Great video Brandon! I couldn't agree more that Fi is the best international option. Nothing better than waking up in Nassau and automatically having service! I got H+ in Spain a couple of times. Was pretty exciting.

It does! When i first got the service Bahamas was BAD. It was very slow and wouldn't always connect without playing with the setting. VERY glad they fixed that and it just connects now.

Hey This is all SUPER helpful! SO, I'm currently in South Africa and wont be coming back to the states for 6-9 months. I had previously parked my # with Google Voice, then got Google Fi when I was in the US for the summer. Now I'm back in SA and know it's a matter of time that I'll get booted. Will my # automatically go back to Google Voice so I down lose it?
@TheWeekendCruiser2 ай бұрын
Hi Forry, I am not an expert on the cancelled google fi but my understanding is they will send you and email letting you know of the pending cancellation. This will give you time to port your number to a new provider like google voice.

I see that your country list included Turkey, but on the Google Fi website Turkey is not on the list. Do you know if it is indeed included for connectivity when travelling there?
@TheWeekendCruiser3 ай бұрын
Just double-checked and turkey is on the list. When I was there, it didn't do well between the airport and Istanbul but the rest of the time it was fine. If it did give me a problem in Turkey, I would go into airplane mode and come off and it would be fine again. fi.google.com/about/international-rates#T

Would you say this would save me a bit more money instead of getting an esim in another country ?
@TheWeekendCruiser3 ай бұрын
I would say it will not save me enough money to make the hassle of locating an ESIM and getting it installed. ESIMs from Aurlo and other online retailers are not cheaper. Granted, if you don't want to switch cell phone providers, ESIMs are a good way to stay with who you have and travel well internationally.

Out of curiosity, any chance you’ve used Google fi in China? If so, was the VPN required to be turned on before you go, or you can turn it on after arrival? I see that China is listed in their locales you can have service and data…I currently have Tmo and I did the 7 day Google fi trial, I had zero issues with it and I actually liked the app…very easy to read, simply laid out, etc. Thanks for a great video!
@flatt5853 ай бұрын
I need to know this also.
@Deetroiter3 ай бұрын
@@flatt585 hey hey, saw your comment. So I was there and can confirm that the phone service worked perfectly fine. I left the built in Google VPN on just because it’s an extra layer of security while being in China. Used it in a couple of other countries along the way and it pretty cool, when you go into the Google Fi app on your phone, it’ll actually automatically update a message box at the top of the app screen and tell you what country you’re in and also tell you what features you have that are covered. No guessing or trying to figure out what you can do with your data. Biggest thing I want to point out to you is that you need to go into your cellular settings in the phone and turn ON data roaming. You don’t get charged anything extra, it just actually allows your phone to locate and use data outside of the US. I couldn’t get data to work at first when I was in the first country outside of the US, after a few minutes of problem solving I turned the data roaming on and it was perfectly fine after.

I have not been to China. With that said, I was just over the boarder in Macau and did connect to the cell towers in China. I had no issue and it was a seamless transition.

Their customer service is beyond atrocious. I have only used Fi for one week and in that week they lost my 18 year old phone number (It ported itself out of my account somehow!?), this caused my account to close, which terminated my introductory billing credits (Which no one is willing to fix, or says they can't fix) so I don't get billing credits for my new phone purchase anymore. And ontop of all of this, I have had to fix all of my 2FA to a new number. I have spoken to three separate supervisors and not one of them has even so much as appologised. TERRIBLE PROVIDER. Good if it works I guess, but man if you have a problem, it SUCKS.

@clubware4 ай бұрын
Maybe it's better than T-Mobil but AT&T charges only $10 / month all-in for international travel. It activates automatically when you land and deactivates when you return to the US. So if you're gone for less than a month it's $10 total. It includes data & everything just like your existing plan. So whatever you pay on your existing plan, you still pay that as if you're in the US. You're just paying $10 extra for each month that you're outside the US. Easy peezy!
@rapinncapin1234 ай бұрын
