Always thought the extreme body shapes look way cooler than the traditional shapes. Extreme shapes make me pay attention to the guitar players using them and the bands they’re in when I see local and national acts live. V’s in particular are actually pretty ergonomic for players that play in classical position, as a guitar player myself. V’s have been my favorite since seeing electric guitars for the first time, so it makes me happy that I find them comfortable.

I'm addicted to pointy guitars myself, and as such have dealt with the diving issue for ages. Apart from moving the strap button (which I'm unwilling to do to my guitars) the best solution I have found is to attach a small pouch to the body end of my strap with the industrial strength velcro (the grey stuff) and fill it with diving weights. Adapt. improvise. Overcome! I'm still on the hunt for a WRXMG myself. It has a fast neck as well as all of my favorites as far as hardware is concerned, and is extremely similar to my Ironbird Pro in playability.
@TaylorDanley
@TaylorDanley 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that works too. I find if you use a heavy duty strap that usually resolves a lot of neck dive as well. If you don't already, check on my instagram... I'm working on something with a friend of mine that I think most pointy guitar enthusiasts will love!

I read or saw a video where a guy used weights that clip on wheels to balance tires . He put them in the control cavity. I forget the model guitar he had but he said a couple of those weights was all it took . I think he glued them in his but you could use Velcro or tape so it wouldn’t be permanent . I just thought that was a pretty good hack . I had a Iceman and I didn’t want to move the strap button for the longest eventually I got tired of the damn thing wanting to flip forward on me and moved it to treble horn if it had one LP style. I’ve never had a guitar nice enough to worry about an extra hole on the back

I felt in love with Jackson, it have a little cons as you mentioned like the neck diving, but once you keep playing with a non common shaped guitars, you start to even use those things in your favor, now I'm a huge fan of the V shaped guitars, and never imagined how a RR versatil could be, at least by now with the stick pick ups Im fine as mentioned for the type of music I play, but now I have a Kelly in my sight since a little bit ago, so definetely will be my next guitar, keep rockin man, greeting from Mexico

I used to have an epiphone explorer and, for me, it was more comfortable to play standing up than strat and super strat shapes because the shape and strap positions meant any neck dive could be easily negated. And I do like a high headstock playing position. That body shape is a handy rest for the right forearm too, thus preventing neck dive even further. I found leather straps the best for no slippage as well. I'm seriously considering investing in a Kelly and getting back into playing again. Partly because it's a similar shape to an explorer. Plus I want something with a Floyd if I do invest. My explorer didn't have a Floyd. It had a different bridge but it had a whammy bar, fine tuners and a retro fitted locking nut on the headstock just behind the traditional nut. One of the reasons I prefer passive pickups is you don't have any extra electronics to have to mess with. Your power chords sound a bit too sludgy and dissonant for my taste without the play along track. Almost as if your intonation is out. Either that or the pickups over distort the tone. Just one more thing. There's no guitar solo in that track you played along to. Don't you know it's a mortal sin to play metal without guitar solos?!

And a little bit of advice for those folks that have so much trouble with the Floyd Rose special Bridges. Adam at FU Tone has a couple of KZbin videos on how to set these up properly. Go watch them, over and over again. Until you get it. Once you learn how to do it you'll never forget it, and it will save you hours and hours of frustration. The only reason you have tuning stability issues with these Bridges is because you have not set them up properly. Take a little time to learn a skill. It'll stick with you for a lifetime.

IME most of the time I have issues with tuning on a FR, or more specifically it not returning to 0, is because of aftermarket "noiseless" springs. The silicone they wrap the springs in gets caught between then and will slightly drop your tuning. Once I started using the official FR springs, that went away.

Nice guitar man. I've been looking at x series Kelly's. I love pointy guitars. Lol. I've got five dean ml's. A couple are dimebag models. I've also got a couple mustaine V's, and a solar v. Out of my 25 guitars, my pointy ones are my favorites. I doubt I'd have to adjust to it. Loves the demo and review. 🤘

I always loved jackson kelly and thanks (or because of) to your video, i want one! Can you say me what is better between a brand new kelly X serie or a Ke3 from the 90's (i love the shape)? (and what would be a good price?), that will be my last hesitation!

It's a nice guitar but it's like you said cause I bought in 2019 a js32 Rhoads in white with black and visually is so good looking but 3 months with the guitar and I traded it for an ibanez cause I can't play with extreme shapes for me I can't find comfort for my right hand and forearm. I sold that ibanez in February this year and honestly I kind of regret buying that Jackson in the first place. I should have bought a dinky instead.

Yeah it definitely is an acquired taste, and I totally understand why more people don’t use them. I prefer my Solar in terms of comfort just for that bevel and where my right arm sits, that helps a lot!

I’ll say this for anyone out there who’s on the fence about this guitar let me tell you this guitar sounds as good and plays as well ( playing metal btw ) than any of my other much more expensive guitars including my cemetery gates Dime Razorback and my ZW Warhammer and keep in mind I could buy 5 or more of these Jackson’s at roughly 350ish for one of the razorback or Warhammer both are over 2k each ( not every model but mine specifically are specially the cemetery gates edition ) and like I said I promise you this Jackson sounds just as nice the transitioning on the razorback might have a slight edge other than that if you want to pay 5 times the price for it go for it but if you want a guitar that will play any of the popular metal stuff pantera riffs megadeath Metallica all that good stuff this Jackson will straight up rip it good my suggestion buy this guitar buy a decent amp and only thing I’d change is the strings just my preference to play with the DBs but it’s basically ready to rock ! 🤘🏼 Like he said best set up it’s ready to go !

Always liked the Kelly looks. I have owned a "94 Jackson U.S.A. Custom Shop Soloist ,best Guitar I've ever had or played, held, slept with, etc. Yes, I sold during a bad patch of luck in 2007. Of course I regret it. I have some decent Guitars now so I get by. My question is to anyone that has been playing a while. Is the Floyd Rose Special good enough w/ an Brass Block upgrade, compared to a Floyd Rose Original made in Germany ? My question is for Taylor and/or anyone that knows these Floyds well. Thank You, and keep Chugging'.

I’d personally go with the following upgrades for your Floyd setup: Stone Tone Sustain Block (it’s much lighter than the standard sustain blocks you’ll get and makes the guitar resonate so much better IMO) Schaller Sure Claw (replaces the standard spring claw that comes with Floyd Rose equipped guitars and makes spring claw adjustment much easier - you only need one hex key to make an adjustment. The device works with a worm gear system that makes adjustment much easier than the standard two screw setups. You will have to solder the guitar’s ground wire together with a provided ground wire and copper grounding strip once you install both of these upgrades (preferably with shrink wrap), but once you get it done, you’ll be able to make adjustments much easier). FU-Tone noiseless springs (preferably the red heavy tension ones, especially if you drop tune). I’ve installed these upgrades in my own Jackson KEXQ Kelly and it’s become my second favorite guitar behind my seven string (Jackson SL7Q Soloist). Throw in a Seymour Duncan SH-5 Custom in the bridge and Seymour Duncan SH-1N in the neck, then put the pickup selector in the middle position and you’ll have a guitar that chugs harder than an alcoholic German man at Oktoberfest 😆🤘

Depends on the situation. A lot of the time monitors, but sometimes my cab. Just depends on what I’m doing and how loud I want to be that particular day
