly people can take criticism as a good thing and others cannot. When is a comment hating and when is it simply stating an suggestion that maybe a choice was not the best in the poster's. I'm simply asking this, would a content providers ability to take criticism be a factor as to whether they perceive their comments have more hatters when other channels feel they have less haters and as such never complain that they have them??? What prevents this comment from being perceived as being penned by a "hater" as opposed as one that is received by those who don't want it considered? It is a difficult topic to even comment on because of that.

sailingsolar She started her channel as part of the “cheap rv living” youTube community. But she no longer qualifies as such because she kept upgrading to more and more ostentatious rigs that doesn’t fit a nomadic and affordable lifestyle. Am sure lots of people are jealous because they can only afford a converted van or SUV but mostly, scratching their heads and thinking “how is she relevant to what am all about?” Or at least this is my assumption.

art crone - Hear, hear - I adamantly 2nd that. I loved your RV with the Murphy bed - but just not enough storage and workspace for you to do the type of work (skill sets) that you have. Boy, you have had a whole lot of new to deal with in a very brief time!!! You are something else - very talented and gutsy. I think it would take me quite a while to learn how to drive (and feel confident) the Murphy bed RV you had. You are really brave. I would have trouble driving the truck, let alone pulling a 5th wheel. But you will master it because this is a much better arrangement for your life style. You will have a separate vehicle from your home now!! That is what I like about it as well. You can now drive on roads & see things you could never have driven on and seen before. The very best of both worlds are now combined.

I'm a single, middle aged woman. In 2015 I went to an RV show and fell in love with the idea of having a trailer. I camped with my parents in a TT as a kid and loved it, but had never done so as an adult. I bought an F250 and a 35 foot travel trailer. Learned a ton going to state parks and various places on my vacation days as I still work full time. Then I found out about a group of Open Range (my TT brand) heading to Alaska in 2019, and I was dying to go. But, I really didn't want to pull a trailer that far and my gas truck struggled on hills. I got permission to leave work for three months. Traded in my 250 for a diesel F350 crew cab long bed, which is my daily driver too. Traded the TT for a 34 foot fifth wheel. This summer I drove it over 14,000 miles. And let me tell you, it was the most amazing thing I've ever done. Such an adventure. Since I started camping I've heard the cliches about solo women. We're supposed to be in a MH, etc. I didn't want a MH. I have now towed up and down mountains, onto ferries, on gravel, through snow, driving rain, and dense fog. It's all in your attitude. Like you said, if anyone else can do it, I can too. Have fun out there.

My thoughts. Which mean nothing to anyone but me.... 1. As a firearms instructor that has counseled and trained untold numbers of victims of violence, you CAN'T prepare for every single possibility. So you minimize risk as much as possible, and practice Situational Awareness all day every day. Form a plan should something happen, and practice that plan. Then live your life. 2. Who gives a shit about what other people that don't know you think about your life choices. You're killin' it girl. Keep killin' it and let the haters go pound sand. 3. We've been RV'ing for a while. The reality is that I've never met anyone that stayed in one rig for the whole of their lives. Part of the joy IS trying new ways to camp. 4. I'm assuming a 1%er is the top 1% of wealth owners. What's wrong with someone being successful and making money as a result of that success? If you're wealthy, good for you! If you're not, good for you! 5. Camp like you kiddo. Love your channel.

YES! Well said! I would like to pick your brain if you don't mind. If you happen to watch Nomadic Fanatic, he just recently posted a video about his new method of protection which happens to be legal in all states. I can't remember what it's called, but it shoots something that puts off an awful smell and I imagine it hurts whoever takes the hit, but it won't kill them, just stops them long enough to escape a situation. Any thoughts on that? There are just so many gun laws and traveling through so many different states, I'm thinking this might be a good means of protection. Thanks! Tammie

"4. I'm assuming a 1%er is the top 1% of wealth owners. What's wrong with someone being successful and making money as a result of that success? If you're wealthy, good for you! If you're not, good for you!" Ah, that isn't a 1%er. I know there are people who tend to conflate "anyone with more money than [them]" with 1%er, but generally, the "term" refers to people who feed off of the rest of the world, and hoard wealth/money at the expense of everyone else. It's a term which refers to greed, and a disgusting level of possession - and frequently , but not always, refers to people who gain wealth by being born into it, rather than "being successful and making money as a result of that success." Think "Robber-Barons." Unfortunately, the separation between wealth is so great, that having a middle-class living looks like flagrant, excessive, un-earned, wealth, to a lot of people. Perhaps you don't agree, but a lot of people tend to think the "wealth distribution" between people shouldn't be such that a person -ironically- lives off the backs of others, and is somehow lauded as "having earned it." That said, I find it really bizarre that people think affording a standard vehicle-set, that's somewhat nice, makes a person a 1%er when it costs less to own, and is easier to obtain, than a standard mortgage, and even easier than some luxury apartments (while being nicer!). Just because it's nicer doesn't mean it costs more. Sometimes you just have to shop for a bargain. *shrug*

debunker300 Yes, wealthy people earned their money. Do you have any idea what an order of magnitude in difference there is between that and a 1-percenter? Those who are in the wealthiest 1-percent are the super-wealthy, the Walton family for example. Jeff Bezos. They make most of their wealth with earnings off of their wealth - i.e. investment returns. Capital gains. If you have so much money that you are making tons in capital gains, you should be heavily taxed on that unearned income. Your rich buddies will be paying themselves back for their great investment: it does not equate to working class people spending 100 percent of all income back into the economy.

We have run into the "clique" mentality in our years full timing. We have been told that because we often live in RV campgrounds for awhile, and sometimes stay in a house, cabin, or apartment, we aren't "real" nomads. Frankly, being a "nomad" isn't a huge goal of ours. But IMO being a " nomad" isn't about what you live in. It is about not feeling stuck in one place, and being able to pull up stakes and move when you want to. And maybe that includes a home base, maybe not. Maybe you do it in an RV. Maybe you rent places in different locations and move around. And if RVing is your choice, there are so many ways to do it. So whatever works for you is what you should have. And it sounds like this works for you.

This is a great comment - THANK YOU! I totally agree with you on the clique mentality online but not necessarily on the road because most of the time we aren't around f/t RVers, other than people who live for years in the same RV parks where we stay for a night here and there. Online, however, by both f/timers and people who have never done it, there seems to be this increasingly strict standard of what f/timing is. Why does it matter? In addition, the mentality against working while f/timing (which is what I do) apparently means I am not a true f/timer as well...? That is the only way I, my 13 y/o son, and my 4 big dogs could be f/timers! Anywho, just human nature, I know, but doesn't mean it's not frustrating. ;-)

Sewspcl, this has been on my mind too. I’m 71 in a few days & in NJ, my RE taxes are $5890 this past year & keep going up for a dinky bungalow built in 1912 that needs major upgrades to plumbing & electrical as well as a new heater. I don’t have central A/C either so that’s an expense. I could kick myself for replacing the full roof & siding for $24,000 ten years ago. I’m thinking of just selling as is & moving to either a no sales tax state (DE), no income tax state (FL or TN) or even a low income tax state (PA) that doesn’t tax my pension or SS & rent a small apt to continue downsizing. Rather than buy a Class C right away, I want to try a cargo van or a minivan while I have the apt & just take 2 month trips the first year or 2. I’ve lived out of an SUV so I know I could do that. Good luck on the road. Mo in NJ

@@TheLakingc Hey Lenore! I'm 68 and I have been through 2 knee replacements...I only wish I had done them sooner. But I do warn you that the recovery can be a bit difficult. You will learn to negotiate steps slowly and after a week or two. Don't try to overdo it. You will have Physical Therapy for about 6 weeks and I would encourage you not to miss these. You probably will need someone to drive you to the first couple of weeks, but after that, you will probably manage fine. Make sure you have some meals ready or else some good family/friends to help with food. (I had a great church family that looked after me and brought meals for 2 weeks! I was SO blessed both times.). I pray you do well!

Lenore Kingsley a lot of the newer 5th wheels have steps that go to the ground and a sturdy bigger handrail to help you walk up into the camper. There are several different layouts for bathrooms so that may be something you could change up if you decided on a 5th Wheel. You can always look on KZbin for 5th videos and see different models that way. But, with the higher ceilings and bigger kitchens they really give you more room to move around in. Good luck with your surgery.

Thank you for being real. I have been a nomad, in the past, and if I were to live on the road, fulltime, again, I would do a pull-behind option, like you have for many of the reasons you gave, especially when you've got to consider mechanical repairs. Those haters probably haven't got the experience you've had, because nomadic life does change and does teach you how you prioritize aspects of your life. I learned that I like to be stationary most of the time, because I like planting trees and gardens, so I switched to a modest manufactured home on a foundation, for now. I actually plan to go tinier, in the future, when I eventually go back to living alone, but for now, my situation works well. I was a vanlifer nearly 20 years ago, so to say life and living requirements change is very true. Your 5th wheel is gorgeous, and I hope you continue your honesty in letting us viewers know the ups and downs you experience in owning and living in it. Personally, as an artist, I'm curious to see how you decorate it, in time, with your own artwork. I am also interested in how you do your organization of your stuff. The hardest task of living in a small space is getting organized, but the easiest is living in a well-organized space, and that applies to all tiny home dwellers, whether nomadic or stationary. I always enjoy your content, and I look forward to your next video.

I love everything you do and say. I’ve had to ignore the people who have negative thoughts. I bough my first rig last Feb. A 26’ class C, 2006. Told my friends that I was going to go up the Oregon coast for 2 months. (I currently live in Utah). My trip was to find out if I wanted to move back to Oregon and live on the coast. I had friends who said “who is going to drive it?” I told them ME. They looked at me like I was nuts. I am divorced and single and 67 years young. You only have one live to live and I’m not going to waste another minute. On my travels I realized the 2006 was just too old , I traded it in for a class A 29’. I have enjoyed it very much. Decided when I got home that I wanted to live on the coast full time. My house is going up for sale next month, having an estate sale the end of April and taking off for Oregon. I did research on living in a RV full time and have decided to buy a Newmar class A 34’ when I get to Junction City, OR. The coach is so insulated it’s unbelievable. I’m so excited I can’t sleep at night but I have so much to do. Sorry I talked your ear off, but I love your talks and can’t wait for the next one.

Felicia Hazelton Climbing in/out of truck or FW? There are things you can do with either unit to reduce risk of falling. On FW change out the steps, stair railings, light weight portable porch that could be set up or torn down in a few minutes, wheelchair lift, etc. on truck you could add an extra step or two and/or grab bars. In both cases consider your footwear to be sure it’s not a hazard. Might look silly (who cares?) but could consider a helmet to protect your head in case of a fall. I’ve had two people in my family suffer significant head injuries from falls so I’m well aware of some of the risks.

When I was young (back in the 70s), my family lived in a 25 ft fifth wheel. Mom, Dad, 3 kids and a big dog. They taught us and we boondocked a lot! We had tried lots of other RVs before that - camper, trailer, class A, etc. my parents thought the 5th wheel was the best. Easy to pull, handles wind much better than anything else and enough room to be comfortable. Admittedly, they tried to go where it was warm most of the time so we weren’t all shut up in there all day! 😁 Anyway, congratulations! I’ve looked at that RV before and it is gorgeous! I’m so jealous! 😜

That’s one problem (among many) about some people is the old green eyed monster! They want what you have and if they can’t have it, then they’ll tear it down! It’s none of their business what you do with your money and you shouldn’t have to explain anything to anyone! I personally love your new fifth wheel it’s gorgeous and if I could have one, I’d want the same model. But, I have a sick kitty with IBD who doesn’t travel well and so I take care of her. I've been watching you almost since you started, and I know you have said many times that people rarely stay in the first or second or even the third RV they buy, because not only do they discover what they need once they get on the road, their needs will often change. If fly by night commenting harpies who haven't been paying attention to the channel want to leave their droppings all over the comment sections, let them, but remember it is not about you. It's some black and smelly thing going on inside themselves that they feel the need to let fall and then flap on to some other site. Since it's not about you or your life or choices, I think you are wise not to acknowledge them beyond a, "Well, bless your heart and go with God." :) Many happy miles in your new set up.

I have been watching you since your 1st rig. I am in my 60's and I envy your life. My husband retired 2 years ago and we started traveling the year before he retired. I've enjoyed watching you & love your life. I've also enjoyed watching you evolve, grow and change. You have given me a wealth of knowledge and I am grateful. Thank you for all you do! We purchased the Clam (I love it) Thank you! Our next big purchase will be a Berkey. My husband & I are on our 3rd motorhome. Two class C's and now a class A. I myself have been wishing we had gone with a 5th wheel for the room to live. When I discovered that you had gotten a 5th wheel I was thrilled and could not wait to see which one. Unfortunately I have yet to convince my husband to do the trade however we have not been to a dealer to look at any. I am hoping that this year we will get an opportunity to do so. Perhaps looking at some will help me convince him. We have a home on the southern Oregon coast but spend more time away from home than we do at home. I love where we live and cannot stand the thought of giving it up yet. I'm sure when I do we will have a 5th wheel. Congratulations on your lovely home. I'm so sorry that you had/have to put up with haters. Sadly haters love to hate. They need to have duct tape used on them. Have you heard? Silence is golden but duct tape is silver! One question before I go. What oils or scents do you use or is good to put around your rig to discourage spiders etc. from entering? Thanks so much hun. I cannot wait to see all you do to your new home to make it yours. Congratulations again!

You gave me the confidence to sell my house and commit to full-timing. I've been full-timing now for 3 years. I initially chose a Grand Design 5th wheel and am now transitioning to a Class A. I chose the 5th wheel based on lifestyle needs/desires and because I was afraid of handling something the size of a Class A. With time and experience, I'm less afraid, just concerned abt switching to a large bus, but like you said in this video if one person can do it, I can too. I know I'm late coming across this video, but congratulations and thank you so much for your videos, comments and insights.

I learn so much from you, even though I can’t be full-time for now. I Love the floor plan you chose! Your talking reminds me of 2005, when we picked up my van. We were at sons visiting and his car broke down. We had just picked up my Leisure Travel Van at the factory the day before. He wanted to pull car home with his tractor. That meant him on tractor, my husband steering car. Then they both turned and said who will drive the van? I about smacked them both.hello! I’m standing here. I bought the van for me. I previously drove a Toyota van. Duh , I’m driving the van, even though it had been hard to pry husband out of driver seat of MY van! Yes, I got in the van and had no issues. When you dream of something and know you can, you do! And last summer, as a new widow, I took off on three trips in that same van, and had a great time, with more to come. All the best Robin and Bot.

You do you boo! I'm so thrilled for you! Honestly, I always thought it a little strange that you had such small rigs given your RVing style (staying a place for several days). I assumed it was for that sense of security a single woman might get from the ability to jump in the front seat and drive away. A legit thought I think, but I have no idea because I've never camped single. Anyways, I think you're going to be SO SO SO happy in the 5th wheel and I'm happy for you! Take the driving, turning, backing up, and so on as slow as you need to. Once you do it a few hundred times, you'll be a pro! And if you're not happy with it in a year, trade it in for something else. :D I loved the tour and can't wait to see your solar set-up come to fruition too! You are an inspiration and a cool, intelligent voice of reason in the KZbins sea of ... whatever it is. Take care and enjoy your new rig!!

It baffles the mind that there are haters toward someone of your caliber. They ain't worth the time, for. sure. Girl, I actually got choked up watching this video, and I know it's way old by now. K getting choked up now: girl, you are an inspiration to me. I'm in the suburbs, doing my research on RVing and a tiny bit of sailing (on a charter). The respect I have for the work you put in..... I can't find sufficient words to express how amazing you are. I have gone through a deep depression over these last years due to family issues. My husband and kids have been amazingly supportive, and your vids along with another amazing sailing channel I follow are truly inspiring me to seek out my dreams. I don't think fulltime RVing is it, but most definitely part time is. And I have a digital notepad of notes from your videos. You are a university of information, insight, helpfulness, transparency (omg I could really soap box that), and then on top of all that you are so dang delightful! Robin, You definitely made the right choice for your rig and you're right; these choices are based on each individual's needs. Yes, part of the equation that goes into making the "right" choice is summarized by what your friend said, "Do you want to live or do you want to travel?" We still live in a bricks and sticks house, but we've enjoyed the RV camping life all our life. We even took the Life On Wheels RV instructional classes with Gaylord Maxwell way back when (two times). We started off camping in a small Arctic Fox 5th wheel, but we currently have a tiny home at Lost Lake RV Resort located close to Olympia, Washington. You're really helping a lot of people and I can tell from your channel your heart is always in the right place; you are a giver. Good luck and I wish you the best in everything you do!

We started out in a van and then upsized to a fifth wheel too... sometimes we really, really miss living the #vanlife, but you're absolutely right, for long term living and working having a bit more space makes life so, much easier! Loved this video, thanks so much for sharing!
